Michigan boosters offering $10M in NIL to the Top Quarterback in the 2025 class (Bryce Underwood)

someone needs to convince the Moon family to donate to the Swarm instead of the U of I
Just like what I mentioned about the other "celebrities", would that really be the best use of their millions, to pay high school players to come to Iowa to play football. I love Hawkeye sports as much as most reasonable people. But does anyone think its time for a reset on just where are priorities are? Just something to think about.....

Texas A&M has already experienced the bad investment phenomenon. In 2022 they brought in the #1 recruiting class and had a high "payroll," but wound up 5-7 and lost several guys to transfer. Last year they finished 7-6. They're now spending big bucks on Jimbo Fisher's buyout and on the players, but at least have a solid 7-2 season going and an outside shot at the playoff with one the SEC's easiest schedules.

College sports are so much fun now! ;)

Most of these kids aren't even worth that much, and they haven't even played a single snap. They could be total bums in college for all anyone knows. And without any kind of contract, he could transfer whenever he wanted and take some of that money with him.

College Football has turned into a farce.

This has nothing to do with ME. Take a freaking poll and see how many "fans" want to pay kids to play football out of their own pockets. This is ridiculous. WE already pay ALL the bills. Let the companies and Universities who have collected these millions pay players if its that important. And NO I don't care if it means we don't compete with OSU, Texas, Oregon, USC, Michigan either. We've been playing college football for how long 130-140 years. MAYBE 5 -10 have we ever REALLY competed for more the a close call every 10-15 years. This crap is only going to widen the gap, and the sooner the next teir teams realize that the better off they will be. Let the cash cows play each other twice a year like NFL teams do, and see how the bottom half like losing 4-5 games a year....
You’re right, it’s not about you, nor me, nor anyone in particular. It is about the market. In the organization’s evaluation, if they can raise more revenue, by better price yielding per demand, then they’ll do it. If they find they can’t, or it needs to be a more limited price yield, then they’ll go one of those directions.

I do think if this is the direction of college football, the University should be allowed to share the foundation donor list with the collective to ensure maximum exposure and efficiently market to known, and motivated, University donors that are not the “known benefactors.”

This is all so new. I’m certain there are folks in the CFB landscape performing ROIs on player outlays. Over time, there will be enough data to determine market pricing for player roles. The highest performers will always have demand on their side, but when you consider most players’ statistical chances of playing pro ball, it’s really not predominant.

I think they had checks bounce, no?

We saw a similar NIL deal last year. Tennessee’s QB, Nico Iamaleava, was the #2 overall prospect in the 2023 class. Iamaleava signed an NIL contract worth approximately $8 million with Spyre Sports, a collective that represents University of Tennessee athletes.

A 5-star, highly ranked QB like Iamaleava can potentially really change things. We have seen that with Tennessee this year; the Vols are 8-1 and currently ranked #7 in the country.

Iamaleava’s stats in 9 games:

144-221 (65%)

1,879 yards

11 TDs

4 INTs

He also has 215 yards and 1 TD rushing.

Tenn. will Probably lose at Georgia this week. If they play in the SEC title game, could well lose another one. Will 3 losses get them in the playoffs? Probably not. How much is a 10-3 season worth?

I just find it interesting how schools like Tennessee have such wealthy boosters who are willing to pay one player so much money.

I agree with you; is the "investment" worth it? To some, it appears to be.

Bryce Underwood, a Michigan native, is currently committed to LSU.

If Underwood flips to Michigan, the $10 million would be paid over the course of his college career.

Previously this season, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy made headlines when he said he would be willing to put forward $3 million of his own money yearly to land his alma mater a top-tier quarterback.

I agree. I'm as big a Chiefs fan as most, but watching the Hunt family (billionaires) pay THREE players over 110 MILLION $$ a year, and then have the freakin audacity to tell the Jackson county tax payers if we don't pay to rebuild or replace their stadium they're going to move. I say if I donate anything it would be to help pay for the moving trucks. All this money thats going to these celebs has warped their sense of reality and their self worth, and they've lost sight on the world around them.
San Diego Chiefs

And the highest rated QB in the B10 is Kurtis Rourke, the IU transfer from Ohio University.
Probably cost very little NIL money.
I suspect the entire Indiana team (that beat Michigan) cost less than what Michigan is offering one QB.

Side Note: Iowa has no QB on the list

Does anyone have any idea of the NIL package MacNamara recieve at Iowa?

I think I'm going to be sick.

Ohio State reportedly is paying $20M in NIL for this year's team. Imagine what Phil Knight could pay for Oregon's roster.

The only reason we know about OSU's $20 million is because they let it out. Just about guaranteed that Knight-Oregon, Texas, TAMU and a few others have dwarfed that $20 million amount - especially Oregon. All those schools are keeping their NIL $$$ under wraps. The Texas QBs alone (Ewers and Manning) are getting somewhere around $10 million together. It's just insane !!

Wish we had full disclosure across the board. I think what bothers many yet is the secrecy in terms of who is getting what and what types of budgets other schools have. It just leaves a lot to rumor and speculation and that is among people asked to be giving money.

That's why I laugh my butt off when people keep bringing up the $20 million OSU figure........that's chump - pocket money to people like Phil Knight and many Texas oil billionaires. I think many - myself included - would be shocked if we really knew the amount that some kids are getting that's being kept under wraps

Most likely they're going to end up in Johnson county or Wyandotte county Kansas. just on the Kansas side of the KC Metro. That would be the absolute BEST thing that could happen to the Jackson county Missouri tax payers. They would still only be 20 minutes away from the Chiefs and would no longer have to foot the bill for this nonsense.
