Safe to say Metcalf is no longer a HWC member?

Think about this for a sec.. Based on what I am told--ISU will have the highest paid staff in the nation.

Little brother getting big brother to clean up their mess. Sad that ISU has gotten to this point.

Is he (Metcalf) an assistant or a volunteer assistant? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a volunteer assistant volunteering their time (as in, unpaid)?

Dresser is an excellent fund raiser. When he was a HS coach in Virginia, he raised enough money to have a salary of 80k just to coach wrestling, and hired a club coach who made 60k just to coach wrestling.

My guess is Brent will run the cyclone rotc as well as being a volunteer assistant, and probably get paid as well or better than the assistants.

That hurts. I think the attitude from every hawk wrestling fan I've talked to was that we were going to get him on staff after a couple years of coaching expireince and when we knew for sure that this competing days were over.

Now he's a Cyclone? wtf.

Getting Metcalf is huge! It will be very weird seeing him in Cyclone gear. It is going to be an enormous culture shock for that team/school.

It is interesting. Just 2 months ago it appeared Pollard barely even knew he had a wrestling team under his wing, much less that he gave a damn about it. And now opening the checkbook big time.

Good for dresser. Good for the rivalry. Bad for us Hawks? That remains to be seen. :)

Initially a shock. And pretty funny all former Hawks brought in to unscrew the Clowns. But there are so many coaching jobs in wrestling. So guys really gotta do what is best for them personally. What I really love is all those idiot Clowns who not only rip all things Hawk especially Metcalf and Zadick are now backtracking so fast. That is one sad pathetic fanbase on all levels.

Do you think all of the waves they are making in Ames currently (Highest paid coaching staff, bringing in all Ex-Hawks, massive fundraising..) will have any effect on the Iowa program? By that I mean do you think the University Foundation or whoever decides to get serious about endowing the HWC, and competing with the checkbook instead of resting on the laurels of the program?

As much as I hate to admit it, ISU looks like they have a ton of momentum right now, and PSU and tOSU have already had this administrative support for years now.

I just don't want Iowa to get left behind in this RTC, Fundraising arms race.

It is going to be difficult...
Zadick is an incredible recruiter and relates well with the kids.
Heck his beard is a great recruiter!
It will be difficult now to pick a team even though I am a UNI alumnus.
All three schools now led by Gable protégés.
Wow!

I'm not going to get too worked up about it. If they really wanted Zadick here he would be here still. I'll take our lower weight guys all day still. Metcalf obviously was not going to be here anyway for whatever reason (mainly no spot open it seems). Like Goblin said money talks. If anything this should give our admin a wake up call to get out the check book. Metcalf has been in our room, not as official coach but in our room.

I am trying to not knee jerk here as yes that staff and momentum looks salty. This on the heels of Gavin leaving as well as PSU and other programs apparently hitting a stride and Iowa looking not great next year. However, the one thing I will say on ISU is self-evident. They are still f-ing ISU. Always will be little brother and unless wrestling Iowa there will be no fans at the meets.

Sort of a kick in the nuggets when they got Dresser ... add Zadick and Metcalf to boot ... well now, they're just running over our nuggets ...

Good God, we can only pray... And we're already being left in the dust in the RTC and fundraising arms race... This is just another program passing us by. If this doesn't make some people around the program wake the F up, nothing will.

I miss Bob Bowlsby.

Having Tom, Terry, and Metcalf all on the staff is a whole lot of redundancy. I'd rather we prioritize mat wrestling. I got no problem with Metcalf landing this gig. A strong ISU program will push us - and that's good.
