New Hawk Angelo Ferrari

Saw Angelo on campus today. With a backpack...meaning enrolled in classes, right? ;)

BTW, wouldn't a full-sized 184lber be around 195 right now? He didn't look that big to me, but I'm probably a bad judge of such things.
A full size 184 walks around over 200.

I might be in the minority but I'd like to see Angelo and Arnold go this year. Turn the page. Nelson rubs me the wrong way making light of the gambling situation last year.
I second this. Time to turn the page.....Don't be shocked when he's not on the podium this year. (N.B.) I also don't think he is the best leader in the room. Just my opinion...which we know means nothing.

I would be good with Caliendo, Arnold, than Ferrari

Someone let the coaches know what kkhawk would be good with, please.
By all accounts, Angelo is not a full-sized 84 lber in a loaded weight class. If he is in fact of a size that he can beat Nelson, then he will likely start.
You have no clue what kind of leader Nelson is in the room. You are basing this all off one one gambling scandal that also included Kennedy, Cobe, Cassioppi and Schriever. He is the son of a coach and has escaped drama for almost 7 years. I don't think that's an easy thing to do in Iowa City with that last name.
Hell, Stoll was shot in the leg and you never said a word.
With all due respect, check yourself.

Would you be OK with him beating Gabe/Kennedy out at 174 and burning a year valuable eligibility for either?

Wasn't it mentioned in a thread a few weeks ago that Nelson planned to go at 174?

Really curious to how 165, 174 and 184 play out this year. I am REALLY high on little Ferrari but would not want to throw him out there against Keck and Starcrap right away. I know Starfish is not a huge offensive juggernaut but he still is a 4 time champ vs a true Frosh and that’s a tall task for anybody let alone a True Frosh. Now if he is at 174 and beats Gabe on a regular basis(have no idea if he does) no body other than O’Toole scares me here for Gabe, Pk or Ferrari. Unless Haines is here add him to the list.

After Haines performance at WTT seems like it would be hard to keep him off the mat

For what it's worth, I heard Ferrari's summer wt was mid 190s. I am guessing that he is down in the 80s just on practice alone. Like was mentioned above, he'll get some matches and I imagine they won't hesitate to throw him in against a ranked/good opponent.

You don’t know me nor what I know. Like I said my opinion. My opinion is based on what I’ve seen both firsthand and others whose opinion I respect.

Oh, ok, I don't know you so I can't criticize what you write? Moderators please shut down the forum now, then. When you state your silly opinion without backing it up, or state it based on hearsay, you'll get "my type" of reply almost every time. This is an anonymous message board, so you can say whatever you want and claim "You don't know me"? Tell me your name then.

A leader in the room is different than a leader on the streets of IC. Are you in the room everyday? If so, then I probably DO know you.

The room needs a few good leaders, not all 10 starters. Are you saying Angelo is a better leader because you'd rather see him in the lineup?

Angelo Ferrari made a tiktok post where he listed all his goals he had going into high school and showed himself completing them (Wanted to be ranked number 1, so I did, Wanted to go D1, so I did.). Then he said: Wanted to win NCAAs as a freshman, ... Think he will redshirt and come into 2025 as one of the favorites at 184

Excited about Angelo. I think he’s gonna do very well. At this point barring injury to Brands he will be redshirted. I think we will see him get his 5 free passes to wear the Black & Gold with Brands getting rest due to it being his 7th year.

I think you're wrong. I like Arnold as much as the next guy, but I don't see him as an automatic podium guy. He's going to have to be better than last year when I think some - Plott excluded - might have taken him for granted. I don't think AA type fellas will take him for granted this year...and I think when he wrestles the AA type talent, he's going to have to open his offense a little or risk falling victim to the PK syndrome. PK syndrome = scoring lots of points against lesser opponents when it doesn't really matter, and doing a whole lot of hand fighting and losing close matches against AA level opponents when it really does matter. I was always a huge fan of PK's, probably too much so. He never really sealed the deal when he had a good chance to do so.
One thing that throws people off with PK was his top 10 p4p ranking. I believe he was closer to a top 50 guy in reality. He wrestled up a couple of weights in High School which hid the minor things that have kept him from being not only an AA, but a high AA. It's also why PK has been able to get better every year more so than a typical top 10 guy IMO. I expect this to be the best version yet. Don't mistake his lack of points against the top guys as anything other than his skill set can get neutralized more by the top guys. Same as with most guys. He goes out there looking to put up points against everyone.

That NCAA loss still haunts me. He was cruising to a win when he gave up that 2nd period TD. That caused him to go into prevent mode which accentuates the minor holes in his game that were hid when he wrestled up in high school. Nobody outworks the kid, and nobody has more confidence than PK. We're lucky to have him pushing MC and GA for the starting spots. I just think the rankings had it wrong. Which isn't a slight to him at all. He's one of my favorite guys.

We could see him vs. Nelson at the Solider Salute, Berge and McEnelly as well.

The disrespect for Arnold and PK is palpable.
You need to visit the 5 pages where HerkHawl defended Kennedy to no avail. There are a few on here that think he is the guy to beat, not because it's his spot to lose but because he is so underrated.

I know for a fact that the John Smith OSU team was chomping at the bit for him and Riggins to hit the portal.

Yep, one of my favorites these past 4-5 years and always thought he would finally get there. Like you mentioned that loss at NCAAs crushed me. I really wanted him to make it happen. :)

What disrespect? There is none. NB was 5th at NCAAs, and Arnold and PK were...not 5th. I've got nothing but love for PK and have been on his bandwagon - and taken a lot of verbal shit for being on his bandwagon - through the years. And Arnold is young. He did great things for us last year and hopefully he'll be a 4-time AA but so far he's not yet achieved what NB has. Can't wait to see them all battling for positions! :)

Awfully dramatic
He's not being dramatic. Go look at the thread where I had over 50 replies defending Kennedy as a probable starter at 174. Better yet, start your own thread questioning if Kennedy will be the starter at 174 and see what type of replies you get.

Realistically who is getting the best of who right now between PK, Arnold and Brands. Saw a picture of brands on FB - he seemed slim as in 74. Could have just been lean after a long practice.

Any insights?

Also I would not be shocked if Angelo was smashing day one.

Maybe he was next to a super fat guy.

And no, I’ve never stood next to Nelson.

My highly uneducated guess is Brands > Arnold > PK. PK a little too sloppy for Arnold’s solid defense and Brands big brothers them. Round robin in a roundabout?

So, now days it’s disrespectful to disagree with a poster on who will be a starter? Btw, having 50 posters disagree with you might say more about your view than disrespect on their part, imo.
Not disrespectful in a manners - sense. More in the sports use of the word. Disrespectful meaning overlooking him. And many of those who disagree are simply disagreeing because Arnold has potential and Kennedy didn't meet their expectations. Most opinions were not based on wrestling criteria. So, yes, disrespected

I mean he was clearly in violation of ncaa rules regardless of how he got caught... or how dumb we might think the rule is.
Sure, everyone knows it's a no-no for athletes to gamble. However, I can assure you that when all of this came out there's no way in hell that there were only 2 programs in the country with athletes using gambling apps.

When no other schools had issues, only Iowa and isu, you knew something fishy was going on.

So yeah, I'm not all that upset about Nelson making some silly Kenny Rodgers references.

Overlooking a guy who has twice failed to AA is disrespecting him?

Your infatuation with PK, and crying about how he is being treated, is a little odd.
