******UNI vs Iowa Game Thread******

Didn't watch the game and just looked at the box score...was Kylie as bad as the stats show???

I’m not sure anyone played particularly great outside McCabe and HS and they strangely went away from her for stretches. Hannah should shoot 15 times a game.

Didn’t see the game but looked like in the highlights at the end Stuelke was at the 5 when she hit that bucket to put us up 87-83. Still her best position.

Anything to read into AJ Ediger getting minutes tonight? Must be making a case in practice to get some opportunities.

*I'm rooting for any player at 5 that can shut down driving guards.

Think it was more that O'Grady needed a breather, Heiden already had 2 quick fouls, and we were up ~15 so Jan thought why the hell not.
I think that seems the likely case, but doesn't explain Heiden not playing in the second half. Obviously Jensen should not have been comfortable at any point in that game.

I still think it's a little curious.

Didn't watch the game, listened on the radio here and there. I just read through the game thread, seeing all the opinions about this Iowa team is bad and sputtered in the game. Then I saw Iowa scored 92 points.

How has uni lost 6 times now. That’s a rock solid team.
To their credit, UNI has played a difficult schedule with these losses:

1 - Creighton
2 - at SDSU (as discussed elsewhere, SDSU is really good)
3 - Ball State (the one bad loss but the game they lost Grace B. (they’re second best player and best big) in 2nd quarter and couldn’t adapt / adjust mid-game)
4 - Auburn by 1 point, neutral
5 - Kansas by 3 points, neutral
6 - at Iowa by 6 points.

Wins versus major conference opponents in ISU and Pitt.

They have a good shot at the MVC automatic NCAA tournament bid I believe.

This is truth. UNI is a pretty good team. Credit to them for making this contest a close battle.

Hawkeye fans have been pretty spoiled over the last 4 years. Better start to accept a different level of play.

Yup, I believe that is why many of us feel the 26 and 27 recruiting classes are going to give a barometer of what to realistically expect during Jan’s tenure.

This is true of course, but it’s also indicative of how far we are away of being a legitimate top 3 seed right now.

Can't understand the level of negativity here from some of you. We had a lot of player turnover and also coaching turnover. They have things to work on, but I believe they are moving in the right direction. Enjoy the positives!

Yes, I agree per se and I’m pretty famous or infamous regardless of how you see it, because I’m “positive” of the players and hostile towards angry fans, but….

This team was further along 5 games ago. UNI is decent, but not better than Drake, Kansas, BYU, etc.

We did not play well and the Truth is still the Truth. We’ll get better I believe but that was a poor game.

UNI got red hot. As stated earlier. We are prone to turnovers when pressured. Time together in game situations will help that hopefully

No one is at any level

Iowa is falling into a bad habit of blowing big leads in the second half
by allowing a single player to go off on a scoring binge. Last week it was a Michigan State guard scoring 13 in the 4th quarter and last night it was UNI's McDermott scoring 17 in the second half. Jan has to recognize this earlier and adjust her defense accordingly.

Of course, though, it would seem every coach knows that and yet……🤷‍♂️

I mean Laube had to have had double figures

The Kylie answer is simple, she plays pretty solid man to man defense. Now, the invite thing is that she has to give more on offense (no turnovers, move the ball, find one thing she can do really well). Also, she needs to maybe be in with some of the other freshman to help bring leadership but let them run the show. Especially Guyton, Stremlow or Maligini (sp?)

I do think it's odd why Ava Heiden doesn't play more. She looks really good and will be a star in the future.

Did Ediger play as a shot to Wettering for leaving? That's litetally all I can think of.

I very much doubt that. She didn't have the talent to get a lot of minutes and her moving on opened up another scholarship spot.

Incidentally Ball St is not a bad loss. They’ve lost to South Dakota State, #16 North Carolina in Chapel Hill a Columbia team that will likely get a a tourney invite & then got smoked by tOSU.
