Mizzou vs. NCST

The 6-0 lead after the initial scramble (and pretty questionable TD call, IMO) obviously helped Renda's cause, but he did dominate. I think Miklus pretty much cashed in his chips after he gave up the big lead. I'd expect a re-match to be a lot closer, but no doubt Renda won handily. Should help Sammy move up a little in the rankings, I'd guess.

Gwiazdowski up 14-1 with RT. Game over.

VaTech/NcState/Mizzu for PSU? VaTech? Leaving NcState or Mizzu for Iowa.

Dang -- Mizzou has nothing at 285. That should be 6 for Sam if they ever meet.
Gwiz took care of business for sure. TF in 2nd period with plenty of time to spare. Thought he had him decked with that 1st takedown to his back.

If I'm Missouri's coaching staff, I'm wondering what Cox was thinking. Huge favorite over McDonald and pretty much sleepwalks his way to a decision. That should have been 4 team points at a minimum for Mizzou.

So do we host NC St now most likely? Seems to be a less intriguing dual than Mizzou and without the same opportunities for our guys to improve their seeds come NCAAs or for payback from last year.

Is Miklus hurt? He broke early. Got I think 3 stall calls on him on bottom.

If VaTech didn't inexplicably lose to Iowa state they'd easily be top non-b10 team. But they wrestled penn state earlier 21-15 iirc.

True. NC State or VA Tech would certainly be an opportunity for big Sam to make a statement.

McDonald was a big boy!

Sam has been getting better and better but he is not making a statement vs Gwiz.

I think Va Tech is easily the most intriguing out of the 4 options. A ton of toss up matches and the Iowa VT history. Mizzu was but they laid an egg and Milkus was one of the more intriguing matchups now he looks to be a shell of himself.

I know they were missing a few guys, but I don't want to get a team that lost to Iowa State. Bring on Missouri or North Carolina State.

Should be VTech. They crushed ISU early in the year and only lost the 2nd time because brascetta and epperly didn't wrestle. They are probably the most complete dual team in the country. They don't have a clear # 1 at any weight, but they really don't have a "hole" at any weight, and I don't think any other DI team can say that.

Miklus hurt his ankle in practice prior to the OkSt match and hasn't been the same since. Skipped several duals but still looked awful today. He's never had a problem on bottom before but has been ridden like a dog by Boyd and now Renda. He looked great to start the year but now I can't see him doing much at NCAAs unless he has a miraculous recovery...

I could see Iowa losing to VT actually. Tough matchup if they are healthy

Spooner,

I defined what I meant by complete in the very next sentence. They truly don't have a hole in their lineup. Other than 133, everyone is ranked top 20 and Gustafson is right there. I didn't say they were the best dual team, but if everyone put out their top lineup they are right there with PSU, Iowa and OkState.

I am not sure why you would rather see NCState. They already saw them at Midlands and Every match would have a clear favorite:
125: Gilman heavily favored
133: Clark heavily favored
141: Jack heavily favored
149: Sorenson heavily favored
157: Gant heavily favored
165: Roshkopp heavily favored
174: Meyer heavily favored
184: Brooks a slight favorite
197: Burak heavily favored
285: Gwiz heavily favored

Missouri would have a few more intriguing matches but still:
125: Gilman clear favorite
133: Clark heavily favored
141: Manley slight favorite although I would pick Grothus.
149: toss up
157: toss up
165: Lewis heavily favored
174: toss up
184: toss up
197: cox favored
285: Stoll heavily favored

at best I could see Missouri winning 5 matches but losing on tiebreaker.

Now VTech on the other hand:

125: toss up
133: Clark heavily favored
141: Chisko favored
149: Sorenson solid favorite
157: Brascetta heavily favored
165: McFadden solid favorite
174: toss up
184: Brooks a very slight favorite
197. Burak a solid favorite
285. Walz a solid favorite.

If Dance were to beat Gilman(i would pick Gilman) they should most likely win the dual!

I want VTech now. They are favored in 6 out of 10 vs us (on paper) and that doesn't sit well with me. The way I look at this 'national dual' is an opportunity to compete against a high quality opponent and a win vs them would help us out tremendously at NCAA (seedings).

The more I think about it, the more I think we'll get NCST. Reason being; Missouri already wrestled tOSU and I dont think the NWCA will make them do it again. My gut tells me PSU vs Okie State, Iowa vs NCST, Missouri vs Michigan, and VTech vs tOSU. I still hope we get VTech though.

We've seen NC State at Midlands, not head to head for all weights of course, but I'd rather see VT or Mizzou. Any of the 3 would be a nice dual from a competitive standpoint.

Gotta have more hope than that! Sure, Gwiz is a stud, but I wouldn't count Sam out entirely. Especially in Carver.

At this point it's hard to put anyone on Gwiz's level except for maybe Snyder.

Although, when was the last time a 2x champ at HWT won their third title as a senior? Perhaps Gwiz goes the way of Nelson and Mocco. I wouldn't mind seeing Sammy be the one to stop him at NCAAs.

Feb. 14th
Maybe should have clarified a bit more. An article I read said the selections were to be made Feb. 14th, what I didn't realize is that is TODAY! Brain fart. Not sure if they'll settle it before the night is out or not. Perhaps.

Are they wrestling in somebody's basement? My God those fans are right on top of the mat! (I think I'd try to get back a bit when the Big Boys start coming up! Ha!)
They are wrestling at a State Fairgounds Building until they finish renovating Reynolds Coliseum on campus.
