A few comments...

Iowa's win last night was impressive for the defense, the effort, the rebounding and a display of depth.

Not to downgrade anyone's effort but MG was out half the game, Woodie was Woodie, and Uthoff was off a bit. And yet, Iowa displayed next year's potential...Williams, Baer, Jok, Uhl, etc...

The win, "without" the seniors on all cylinders...at MSU...well, next year should be fun and interesting as the talent plays out at different positions.

Baer's hustle is infecting the team, perhaps. They are playing with a different attitude, which Izzo also noted...and the announcers...

I agree that Baer's play is infectious in terms of effort. I think his teammates also respect how he plays within himself, doesn't take bad shots, and hustles like mad. It's as if they see him play smart (pass on a questionable shot, not make a risky pass, etc.), and it reminds them to do what they do and stay within themselves as well.

He is one of those non-flashy guys who contributes well beyond his stats...and works to avoid dumb plays i.e. missed assignments, failure to block out, failure to help out on defense, shooting with no one to rebound, etc. that are harmful to team performance...yet don't flash out statistically on the stat sheet after the game. Very valuable to have a competent, hustling, smart, content player coming off the bench...and more than one of them.

Leadership? Wouldn't that freaking beat the band if down the road Baer is a guy who helps run the team. The weird thing is I can imagine it happening.

Teams with solid leaders are difficult to beat...guys who give effort, are unafraid to take the difficult shots, excel after a miss or turnover, step up to take the blame, offer praise to others, get into another player's face if needed...

Iowa seems to be playing together...and efficiently...so that a win is available if key players are off...MG, Uthoff for example last night...
