**** Men's NCAA Tournament ****

I don't know who he picked. I guarantee he won't pick every game correctly.

So....if Alford was the coach at, say, North Carolina and they were a #1 seed facing a #16 Liberty....you would pick Liberty because you hate Alford? Nice strategy.

BTW....I have won about 21 out of the last 23 against him.

Why don't you post your bracket so we can make fun of your incorrect picks? I'm sure you have perfect brackets every year.

Dumb post on your part.
Geezus, step away from the bottle dude. I was poking fun at you & ya blow a gasket? I haven't lost a game yet this year... oh wait, I haven't even played a game... I didn't fill out a bracket either. Go get your shine box...

Unfortunately Hawks blew a double digit lead that game.
15 point halftime lead I believe. Krafcisin (sp) was having a great game, but fouled out.

It's not like Wichita State was the better seed to justify giving them a home game...they weren't. The Hawks had a first round bye. No way should that have been allowed.

Yes, Lute was a great coach. But a lot of fans forget the many times he flamed out early in the tournament....at both Iowa and Arizona.

That might be enough to get him fired this off season. The old ways of Elite Charismatic coaches being able pull in a new roster of 1 and dones every year and just reload appear to be done. NIL is allowing some other teams to get the 5 star talent and Portal is allowing other teams to stock up on upperclassmen with talent.

You know when Calipari had to resort to stealing Fredrick from Iowa that things had changed.
he has a lifetime contract...lol

Ah....you are one of those who enjoy making fun of people who make an incorrect prediction, but never have the guts to go on record with your own. You also get all p*ssy when you get a little push back.

I figured as much.

Carry on, Mr. Internet Tough Guy! 🤪

I have watched a lot of NCAA games, and Iowa under Fran has been tough, but we had a lot of disappointments before he became coach. Lute had a Final Four, but several disappointments. I remember him telling Bobby Hansen to call a timeout when they didn't have any left, resulting in a deciding technical.
Agreed about the disappointments before Fran. It seems like Iowa basketball is just not made for the Big Stage…. 1990’s - Present Day. 😎

I also remember Iowa having to play Wichita State on their home freaking court.

How the F did that happen?
For decades, Duke and North Carolina played many of their NCAA tourney games within an hour or so of their campus. Their is still a little of that advantage given the top teams. Purdon't gets to play within driving distance it first few games this year.

Lute had a final four, but.? You serious?
I was lucky enough to come to Iowa City the year after Lute came, and left a year before. He is the best coach Iowa has had in my time watching Iowa BB, but he wet his drawers in the tourney more often than not.

I would sure take Lutes results in the ncaa now. Fran wets his drawers in every ncaa.

Yes, but the Hawks were the much higher seed that year...got the bye (48 team field). WSU was a 12 seed I believe...could be wrong.

What would everyone's feeling be if they gave coaches a challenge or two to look at something like that?
I know there can already be too many delays to check the clock, etc. Getting it right is of the utmost importance, but when is the cost too much?
They do it in the NBA and it works OK.

I would be OK with one challenge per coach, in the last 5 mins of the game. Teams should not have to lose like that in the tourney.

And they’ll still choke. Purdue does even less with more in the tournament than Iowa does.

Hawks made NCAA tournament Lutes last 5 years. Always competitive in tournament. Lost double digit leads in 79 and 81. 81 Iowa beat national champion Indiana twice. Iowa lost by one in sweet 16 Lutes final game. I wouldn't say he wet his draweres but there were some heartbreaking losses.
Fran has trailed by double digits at halftime each time iowa has reached second round .

Making the tourney was a bit more of a special thing in the early 80s, not unlike making a bowl game. The down side was teams still got a home court advantage. This was just before March Madness blew up and they did away with that

Also, Northwestern is one and done on the offensive end because they have to be so conscious of getting back on D. Not a lot of second chance opportunities, so have to knock down the first one.

Yep. Iowa and ISU have been fortunate a couple times to get to play in Minneapolis. 1986 they were both there.

What an ugly mess between the kittens and fau.
There's a middle ground of enjoyable basketball that's well played on both ends between what Iowa does and that garbage.

This effort on defense is what wins in the ncaa tournament.

See final 4 last year.

The ncaa doesn't have any standards for officiating so it turnes into a fouling contest.

Yep, Dutcher's SD state team is terrible on offense, great on defense. very hard to watch at times.

Northwestern has 20 more field goal attempts than FAU with more than 10 minutes left to play. That is insane. A lot of offense rebounds for northwestern, a lot of bad turnovers by FAU
