Minnesota swept by South Dakota and SDSU. Pitinos response?

Looked it up on wiki, and they have only made 12 NCAA tourney appearances in the history of the program (Iowa has 24), and 4 of them were vacated by sanctions.

They've only won one tourney game since the vacated 1997 Final Four run.

That is freaking insane. I almost feel bad for them. Almost.

Those are the kind of losses you suffer in the first year of your tenure when taking over a down program. USD and SDSt. aren't bad teams, but you should expect to beat them on your floor. I would think the ice would be getting rather thin for Junior. Didn't they just give him an extension (till 2021!) to keep him away from Alabama? Big Mistake! Maybe he should resort to his Daddy's "booster squad."

Junior basically got a major job because he is junior. In his defense, Minny hasn't been good in BB without cheating very often. With Clem anything seemed OK, as long as they won. B1G is a very tough league to have much success at a school that isn't a big name BB program. Iowa has had success in the past, but Fran has done a great job of putting them back in the conversation, after almost a decade of not being good.

His contract runs through 2021 (still long) and he is making 1.6 million per year.

Compare that to 1.8 million for McCaffery.

Junior Pitino gives nepotism a bad name. There was no
way that he was qualified to coach a Big Ten team.
Bobby Knight did the same thing to his son. Eventually
his son got fired at Texas Tech and no longer coaches.

Coach Fran of Iowa paid his dues at Siena and earned
an opportunity to come to Iowa City. There is no substitute
for experience.

On TV, Joey King was being interviewed and he said it was tough playing these types of teams because them playing Minnesota was their Super Bowl

I can't believe a player would say that when video cameras are rolling; fans on message boards saying it is one thing; but for a player to say it where it makes the 6 o'clock sports segment? Wow.

Ouchie!
minny should be much better than that. Just the twin cities area alone produces enough prospects to keep them respectable.
