My reasons Iowa will lose to Cincy

Sorry, I know no one wants to hear it but here is why the Bearcats will win pretty easily.

1. Iowa does not do well against adversity and Cincy will give it to you before the opening tip!
2. Their team is beefy, I mean thick, strong, athletic, beefy. We struggle against that.
3. Fran seems to think when another team makes a run he can't call timeout until Iowa is at least 10+ points behind. We don't recover from this.
4. Back to point 2. Beefy will mean Jordan B. gets no open looks, he may fire up a few from 3 to 4 steps behind the 3 point line. We will get called for numerous touch fouls as well as at least two illegal screens.
5. Tyler C. and others can scream after a made basket but at the end of the day we just aren't "badass" enough to hang with Cincy. Fran of course will blame the referees.
You're right, no one cares what you think.

I haven't seen a bracket anywhere by the pundits with Iowa selected. I see quite a few other upsets picked like Yale over LSU and Northeastern winning a few games but literally 0 brackets picking Iowa. Interesting that nobody is giving Iowa a shot (at least in the media).

The more I look at this matchup, the more I think it favors Iowa.

And Iowa has far and away the most winnable #10/#2 matchup in the field.

Going inside will require us to take care of the ball - Cook and Garza seem to really struggle with this.
Going inside = drawing fouls, free throws, victory!

Falling in love with the three = fingers crossed Moss will be on, Bohannon makes threes early, Weiskamp is on? All this is basketball uncertainty .

Let’s work the ball low and take control of this one with the three headed monster Garzookriener!

Could use Pemsl in this type of game. When Kriener shows up he is a tough guard. Agree that the bigs need to get in the paint and commit to establishing themselves vs. shooting 3's. I am sure they will throw the kitchen sink at Cook.

Regardless of the outcome Friday. Sure beats the hell out of filling out a bracket sans Iowa!!

Let’s go kick some Bearcat ass!!!

I have a feeling that Ryan could play a big role here.

All very valid points. I think Iowa does more things poorly, than they do things well. IF we get shooting the ball we MAY win. I don't like my chances of winning based on an "IF". But what we WILL do is struggle rebounding, and struggle with any sort of defense. I love watching these kids play, but I just don't see them pulling out the W when there are so many things they do poorly.

Cincy likes to play a relatively slow 1/2 court game. They have a good 1/2 court D. We struggle in those types of games. We need to press and run & gun from the opening tip. That's when we play our best. We need to make 1/2 court defense irrelevant in this game. We need to make Cincy work with a 25 sec shot clock and speed them up. Cincy's bench is fairly short as well. I think if we run & gun we may trail most of the game, but may be able to pull it out late due to fatigue on the Cincy team. I think this is the only strategy that gives us a chance to win. If it's a methodical 1/2 court game it's over at the 10 min. mark of the 2nd half.

I’ve seen several posters say we can’t afford to get into a fast paced game with them, that we will get killed if we try to run and gun but I think your assessment sounds like a better idea, based on what I know about Cincy, which is admittedly very limited.

Makes sense, but Iowa has looked best in games where they’ve been balanced (see: Michigan). Need to be able to operate in the halfcourt while getting out and running in transition off makes/turnovers.

Cincy plays solid defense, strong on the boards, good but not great inside game, and shoots a decent % from 3. They are patient on both offense and defense. They are similar to Wisconsin. Our worst attribute is our 1/2 court defense.

If we are forced to play 30+ seconds on defense and patiently wait for a good look on offense, we will get smoked. We lack a PG who can create and it's in those types of games Tyler loses interest/commits silly fouls. If Moss doesn't make a shot early he disappears and JBo & JW struggle to find open looks.

However, if we press and make Cincy use 8-10 sec getting to their 1/2 court sets, and maybe get a few steals, we can speed the game up and make it a track meet;
1. Tyler can get a few crowd pleasing dunks, which seems to improve his D.
2. Moss can get a couple easy bucket in transition to get his confidence going, maybe he gets in one of his zones, forcing Cincy to run to the lane in transition D, then;
3. JBo, & Baer can hit 3 or more 3's in transition and JW turns back into "The Muscatine Kid." Who knows it's MARCH...anything can happen.

I kind-a-sorta agree. There will be times when we have to operate in the 1/2 court and we need to do what you suggest. But I think we need to limit that to less than 3 consecutive possessions. Past that point a game can just naturally settle down. That's when we lose focus and intensity. We're built to run.

All depends what Iowa team shows up. Need to be on the money shooting and our bigs need to play a tough inside game. We have not been good against decent competition away from home, but now is the time to sell out. Have a sense of urgency and don't let the season end without a great effort.

It's been a bit of a soul sucking season due to the fainting finish (WTF, Fran!), but for some reason, I feel good about tomorrow's game.
