It is sad watching Iowa players try to tackle Mccaffrey. They are just flailing about and end up face planted on the ground. Also have never seen so many Iowa players just flat out ending up on the ground. Is the field a slip and slide? And Lomax getting schooled by Mccaffrey, and.....Hogan. Hogan juked him out of his shoes.

This game really taints the season. But hey, we won the beef bowl. Maybe we needed less beef eating and more preparation, practice, and fitness?

This was 100% on the players today. Lomax sucked, nobody blocked, the defense couldn't tackle and the wideouts dropped balls hitting them in the hands. I thought this team was dialed in but #5 made them all look like little girls. I did like Wadley, but he didn't get on the field enough.

Ott out..Meier hurt..Lomax hurt
Meyer hurt, Ike hurt, T Smith hurt, G Mabin hurt, CJ hurt, all 3 rb's hurt and out during season,
Excuses..yep.
Out-manned, out-talented.

I thought playing on grass had something to do with Iowa's tackling today. Saw a ton of guys slip or lose their footing. No excuses for it, though.

So, not 100% on the players....
This is 100% on the whole damn team (coaches, players, GAs, etc).

Didn't you watch any games last year :)
It was a replay of our game against Tennessee. Southern schools just have too much speed for the Iowas of the world. I will classify Stanford as resembling the SEC schools as far as speed athletes.

How did Northwestern beat them? Also Oregon who btw despite their amazing speed lost to MSU?

Fact is we didn't show up in the first half. Like Oklagoma vs Texas, MSU vs Nebraska, Bama v Ole Miss, etc etc. it happens. We laid an egg

Oklahoma lost to Texas. Alabama to Ole Miss. Geezzus H Friday guys, this is sports. Tiger Woods had an 80 or two in his hay days too. It's sports. We had a bad f'ing game. Live with it. It's why good days are so much fun.

It was very tough to watch in-person. The game was over before it really got going. I didn't stay around to watch the finish

The tackling brought to mind when ND caught Alabama in the championship. Alabama (Stanford) was so much more athletic than ND (Iowa) saw all year that they were completely caught off guard in the bowl game and they couldn't fill the gap or cut angles like they had done all year

I figured Iowa would dial up some thing to contain McCaffrey and make the rest of the Stanford team beat them. It looked like they didn't even watch game film. Absolutely horrific game plan on all sides of the ball. Tackling has been an issue all year, especially in the secondary. Nothing changes.

****ing joke. This staff had zero ready for this crew. Out coached.

Sacks were killers, not a good game to become a statue in the pocket. We needed to run right at them at the start. Injuries were a factor.

I totally agree that Iowa did not play well. However, I do not think we had the right cleats on the first half. Our defenders were like skating on ice in first half and even the RB couldn't make a cut. First play of game, both fisher and lomas slipped IMO. Lomax was limping all game too

Second half seemed better from footing perspective so I wonder if we changed cleats. It use to happen all the time when teams played on grass fields

If there was a problem with cleats and they waited until half time to change them then we got bigger problems than talent.

Iowa laid a turd, Stanford played great no doubt, but I'm not sure how healthy this team was coming out of MSU. If you're hurt, you aren't practicing live reps.

Lomax did his best Tanner Miller impression all day long.

Pretty crappy way for that guy to go out. Was he injured?

Fire the equipment manager then.

His kid is making enough money now that they should be fine.

Totally agree. The Stanford staff probably had that first play called for 3 weeks

They obviously looked at our film because they hit us in every area of weakness. The first play was the old David Johnson play more or less. They used zone read and got to the edge which we did not set once again. The trick play was designed to hit the safety/corner who were looking in the backfield and stopped running with the receiver. Same thing on their late TD. We punt to a guy we knew could take it to the house. We allowed their players to hurdle over the top of our lineman on FG and extra points because they are crouching too low. They should have blocked the FG attempt. That was on film from all year. Something KF came on the radio 3 games ago and said they would fix but yet to. Must have meant fix in the off season!

Combine that with our status quo approach like we were playing Illinois and we got what we got A total unprepared spring / open scrimmage game.

Standford has highly intelligent players and coaches.

Standford has highly athletic players.

Standford has experience.

Stanford has depth.

Stanford has creativity in their game planning.

Stanford was highly motivated.

Stanford was technically outstanding in their tackling, blocking, route running.

Stanford was quicker and tougher in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Stanford jumped on Iowa's throat in the first 10 seconds...and simply enjoyed the kill.

Stanford has a history of going to and winning the Rose Bowl. Iowa has a history of embarrassment at the Rose Bowl.

Stanford was impressive on all levels...Iowa was hideous on all levels.

Stanford was merciful...or it would have been 80-0.

It wasn't that complicated, or pretty...or surprising...a KF egg laid against a very good team...on national TV...the granddaddy of all eggs.

If it was due to the wrong Shoes/spikes, then I'm even more p****d about that performance than
already was.........From the first whiff trying to tackle that lil shister, to CJ's completely Ill-advised pick 7, this team was NOT ready to go. Why, I have no idea. Bright lights??

Not ready for Prime Time Iowa Hawkeyes and the coaching staff.

Greg Davis play calling... Just stop.

I had the same Rose Bowl experience in 91 and went to the car to drink beer at half time/stayed. Ruined the whole freaking trip for me. Big reason I had no interest in attending this Rose Bowl. Just sucks and was embarassing for Iowa football.

I love Lomax. He is a great talent and a well-spoken person, an obvious leader on the team. However, he was not close to 100%. He looked far slower than normal, and I'm not blaming the grass and cleats for that.

I think this, as much as anything, proves that the game is still a glorified exhibition. If the Iowa coaches were really motivated above all to win, would Lomax have played?

That said, I have never believed that the Iowa coaches are motivat4ed above al to win. The Iowa coaching staff has always rewarded players (or at least given them the benefit of the doubt to those) that have experience and that go about things the right way, the Iowa way. Ferentz is loyal above all else. I honestly can't say that he would have played this any different if it was the first round of the playoffs, and that is actually something we should probably be proud of.
