National reactions to Clarks buzzer beater

You understand the "nature" of the Maryland coach, right? A CR gal who played her BB at Iowa State....and at a high level too.....there is probably a little "chip" on her shoulder....She's a damn solid BB coach.
Elite coach when it comes to development, in-game planning, and especially recruiting.

One of the worst coaches at creating culture and retention. Way too many former players have beef with her to blame it all on the portal.

When Reese/Owusu transfered, Mikesell liked their tweets announcing it. Owusu tweeted “lol” after Iowa demolished MD this year. Collins’ mom threatened to sue her when she mentioned Mimi’s grades to the Washington Post and said that was “lies as usual from Brenda.”

People leave that program early and usually on bad terms and it’s been happening for many years now.

Who eon yhe Big Ten Title, not Iowa. But espn did not give a dam about that. ESPn totally disrespected IU, But we know where the banner is hanging, and it is not at Iowa.
Hey Champ, give Jimmy Pitaro a buzz with your ESPN concerns. I'd include his contact info however I'm not certain your preferred language. We favor English here on our Hawkeye site.

Congratulations on your portal additions and a fine regular season. It's over, Caitlin Clark, our homegrown Iowa gal, delivered. The National Player of the Year, and her banner, will be hanging in Iowa City.

When you do reach Pitaro, could you ask him to give a bit more juice to Iowa baseball's 12-4 thrashing of #1 ranked LSU this weekend? Thanks Champ-

It was exactly the same response from Maryland after losing to Iowa in the first meeting, Their coach turned into a personal mission to circle Iowa for that game at home. Both coaches especially the Indiana coach said publicly how they felt Clark and to a smaller degree Iowa were getting the lions share of the pub, and they were being slighted. We got Indiana's best shot today, and will again next week, should we meet...
They aren't wrong. Iowa does get more publicity because of Clark. People turn on the TV to watch Clark. She draws eyeballs. I suppose if I were on one of those teams or were a fan of those teams I would have a chip on my shoulder because of that as well. It's part of becoming one of the most recognizable names in the game. It makes it even harder to perform because the pressure becomes even greater. So far, Clark has stood up to that pressure, in fact she seems to thrive on it. Only the best of the best athletes have that trait. She is well on her way to being the most marketable WNBA star in history and could very well become one of the most marketable athletes in the world, if she wants it. If she keeps doing what she is doing, it will be impossible to ignore her.

The IU guy must have been watching a different game then I did. The announcers were praising players on both teams, and said a number of times that big time players on both teams were making big time plays. Holmes and Berger are great. #22 was good in covering our #22. Whatsherbutt Sydney is a damn good shooter.

Just a great college basketball game. Iowa was lucky enough to come out on top. Indiana may get a chance at revenge next week in Minneapolis. I hope it happens.

Actually Brenda played at Arizona. She was an assistant coach at Iowa State that helped steal her little sister Stacy from Iowa to Iowa State, probably the start of the downfall of Angie Lee's coaching career at Iowa and kickstarted Bill Fennelly's at Iowa State.

Angie Lee's downfall was not due to Stacy going to ISU, it was a totally different issue.

Congratulations on not having to travel to Maryland this year, and good luck in the NCAA, represent the conference well.
IU benefitted from not having to go to MD, but IU still had the toughest conference schedule. IU played 11 games against the other 6 BIG teams currently projected in the NCAA tourney. Iowa and MD played 8, and OSU played 9.

With all due respect, I would argue that your metric for toughest conference schedule is arbitrary and possibly flawed. First, Iowa played those other three teams (OSU, Michigan and Illinois) only once and on their home courts. Also, since Indiana won the title by just one game, that one benefit (not having to play at Maryland) was probably the difference between winning the title outright and finishing in a three way tie.

Fair points. I’m not sure which is the best metric.

I gotta say, its kinda funny how salty both Indiana fans and the team and coach are about Iowa.

They were catty as f*** last year in the final regular season meeting and even worse in the BTT finals, and then basically had the game in Bloomington circled and finally "got their win back" thanks in part to cold shooting and turnovers by Iowa.

Now we have their head coach with the ultimate sour face, and Berger stomping on the sideline after the game and their fans collectively crying about the attention Iowa gets because of Clark.

Like all of the sudden, Indiana is the jealous rival Iowa didn't ask for..........
Indiana's coach is still upset during the post game review.

I hope Iowa WBB makes a deep tourney run this year. Next year, I really hope they go hard after a few portal additions for Clark's final season to make a serious run at a natty. A team with a generational talent like this should do all it can to surround that talent with a supporting cast than can seriously compete for the title.

These other Big Ten coaches must not see the entire picture. The national media is talking about a women’s player from the Big Ten conference! Not the $EC, not professional sports, but women’s basketball. How is this a bad thing? IU winning the regular season title only gets mentioned in the women’s basketball media circles, Clark makes national headlines.

The longer she stays at Iowa, the more marketable she will become. She will never be more popular and it could be huge. Once she goes to the WNBA, nobody will watch or care. Maybe overseas if that market ever returns. With Russia not much of a player anymore, who knows?

I’d say good chance two more years with the money she’s making. Most of us understand that.

That’s pretty on brand for IU…long before this year = brand

find rodman, paxon, and pippen equivalents; throw in a cartright type for 5 great fouls; maybe a horace grant as well.
:)

I don't always like her antics on the floor, but she plays the home crowd like a fiddle! The only other person I think I can compare her with is Hulk Hogan when he would enter the ring or finish off a match!!

Unfortunately between incoming recruits and Kate and Gabbie's return, I don't think they have any offers available unless someone hits the portal, which could very well happen.

This is correct.
