What could be two of the better B1G teams this year are set to go tonight against what could be VERY tough opponents. Who do you think wins these matchups?

Personally, I'll be rooting for our fellow B1G peers, but my smart money says Michigan squeaks one out, and Minnesota loses a tough game that will look worse score wise than it actually was.

I'll be rooting for our B1G brothers too. Utah is a tough place to play, but I think Michigan has the talent to squeak it out. They could also get killed, you never really know what you're going to get with Utah, and I don't know much about their squad this year.

TCU is really good. I'm just hoping Minny doesn't get embarrassed.

Cheering for B1G. The conference gets enough crap from the media, would be nice to be able to win so the media can make excuses...

Minnesota will make this game close game I think. A clock eating ground game is the best antidote to an opponent which runs a fast paced offense. Wear them down on offense - Liedner will need to make a few plays in this game to convert on 3rd down. Throw in a couple key defensive TOs and the Gophers have a shot to pull this one out at home.

Not as confident about Michigan. They have a lot of question marks on offense. If Michigan gets down early to the pass-happy Utes, say 9-10 points, I think they are doomed.

I think Big Ten will be 0-2 tonight. Utah at home will be tough to beat.

TCU v. Minnesota won't be close. TCU favored by something like 17 now.

I'll pull for MInnesota to upset TCU. What a win that would be for the Gophers and the Big Ten. TCU's shot at the playoffs would likely be over before it began. And should Iowa beat Minny later in the season, such a win would look even better alongside Floyd.

I'm not so sure about Michigan. I get the Big Ten thing and, in general, I want conference teams to win. But Harbaugh's team may be the exception.

At any rate, it should be an interesting way to get things going.

And don't forget that tomorrow night the nation's No. 5 team, Michigan State, hits the road to face PJ Fleck & Co. at Western Michigan. That the Spartans agreed to play this game on the road is surprising to me.

Financial sense

MSU’s willingness to play at WMU this season (and Central Michigan in 2012) is noble. Michigan and Notre Dame will probably never do it. But this wasn’t a completely altruistic offering from MSU athletic director Mark Hollis. It was part of a three-for-one contract with the Broncos, in which WMU gets one home game and MSU gets three, paying barely more than $1 million in total guarantees to WMU for its three visits to East Lansing.

Four separate games against WMU in East Lansing these days would run MSU a tab of about $4 million. By scheduling the series so far out in 2009 and agreeing to play once at WMU, MSU saved about $3 million. To put that in perspective, that savings nearly covers the cost of having Mark Dantonio as MSU’s coach for an entire year and does cover the salaries of his entire staff.

For some reason I think Michigan gets it's ass kicked tonight. I'm leery of any B10 team going out west in the non-conference.

I also have a hard time believing Minnesota can keep up against TCU.

Minnesota to cover but lose and Michigan, led by a good game by Rudock, wins a close one. I think Michigan will return to a top 25 program this year and that JR will have a good season.

I really don't understand how Michigan is favored tonight. Utah returns 14 starters and over 60 letterman from a team that went to Michigan and kicked their butt last year.

ugh I dont know if I can root for Gophers and Michigan but I understand rooting for Big Ten in out of conference. That said, my rooting interest will have no influence on these games and I think both Big Ten teams get killed. TCU is a great team and will be way too much for Minnesota to handle. I just think Michigan wont be able to go out west and take on a good team like Utah. Hope I am wrong.

+1 eff those 2 teams. Although b1g winning would be nice. Goofers wouldn't be rooting for us, that's for sure.

I will grant you that Minnesota would have much better odds if Maxx Williams and David Cobb were still playing but TCU will be in a dog fight if they waltz into MPLS holding their pre-season press clippings.

maybe Gopher Rube or some other Gopher fan can give us a better sense of what the MN fans are expecting. I'm wondering if Berkeley Edwards shares some of the load tonight.

lol the utes are anything but pass happy. they are run happy happy team.they only averaged about 200 yards a game passing the utah rb ran for almost 1600 yards. they play really good defense lead the nation in sacks and almost everybody is back. special teams are really good. best punter and kicker in the country. thats how they beat michigan last year. michigan couldnt score and utah scored on special teams. they won 26-10

studed, you're right. I believe I was thinking of BYU when I wrote that.

Michigan is a 6 pt dog and Minnesota is a 17 pt dog at home.
No upsets here. Just two big ten teams getting taken to the woodshed on National TV.
Wisky will be next.
To the poster who stated Michigan is going to be one of the better teams
I'll I have to say is Rudock is their starting QB. LOL.

Ok that makes more sense. I thought I heard they were favored.

Yep, I read a preview today...Utah averaged in the 190's for both rushing and passing last year. Right where you want to be (50/50) if you ask me.

ESPN had some guy reporting from Utah around noon today saying that Utah is touting tonight's game as the biggest home game for Utah EVER! That's a pretty lousy home game history.

Is the Pac 12 still using Pac 12 officials for these interconference games? They have been really bad in the past ala Wisconsin at Arizona State

HEY MINNESOTA.

RUN THE BALL!!!

Your QB looks like he is shot putting and your lineman have a huge size advantage.

I'm thinking TcU is gonna be in trouble when they face a team with a good D like Minnesota but a team that actually has a offense to go with it

Ohio State would have their way with this TcU team as of tonight

Yea. Color me unimpressed with the #2 team in the country... a good team but not #2 in this young season

Well at least TCU is looking like they're about to pull away. I don't want to have to see the aftermath of a Minnesota upset.

No, I do not want the Gophers to win. They don't need any momentum.

Minnesota has been very impressive on D, and opportunistic with turnovers and missed FGs. Better than I expected for sure. Did you hear the announcer say that was the first home game sell-out for MN in 20 years?

Wow... Minnesota punt returner fair catches on their 3 yard line..... thought we were the only team making moves like that.

That'll earn a seat on the bench!

And there's the safety. Always a good idea to have your tank of a shot putting QB drop straight back in his own end zone. Is GD in Minnesota tonight?

TCU would make Iowa's defense look like a bunch of plodders. I'd predict about a 35 point margin of victory.

TCU Minnesota was an ugly game. Neither side looked very good but it is the first game of the year and TCU was missing several starters due to injury. There was also some bad officiating in this game going both ways. Actually in a few games last night the refs were pretty bad. TCU could have put that game away multiple times but kept shooting itself in the foot with overthrows, penalties etc. They don't look like number 2 team to me. I would say top 15 definitely.

Based on one game, their first game (TCU)? Maybe a lesser team loses that first game on the road.

Nailed it....

In David's attempt to discredit the Gophers, he conveniently points to TCU having some players out with injuries but failed to mention Minnesota had 3 starters out and a 4th playing out of position on a surgically repaired knee.

As far as shooting in foot, Minnesota also fumbled in the end zone resulting in a touchback. This was a solid performance by a top 5 team in the nation against a top tier Big 10 team. When Minnesota gets their offensive line back to health, they'll be a tough out for anyone.
