Michigan vs Texas Tech

This isn't all Tech D. Michigan has missed a slew of wide open threes. Now 0-13. Hit a modest average of those and they're right in this game
It was bad refereeing and coaching. Fire the AD and the coach!!!

It's funny watching Michigan fans talk about this game. This is basically the exact same thing that happened to us when we played them in the B10, but also add in a few contested 3s that always go in at the end of the shot clock (which is apparently a new experience for Wolverine fans)............funny how turnabout is fair play.

But really though all that stuff should stop happening to Iowa (along with the garbage weak-minded officiating that believes the Big Ten needs to be a football conference on the hard wood).

It would work out better for everyone in the long run.

Big 12 champs dismantling one of the Big 10's best teams. lolz.

Defending conferences is for fans of crap teams.

You think Duke fans were defending Virginia last year? Lolz

Think Kentucky fans give two sh*ts about how well Florida represents the SEC? Hardly. But you’ll see Missouri fans talking up their conference a lot. It’s all they’ve got.

Personally, I’m glad to see Michigan lose and look bad doing so because I don’t like Michigan or Michigan fans. If they never won another game and disbanded their program out of shame, I’d be pleased as punch.

Conference schmonference...

This is foolish.

Duke doesn't because they are Duke. Same with Kentucky. Neither of those teams are at risk of really being underseeded or left out completely. Any questions about their conference overall or their own resume will be overlooked...because they are who they are rather than they are part of a conference.

Michigan State is the only team in our conference that approaches that level. The rest need to endure the weak big ten argument and has an impact on the post season for everyone not named Michigan State for the most part.

The big ten overall was underseeded this year and the committee ensured the conference could not advance. They ensured our conference would knock each other out. You see that hapoenhap to other conferences?

We need to care not because we are weak bit because the impact on our team is so negative.

Texas Tech's head coach in Beard is the man. After last season I really thought they were destined to be a fringe NCAA team at best. Very good team defensively.

He has ties to Texas Tech and has shown he can win there....which isnt easy. I am curious if another school can offer more money and take him.

Tech is great. Beard is a magician. Curious to see if Tech can keep him in Lubbock.
He wanted to coach in Ames in the worst way. He interviewed when Prohm got hired and I bet the folks in Ames wished they had that hire to do over again. Back to back Elite 8's. I guess the Big 12 showed the B1G Wolverines what defense looks like. Who da thunk it. Michigan could never get into a comfortable rhythm.

Poor UNLV hired Beard for a few days...they have been garbage since then.

Not true.

Just basing my information off a report from a couple of seasons ago during a TT vs. ISU game. The court side reporter went through the whole process about how much Chris Beard wanted the ISU job. So you are saying it was fake news?

It's fake news. He may have wanted it (ISU bounced him out of the tournament the year he took the TT job) but I don't think he even interviewed.

Would you take Beard over Prohm or Otz over Prohm because I know that Pollard wanted Otz and the university president nixed the hire?

T-Tech was elite 8 last year as well.. Best thing happened to them is losing early in the Big12 tournament...

They’ll be a tough out the rest off the way...

Michigan had one of those shooting nights nobody wants to see in the tournament..

I got to see two of them this year, both the men and the women in the NCAA

I honestly think Beard is an absolutely elite coach. You think about what he's done as a D1 coach, it's crazy. One year at Little Rock, they go 30-5 and bounce a good Purdue team in the first round.

Next year he's at TT. Wins 18 games with a terrible roster. First full recruiting class includes Zaire Smith (1 and done, #194 composite rating) and Culver (#312 composite rating, going to be 2 and done). Then he goes 27 wins and 29 wins with two Elite 8s and has the chance for more this year.

People keep talking about him maybe going to Texas after next year since that's where his history is. I think he's a higher level coach than that. There are a LOT of rumors about Bill Self leaving KU. If I were KU I'd hire Beard in a heartbeat.

I think hindsight shows Beard is better than Prohm. I think I'd rather have Prohm than Otz. I'm glad Otz got the UNLV job, because that will tell us more about his ability to win at a higher level, and he is still available to coach ISU if Prohm moves on.

Agreed with the shooting night; however, do not discount how much the constant defensive pressure affected the Wolverines. Constant defensive pressure can affect a shooter even when they do get an open look. Just think about what a shot blocker does to shooters after they get a couple swatted away, and the much traveled Owens is a shot blocker.

Didnt ISU pass on Coach K before he was hired at Duke too?

And Brian Kelly for football?

Coach K passed on ISU, went to Duke instead. We settled for Johnny Orr.

ISU did pass on John Cooper. In fact, the AD told him he was hired, but the president overruled him. We got Donnie Duncan instead.

Beard has to be one of the most likely coaches to get a top job (if Tech isn't) over the next couple of years. Sure wish Fran had been able to attract Mooney when he declared himself a grad transfer from South Dakota. He is the type of player Iowa has been missing.

Interesting you mentioned Mooney the transfer from South Dakota. Tech had some players, but without him showing up to run the PG they arent a ranked team this year.

Put Mooney on Iowa's team this year and the offense is smooth. Not to mention he is about avg on defense too.

Prohm had him to visit ISU, but I am assuming he passed with Wigginton and Babb returning. Babb was apparently contemplating grad tramsferring and of course Wigginton had his sights on the NBA draft.

The few times I watched TT this year it didn’t really look to me like Mooney played much point. Looking at his stats if he ran point his asst/to ratio would be anything but “smooth”. May be wrong about that but I certainly believe calling him “about average on defense’ would be quite an understatement. He dogged his man on the defensive end and I believe ended up leading the Big 12 in steals. THAT is the end of the court his play stood out to me. He would have been a great addition at SG for the Hawkeyes but pg not do much.

Tech is losing basically their entire roster. Iowa will be favored in that one.

Looking at their roster it appears you're not as informed as you think you are. They have lots of players coming back and I'm sure that their coach is a lot more receptive to transfers and grad transfers then Fran is. It should be a whale of a game if we meet. Iowa will be the underdog!

Such nonsense.

You defending the honor of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Purdue etc. is freaking ridiculous.

I root for Iowa. If the other 13 B1G teams were horrible, better for Iowa. There is not "weak Big Ten" conspiracy and even if there were, WGAF as long as Iowa is good.

I know it’s sarcasm but how in the hell does Larry Scirotto get this far in the tournament? That guy is one of the worst officials in college BB. That’s not saying much for the guys that didn’t even get this far.

I’m usually tough on the Big12 but I have to give them props with Tech over Michigan. Michigan has been a tough out in tourney and beat a bunch of good teams this year. Good work.

Beard has been in West Texas for 15+ years of his career. He is divorced and his children are in West Texas. Tech will give him a nice raise and extension. I would expect UT to reach out if Smart is gone, because Beard is a UT alum. I expect him to stay in Lubbock.

Mooney is a combo guard, who can play either position well. He is just a tough, all-round guard who can do whatever his team needs to win on both ends of the court. He is also a team leader, who makes his teammates better. Not sure if Fran even gave him a second thought, but I thought he helped kick Iowa's butt when we played South Dakota a couple of years ago.
