Nelson Brands has 454 takedowns this year

Going up might be best for Kem long term to have a shot at multiple titles. But I see him as a career 57, still think he's undersized this year. Berger and Nolf looked much bigger then Kem.

Plus, there's guy named Alex sitting at 65.

Definitely could be wrong, but I don't think it's completely out of the question that Kem could move up and Alex could come down to 157. Looking at their frames, Kem has more potential to move up. If Alex could make the cut OK, he'd be a holy terror down at 157. If Kem could put on enough quality weight before next season, it could work out better for both of them.

He may be better than most of the Illinois kids but they would not surrender that many takedowns. Ask O'Connor.

I'm a fan of head Coach Josh Oster and a lot of his kids but Lockport ain't no OPRF. Montini is close.
Fun fact:
Every kid currently in OPRF's program has been part of a machine that has yet failed to produce them an Illinois 3A state team title since they've been enrolled there. Outside of a couple kid's that have transferred out no other high school kid in the world has ever won an Illinois 3A state team title. Almost UConn WBB like :D

tee shirts I expect to hand out to our seniors the weekend after next.
I think I just saw a Wendy's commercial with 4 For Four, so you may want to put a red haired girl or a picture of a frosty on the back to make them official.

And because I am too lazy to look up the time frame, I am hoping that the weekend after next is AFTER the finals. As I recall, predicting a championship before it happens does not usually work out in wrestling. The letter X has always been my least favorite letter.

Predicting a championship after it happens defeats the purpose and/or changes the definition of a prediction. ;)

The question right now is who is better Kemdawg or Alex? Kind of like BS and Kemerer.

Jaybird, bigger than Mike or not, Berger is 0-2 against "Big enough" Mike. WW, I think we already have a "holy terror" at 157. Mike has lost one match this year and is ranked #2 in the country as a freshman. If Mike finishes 2nd, he will have a better start to his career than our last career 157lb stud, DSJ who finished 4th as a freshman. Mike is fast becoming a corner stone of the Hawks and he keeps getting better.

Right, but the question is which combination is better -- Marinelli 57 and Kem 65 or the other way around. I don't think there's much doubt that Kem has the better frame to grow into 65. Both kids are so darn tough, it may not make a difference.

Got it, I thought you were in the Kemmerer cuts to 149 in a few years when we get (hopefully) Nelson Brands camp. My mistake. Brings up a side topic. Can anyone think of a dominant wrestler who was say ranked #2 in the country, then dropped down a weight class the next year or the year after that and was successful? I'm sure it's happened, but I can't think of an example.

If u are talking strictly rankings the Dardanes would apply during the year they went up, then dropped the following. Obviously results did not mirror the rankings.

Wasn't the younger Zadick ranked pretty high and then dropped down the next year. I think they could not make the line up until someone graduated.

Wait Kem is ranked 2nd in the nation? I thought he was just an avg redshirt.

My point was about Kem moving up! I don't see it happening next year. But anything is
possible, he suppose he could grow to 74 by his sr year also.

Nothing about his ranking or his place among Hawk lore.

Troy Steiner national champ @ 142. Next season was the #1 seed at nationals @ 134. Placed 3rd. Lost to Kolat in semis, who lost to Jaworski In the finals. Pretty tough bracket.

That is a great example. I think generally speaking (without having hard data to go off of) if you have a guy who's dominant at a weight, he likely will be less dominant if he cuts down a weight class. The trend lately has been guys getting bigger, putting on good size and wrestling a healthier, stronger weight. I hoping we don't have a situation where the Bull and the Dog cut a bunch of weight. I imagine they would both be less entertaining based on the fact that their energy level would be lower.

Our 2019-2020 team could look like this

125- Lee Soph
133- Teasdale RSFR
141- Murin/Happel Soph/ Junior
149- Sasso RSFR
157- Kemmerer Sr./ N. Brands sits a season as RSFR
165- Marinelli Jr
174- Young Jr
184- M. Wilson (pins his way through NCAAs) Soph
197- Warner Soph
Hwt- Schultz FR (If we don't land him Costello Soph)

To many on here have been watching college wrestling to long and not HS. There's some awful wrestling in HSs on both sides of the Mississippi River.

FYI, Nelson isnt the first HS wrestler to have over 400 takedowns in a year.

We need to remember that weigh in rules are different now than back in the 80's
