So a few unsolicited thoughts from tonight's game:
  • It was great to see Tanner "Sarge" Padgett back in the lineup. He struck out protecting his runner but it goes down as a quality at bat in the book. His power isn't quite Jake Adams but it's close.
  • McDonald held his velocity really, really well tonight. He was sitting 88-92mph in his last inning. Save a few infield singles and two untimely walks, he pitched great.
  • Shimp managing to get four outs is huge for his confidence. His pitches had movement we haven't seen since his freshman year.
  • Whalen was seeing the ball well tonight. His double nearly put a hole in the turf. He's figured it out over the past month.
  • Mitchell Boe is the conference's best defensive baseman not named Ako Thomas. His diving play in the 5th or 6th saved a run. We'll miss him next year.
  • Tomorrows another "series Sunday on a Saturday" kinda day. Take tomorrow and let Judkins work for the sweep Sunday.

We are so lucky to have Rick Heller.

Check out the game winning hit.

There could have/should have been a play at the plate. But, as the announcer said, the right fielder air mailed it!

Love Nebbie Air Mail!

Agree on Shimp. He has stuff to be a really good reliever. Heller can go to Leonard or all the other pieces in the bullpen today to try and get win No. 2.

Hopefully this means Padgett might be able to return to DH duty in the next week or so. Dude can hit. Took Iowa's #3 or 4 hitter right out of the lineup. Just speaks to Heller's ability to build a team when arguably the team's best hitter (Padgett) and the Saturday starter (Dreyer) have been out for so long this year and here they are in top 4 of the league and in the hunt for at-large berth.

Dreyer down is big, Friday night stuff and may have been there by now if healthy. Yet we’ve kept things solid on Saturday.
