There are four spots on Mt Rushmore.
I would nominate Chuck Long and Ronnie Lester although there are others who deserve consideration as well.

Gable deserves more like a Washington Monument of his own as peerless among Iowa coaches. It just wouldn't be fair to put 3 other coaches as his equal.

I see your point, and it's valid on face value, but I also think it's hard to compare winning championships in the sport of wrestling to winning championships in the sport of football ...especially at a school like Iowa.
With that said, I think for what he did taking Iowa from national doormat to conference bully, you can put Hayden on the same Monument as Gable...and quite honestly, if Kirk has one or two more 'special' seasons before he retires he could also be worthy.
Howard Jones and Forest E were the 2 best football coaches Iowa ever had. No doubt about it.
Evy won 2 more Rose Bowls than the rest of the coaches put together. If an Iowa Football coach is on Mt. Rushmore it has to be Evy. Basketball wise, Bucky O'Conner got us to back to back final fours so he deserves consideration. As much as I love Megan, and I do, her team hasn't made any waves nationally. If she takes this team to the FInal Four, she will get my vote. We will never see the likes of her again.
It's not Howard Jones' fault he didn't win the Rose Bowl. He led Iowa to a win vs Knute Rockne's Fighting Irish and went undefeated for 2 straight seasons.
Let's make this Mt. Rushmore for athletes only. Athletes are only here for a few short years but coaches can have a much larger body of work. If this Mt. Rushmore is for athletes only, then Megan is definitely there.

We are not talking about who had the best team mates. Megan's team just won the Big Ten Tournament and a Sweet Sixteen spot, but that doesn't matter and I still won't matter if they win the NC. What matters is the performance and the standards that Megan set leading the nation in scoring 2 years in a row, being named POY twice, being named NPOY and her setting all those scoring records. How well her coaches performed on the side lines or in recruiting other teammates isn't on Megan. The fact that she is one of a kind, makes her the right one to be enshrined.

It's also not Jones' fault that the Big Ten didn't allow teams to go to bowl games back then. (though he would go on to be one of the most successful coaches to coach in the Rose Bowl posting a 5-0 record, best among coaches who have never lost in the game..........so Iowa has that to look back on with regret which is nice........)
Truthfully, I don't know but did Kinnick ever win a national championship? Megan is the best women's basketball player to ever play in Iowa. Right now she's probably the best basketball player, playing ball in Iowa City right now. She might win the National Player of the year and not make the final four. She deservers a statue but it will take 20 years before they do it...At least retire her number!
That is a fair question, Not his results necessarily but his actions probably keep him off the mountain.
Uh, no. She's a great player...probably the greatest WBB player to ever play for the Hawks. But, no.
