**NEW** Iowa Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread

Interesting, an odd tweet appears and gets up my hopes (a little anyway) just when I’ve written her off.

As you note it is bizarre to post something like that without having some merit - but anything goes on social media so who really knows?
Doubt it. When Murrow first came into portal, there was talk she would go to Big Ten, which makes some sense. Then there was all the bull crap from people who don’t have any idea that she would “never come to Iowa because of racist” propaganda. (Left over from Angel Reese story). Now, we have the “she’s a Hawk” on Twitter.

I don’t think she’ll play for Freeze at Maryland. Too much blood in the water there. Illinois? No way. Indiana, possibly, but I don’t think she fits there, either. I would guess Michigan, OSU or Iowa.

Really, if she wants future NIL or national exposure- it’s a no-brainer. Iowa and Caitlin Clark.

Bummer, it’s not looking good for IA to land real difference makers it appears.
Hard to be critical of Bluder and staff given the results, but I really am not seeing any recruiting momentum from CC's time at Iowa.

While it was fantastic in the short term getting Warnock, Monica, Marshall, and Martin to stick around...I think it could have hurt high level recruits coming to IC and having to sit for 1-2 years.

Of course, with the portal, high school recruiting has taken a back seat.
Has to be a giant pain in the ass for coaches to navigate this new reality.

All true. High level/rated high school recruits want to compete for championships - Iowa has shown it has done that. But they also want to come in an get at least some playing time early and Iowa had a chance to separate themselves as a place that would provide that. Instead, they hung on to every super senior they could, making themselves unattractive for at least another year to high level high school players. Could change after the 2020s are gone.

Bluder is also in her 60s and appears to walk with a bit of a limp.

Not insinuating anything, but there could be some negative recruiting occurring as well.

Would be interesting to see how that money is distributed. Looking at the roster, how many names would generate significant interest if they entered the portal?

That’s just a dumb post. Really dumb.

Like Hell it does. Bluder, Jensen, and Clark herself have no problem with it. You haven’t been listening to what they have been saying. You and those stuck in 1950s misogamy are the only ones with your uptight knickers in a twist.
Someone here hates marriage?

I’m clearly not arguing that Iowa is a top destination but there are a couple things wrong with this.

One (obviously lmao) is that Warnock is not returning for a 5th year. Two is that the COVID decisions came after the respective recruiting cycles were over. For 2022 we were booked well over a year in advance before Czinano came back (two even?), and Bluder still left a spot for a transfer. The same thing happened this year. Bluder finished the recruitment cycle with all of our 2023 targets (win or lose) and only then invited Gabbie and Kate back. I think inviting them back was likely not her original plan. I think she would have preferred landing Jasmine Brown or another missed Top 50 target if given the choice of that opportunity or bringing Kate/Gabbie back. If we were seeing more transfers out, I’d say the COVID year was posing a problem. I think it more likely that the things that I have listed ad nauseum previously as plaguing recruiting are to blame.

Also, FWIW I would not be surprised at all if McKenna ends up taking her 5th year after all. If Bluder can’t find the right big in the portal and/or if anyone else transfers out (O’Grady, Edigar especially) I could def see Warnock putting off dental school for a year. Only having one year of eligibility won’t impact other recruits, and it might even be mutually beneficial if Warnock doesnt get into her top choice. This has happened over the past couple years more than a few times across the country. People go into the portal as a grad txfr and/or take part in senior day and then a month later return bc circumstances change and/or a roster spot opens.

To be clear I’d rather see Hannah, Addi, AJ etc step up and refresh our front court but I’m not Bluder and I don’t know what they’re ready for. I’m still not convinced Addi is on board with what Bluder wants her to become and I’m not convinced Bluder wants Hannah at the 4.

There are numerous players in the portal still available they would make the hawks a better team. No solid recruiting information available for the women but I can’t imagine Lisa standing still while other teams are working hard to improve their rosters. We lose our second and third best players who averaged close to 30 points per game last year. IMO with our current roster we are nowhere near the team we were last year. Hannah and O’Grady have a long way to go to reach the lost production. Hit the portal Lisa !

I think that depends on your definition of a better team. Iowa could almost certainly find a rotation player in the portal. In terms of impact starters, I think it's much more limited. Maybe even just Betts and Morrow.

And FWIW it certainly seems like the coaches are still trying to use the open scholarship on Britt Prince or another 2024 recruit instead of using it on a portal addition.

The staff reached out to Morrow & Betts. Not much you can do if they're not interested. The amount of difference making bigs in the portal is extremely limited.
How do you know they aren’t interested? With playing with Caitlin Clark and a team that reached the Ship? Damn well bet they are interested.

Like I said, it's just a poster's opinion, just like everyone here. Their average poster >>the average poster here when it comes to WBB knowledge, plus they're more civil in discussing topics. FWIW, where do you think she'll end up?
Probably SC or Iowa

They’re not saying they’re not interested, just that interest has to go both ways. People are begging / demanding Bluder to go the portal and she is. They’ve reached out. The swarm is also stepping up. Clark is likely involved too.

You can’t ask for much more. If a kid doesn’t wanna come to Iowa, you can’t blame the coach. We can discuss how Bluder might be a better recruiter but it’s an exercise in futility bc she’s not on here reading these comments lol.

Personally I think they should have got Clark some help in the backcourt but by bringing Marshall & Martin back, that seems unlikely. The portal is very guard heavy - I guess we'll see if that was the right choice. Here's a portal list...there are a few out there. Basically all have the same names but ranked a bit differently.

I liked MW a lot but I don’t think she’ll be as difficult to replace. Her experience was massive and will be missed but her production was at times spotty (as is the case with most college kids). MC is a different case but if Jan works her magic with AO’G I think the drop off could be less significant.
I do agree a “proven” big would be a benefit but she’s GOT to fit in the system. And by system I mean personalities/team/family atmosphere of this group. No divas needed.
