Just curious as to whether this happened to other folks. I think it happened while he waiting to go through security to get into the stadium.

Really sorry your father-in-law had this bad experience. With the way people were jammed together going through security, I can understand how easily it could happen. I have not heard about this happening to anyone else. What gate did he go through? We had quite a wait going into Gate E, one of the main Iowa sections.

Man, I really hate people. Still doesn't justify it, and I hate when people say "you're asking for it to be stolen" but this is why I don't keep my wallet in my back pocket anymore.

I would just assume I lost it if this ever happened to me. For all I know I've had lots of cell phones and credit cards stolen over the years.

I'm suprised pick pocketing is still a thing. There's just no reason to carry a good amount of cash anymore

Cash? Pick-pocketing will always be a thing in a world where your identity is much much more valuable than cash.

While we were tailgating after the game, one of my daughters realized she had lost her cell phone. We called the number several times and eventually someone answered. It was the Rose Bowl security and someone had turned the phone into them. Thank goodness for honest folks and since we were in an Iowa section (17) I am guessing it was an Iowa fan.

Left mine in cab coming home from the Rose Bowl. Pulled out my wallet to pay the fare and set it on the dashboard. I even told myself not to leave it, before realizing I forgot it when I got back to where we were staying. Called the phone and cabby answered. He returned it 15 minutes later and I gave him a little more money for the gesture. Thank goodness I realized it was in the cab about 5 minutes after we were dropped off.

While pathetic, this theft was a crime of opportunity, especially in crowded venues it should be expected. I bet he knew better and it won't happen again......sorry, some tough love.

They used his credit card at Target and spent $1200, so yeah, it was definitely theft.

And we came in through Gate C I think.

My brother was drugged and had a kidney removed. Woke up in a van next to where the Rose Parade ended about 8pm on Friday night. Only thing with him in the van was a #5 Stanford jersey

There is a strong possibility that it was me :) As we were walking to our bus, my sis-in-law found a phone on the ground in one of the parking lots and handed it to me. I turned the cell phone into security as we were walking to our bus. Might explain the delay in someone answering. Small world.

How does he know he didn't just lose it? Didn't really seem like a highcrime crowd. And all that jostling to get into the stadium seems custom made for an old guy to lose his wallet.

Cardsnhawks, if it was you- many, many thanks! And if it was someone else's phone, I thank you for them. Hawkeye fans are the greatest!

He said later in the thread they ran up a $1200 charge at Target. Definitely theft.

Or dropped and picked up by an unscrupulous scalper/passerby.

He remembers a woman stopping suddenly in front of him while he was in line and someone behind him bumping into him. He's pretty sure he was set-up.

Not to me, that would suck, along with those guys that bought completely fake tickets.
