**NEW** Iowa Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread

Looks like Coach Harmon is at The Clash in Cincinnati this weekend. Guessing someone is at Boo Williams & Heart of Texas is going on in Dallas as well.

Too white.....that's the outside perception.
It's been discussed at length in this thread, but yes, the perception (accurate or not) seems to be too rural, too conservative, too white, coach too old, etc. Hopefully some of that will change a bit with KJE coming in, Hannah is starting, Gyamfi is getting minutes, and we sign some of the good black athletes that are in-state. Like Divine Bourrage and Journey Houston from Davenport, and especially Jenica Lewis. Didn't help that we lost Sahara Williams to Oklahoma. Others have suggested that NIL might seem better in other markets, though that's way beyond my expertise.

Read an article suggesting the Hawks should sign Donarski. I agree she's an impact player, and would maybe be better at the 2 than Marshall, and at the 3 would help stretch defenses to counter losing Warnock. But that's a lot of guards, and I would really hate to see us lose Taylor McCabe to the portal. I think she's going to be a major impact player over the next 3 years. Or Kylie, for that matter. I'm more inclined, e.g. to look at Shay Bollin from Duke to add depth to our bigs. Or, focus more on recruiting.

Ya know. Starting CC, Marshall, Donarski, Martin, Stuelke wouldn’t be a bad lineup at all. I’m doubtful she would want to come to Iowa but I think it more likely than HVL. It would also mean Bluder really distrusts our bench players to step up at the 4.

I don't think you could get away with playing Martin at the 4. She's nowhere near her listed height of 6'0. If people thought rebounding was bad last year, with that lineup they'd get killed on the glass. Seems like any portal help is a longshot at this point but who knows???

I say we f***ing force a top big to come here so we can win a national f***ing championship and not watch LSU, UConn or South Carolina win another one, which is what everyone else outside of Iowa seems content to see happen for whatever f***ing reason................

Not a big shock nor surprise that Iowa was not even on her radar. Iowa sports (MBB, WBB, and FB) and the transfer portal are, for the most part, mutually exclusive.
Kylie Feuerbach was a huge get in ‘21. Had a great year last year then tore her ACL. She will be an important piece of us moving forward. Her txfring also blew up devastated ISU fans so that’s a two-fer.

I don't doubt she's 6'0". She seems to be the same height as Kylie and Caitlin. But 6'0" is not big enough to play the 4, and she's just not a 4 type of player anyway. My guess is Bluder will start Addy at the 5, Hannah at the 4, and Kate at wing.

I also think this is most likely. I don't think Donarksi is coming to Iowa. I was just saying that if that does somehow turn out (or if Bluder grabs another guard), it means she simply doesn't think Addi and Hannah are both ready to step up as starters simultaneously.

Also, to be 100% clear...even though Donarki is certainly a long shot, I think Donarski is 500% likely than HVL lol.

IOW, I guess if I'm Bluder and i'm not convinced that anyone besides Stuelke can step up to start (which I don't think is likely), my options would be:

1) Look for a big in the portal who is an impact player and also start Hannah. Can't find one?
2) Look for an elite guard and move Martin to the 4.
3) No portal help? Stick with Stuelke and O'Grady at 4 and 5.

Just kind of a reverse engineering thought process in light of the Athletic article saying Donarski should be our top target from the portal (man I bet Clones fans hate that lol). I guess there's a greater than 0% chance that Bluder might have the same thought. Upside is Clark + Donarski might be the best guard duo in the country -- could certainly compete with the likes of Ohio State and UConn. I haven't really looked at Gs in the portal, I'm curious whether there's really anyone else at her level who could theoretically put us in that position.

This is all an exercise in what-ifs since things have been quite on the portal-front. I dont think anyone is coming. If someone does, it'll certainly be out of left field....

Another aspect we haven't talked about with regards to recruiting is our lack of WNBA talent. Even Gustafson, our most storied alum, was not a first round pick and bounced around a bit, clinging to rosters. I'm glad she was re-signed this year. With Griner back, I was worried she'd be cut.

And I've seen some Mercury fans gripe about how she should be cut....but tbh some of those might just be Iowa haters who are still mad about 2019 lol.

MD has been making a HUGE P/R push on Twitter with regard to their number of first round picks lately -- I saw Brenda Frese even RT a post about it, saying "The numbers don't lie" -- to try to get an impact transfer like Morrow, and I realized damn, yeah, that's something we really can't compete with at all. No way to spin that.

Let me get this straight...

Betts commits to UCLA, and you break the news with a sarcastic post taking shots at fans you think want to run Stuelke out of town.

Then, 2 posts later, you ponder whether Bluder may be better off kicking the greatest player in the history of the program out to cater to a high schooler?

Like...what?
He's not very smart. In fact he's dumber than ****.

How many of these transfers think Iowa in the final 4 was a one off and they look at the perennial powers as having a better chance of getting to final 4.

I wouldn't take that Athletic article too seriously. It concludes neither O'Grady or Stuelke can be as efficient as Czinano or Warnock. That's... not the weakness I'd point to. Stuelke shot 62.7% from 2 this year. O'Grady was 61.4%. No that's not Czinano good, but it's pretty darn close. And Czinano shot 54.9% as a freshman when she was a backup. It doesn't take much imagination to think either could get near Czinano next year.

I think it's fair to assume that O'Grady and Stuelke probably won't be the volume scorers that Czinano was. They certainly won't space the floor like Warnock. But efficient scoring? Both excel in that department.

Donarski might be the best transfer option left for Iowa, but that's mostly because there aren't many clearcut upgrades. The portal this year had several very good players, but overall was light on players that were a clear upgrade for this roster.

I'm glad the Athletic covers women's basketball, but one struggle of being a national writer is that you don't know the ins and outs of most teams all that well.

Paragraph 14, lists criteria for her dream school. Pretty much a word-for-word description of Iowa womens program.

In the portal now from Duke.
Were injuries also why she didn't she play much last year for Duke? Based on her scouting report, she seems like she could be an ideal 4 for what Bluder and co. want. Can stretch floor from deep like Warnock, but offers a lot more with size/athleticism, ballhandling, and ability to get to and finish around the hoop.

Not sure on her injury situation/status. Looks like she's visited Wisconsin and Illinois. Being followed by a bunch of Badgers. She's following quite a few Illini players and the team account.

Looks like Gustin was an undersized post at BYU but she is an absolute beast physically with a nice touch around the hoop. Not sure she would come here unless she would earn starter minutes.
