I wouldn't be surprised to see Lance Runyon crack that list by the end of the year. Kid's always been a gamer and has competed on the big stage forever. Both he and Devos are very young for their grade (Non redshirt) and will continue to get bigger and stronger. Now that he's at SE Polk, Coach C will absolutely get the best out of him before he's off to college.

U must love drinking SE Polk Kool-Aid. Yes SE Polk is top program in the state but a coach isn't going to make that big of a difference in how kid does at state. It's up to the kid to wrestle the match not the coach. If that was the case SE Polk let Devos down since he didn't win state last season. Or maybe just maybe Devos never wrestled someone as funky as Birt. I'll give u an example of get high school wrestling coach that never wrestle only watch Gable wrestle and train. Coach T form maquoketa. Coach Tamper was one of the top high school coaches in Iowa. He also coached one of the top iowa high school and college wrestler Eric Juergens. It's about the individual not the coach in my beliefs

So kid that got third in state twice didn't have a little guidance. Well I guess it was all luck than

I think Runyon had to get his partners at the club level. During the season you might be reduced to 1 club practice a week. Now he's in a room full time with Devos and has Nate Lendt this year to roll around with as well. Having good partners, a great coaching staff, and wrestling a tough schedule which includes out of state tournaments is a great way to improve. Most of the high level kids in this state were good before they walked into their HS rooms. With the sport having gone the way of the Club route years ago, that's reality nowadays. In my opinion the SEP coaching staff is top notch. Sure they've had their fair share of transfers in but Coach C has a track record of taking average kids and getting them on the stand when they're upperclassmen. Especially in the heavier weights. And no, I have ZERO ties to the program.

I agree SE Polk has great program. The school backs the wrestling program and it looks like they have a lot of money. Coaches in there area tell me SE Polk push rules and undermine other programs. This is all hear say form 4 different coaches in the area that I have a lot of respect for. I do not coach in this area myself. It's really not that hard to develop an upper weight kid to make the podium. I have been lucky to do it over handful of times in ten years. It's up to them to come in the room when it's open in offseason. Also and this is the only serious question I have who the hell has energy or time to go to club practice during the season. I keep hearing kids going to club practices during the season. How does this work.
