If you take the time to read the details of the allegations, I do not for a second believe that he assaulted anyone.
I firmly believe that if you accuse someone of sexual assault and it is proven untrue, in other words, fabricated, that person should be subject to criminal and civil penalties. I am sure a lot of actual sexual assault goes unreported, but a certain percentage is also fabricated to cover ones tracks for any number of reasons. Certainly the former outnumbers the latter but any of either is unacceptable.
Listen to the allegations. They don't add up. I wont detail all the holes here but there are plenty of reasons to doubt her story.
I also know, that if I was a famous man, that lots of women wanted to have sex with, Id have a vasectomy and video taped, saved to the cloud, statements and video of the act for my records. Too many out there looking for a payday and dont give 2 shits about someones reputation. Especially if they can negotiate a settlement and an NDA.
He should alos get to face his accuser. I get the anonymity part for initial discussions but once these allegations are threatening the man professionally, he should get to depose her on the record. If these allegations are on the record for his confirmation hearing, the Republicans should get to talk to her.

I find Hegseth's accuser to lack credibility. I don't think he would have accepted the nomination had he felt that he couldn't defend himself. This is a guy that is media savvy. He could easily have saved himself all this trouble by simply passing on the selection. Yet he didn't. I have reviewed the details of the evening in question and there are many holes in her story.
I know what you do for a living. I won't even enter an exam room to do a female exam without a chaperone. I won't take my kids sitter home myself. I know a number of professionals in our field that have had their careers ruined by allegations. Some are certainly true to be sure. But I suspect not all are.
BUT, you and I, if we even for a second, arent hypervigilant, we risk losing our career. All at the hands of a she said. These exist my friend. Sorry to say. I won't put myself in that situation because it happens. Hegseth compromised himself here clearly in a moment of intoxication. But it doesnt make him guilty just because someone says he is.
She wasnt visibly intoxicated. He was. They walked to his room, on video, arm in arm. She left and didnt report the assault for days. She refused to do a pretextual phone call to him for the police to get him on record and catch him admitting it. The investigation found that charges were not warranted. On and on....
Keep an open mind my friend. Youd want the same if you were in a similar situation by a patient. Presumption of innocence that seem to be lacking here because he's a Republican.

I think her story still makes sense. Mainly because she went to the nurse and got a rape kit. It’s an incredibly difficult thing for a woman to process a rape. And it doesn’t all happen instantly. The shame. Thinking it’s your fault and the violation to your mind and body is a complete mind screw. Similar to the kids who repress being molested. Then after that the police come in and often treat you as the perpetrator.
