**MLS 2021, CONCACAF Champions League, US Open Cup, etc.: Marion, IA native/Drake alum is MLSter Irrelevant of 2021 Draft**

Wow, TWO MLS games on network television this weekend, including Chicharito vs Vela in El Trafico on Saturday night FOX prime time (which I believe is a first for a regular season game) and the Sounders-Timbers Derby on ABC on Sunday afternoon:

A THIRD: Miami Internacional vs Atlanta United on ABC as part of the first half of what will be a doubleheader. Second best MLS Opening Day ratings, only bested by David Beckham and the champion LA Galaxy opening at a sold out Qwest Field against the Open Cup Champion Sounders.

Oh my gosh, I didn't remember this thread. I'll delete my other.

I did say I'm pumped for the Sounders. Another 3 points on the road over the Timbers.

Austin FC playing tough and holding on to a 1-0 lead over SKC.

Also, what a freaking bummer about the Champions League.

5 MLS teams in the Quarterfinals and they all disappear except Philly who played Atlanta. I thought Columbus deserved more in the first leg and sucked in Mexico. Looks like another year without an MLS team in the Club World Cup.

KC steal it with two late goals. And yes, no MLS teams in the Champions League really built up over the offseason. Super quiet from MLS (apart from Pato), on the signings. Probably pandemic related. But Mexican teams like Club America look stronger than last year.

What does a win feel like? Chicago hasn't won in 7 months

I'm still shocked that we are winning as much as we have with the formation change and roster issues (Nico in and out being hurt, no Jordan Morris). Guys like Christian Roldan, who I wasn't sure about his role on the USMNT, are playing great.

For Chicago, I am not sure what to say... it has been rough.

IMO, Heitz and Wicky have under-estimated the caliber of player it takes to win in MLS. The players acquired in the off-season are just not up to par. That and we have dead weight like Calvo (who would be fine at defensive mid, but is not a center back). We have NO true central play-makers. The silver lining is that the 17 year old looked MLS-ready yesterday. Time to cut our losses with some of these guys and let the youth movement begin. There's no reason Chicago shouldn't be like an FC Dallas model. In the 2010 WC, like half the roster came through our youth team or was drafted by us. Just very, very frustrating.

Inter Miami hit hard with penalties for breaking rules in signing Blaise Matuidi. Probably worth it for their brand as a new club, but $2 million + other penalties isn’t a small price...

Christian Fuchs, former Austria captain and key cog in Leicester City’s title winning year, is joining Charlotte FC after starting late in the year this season for the Foxes.

F*** ties in soccer and also Lewandowski. Ties in soccer need to die a fiery f***ing death and burn in hell for the centuries of suffering they've put sports fans through.

You're welcome. Public service announcement served.....

It's been forever but Philly down 1-0 in Mexico City right now off a deflection.

Philly mid lost a tooth with a swing of the arm. No look on VAR.

Is this the main MLS thread?

Seattle pulls a rabbit out with a goal in the 88th and 89th to win at Columbus 2-1. This has been a crazy year for Seattle. I honestly wonder how many games the "starters" have actually played together. I'm guessing less than 3.

Okay, the last one I watched was live on the sideline in Chicago in 2017, but this year’s MLS EA Skills Challenge vs Liga MX was highly entertaining. After the fifth and final challenge, they were all tied at 25-25 so it came down to a crossbar challenge from the center circle. After winning on the last kick the last time against Athletico Madrid, they lose on the last kick against Liga MX on the tie-breaker. A couple highlights…

Oh, and the Fire finally won an away game

Oh my gosh... what a pissy game for Seattle. Two goals gifted to Portland... literally gifted...

Seattle hit the post 3 or 4 times in the 2nd half. Forced 2 full extension dive saves. Had 2 more headers glance past the post.

Won 7 of the 11 offensive corners. Dominated play after giving up the goal.

Ugh...

Go USA

Weird thing is that the All Star game ratings were awful on FS1

I don't think people care about All-Star games anymore but this was an actual game. It was not 3v3 NHL game, an NBA game that was over 150 points, a two hand touch NFL game where the lines don't even move or a baseball game where pitchers change every inning.

It was intense ans physical. Loved it.

People have talked about it being an FS1 thing. I know they’re a solid third behind ESPN and NBCSN. This seems to back that up…

I’d imagine they move up in viewership when NBCSN goes off.

Big win for Sounders and MLS!

And tonight I am pissed. Up 1-0, dominating the game... easily could have been 3-0 but settled for 1.

Give up a good goal to draw then a STUPID PK and an even worse give away to go down 3-1. So angry...
What do you guys think of the Leagues Cup expanding to every team and interrupting the season for a month of MLS vs Liga MX? A couple Champions League spots up for grabs with it too. I’m not a fan. I think this will hurt the US Open Cup. I think it was fine the way it was, like our own mini Europa League. But of course this is a big money grab.

Seems to me North American Soccer is headed to a consolidation. Thats a lot of teams though.

I'm okay with it. Another chance for MLS teams to compete with Liga MX.

Wish we gave more attention to the CCL.
