Next Season......

If someone or someone's is moving up a weight they need to start working with Rutt to add the good necessary weight NOW (or tomorrow) and not him and haw about it for months.
but that would take long term planning.

Meyer has looked lethargic and not real explosive often this year. He does cut a lot to make 174. Brooks has has gassing issues at times too. I think they both have the frames to move up and frankly it might help their slow reaction times to defending leg shots. Brooks was in the 180s his Sr. year at fargo for GR and them bumped to the 195? weight for FS and kicked but. If Mcintosh and Pfarr can do well at 197 then so can Brooks.
In both Meyer and Brooks second match last night, they looked spent. I know they spent a ton of effort in the R12, but I think knowing they had to weigh-in this morning meant they couldn't put a lot of calories in their body to get ready for the second match. I think they both need to put good weight on and go up so they can really let it all hang out the whole match.
I'm sure They both roll with Burak in the room and he was right there all year at 197. They and the coaches know how they'll do IF they decide to move up from these guys going at it.

Nice post both looked as if they had not fully recovered. Brooks got robbed of a pin and extra rest. Meyer faced a guy who was fresh due to receiving a forfeit. They both gave everything they had.

Go worry about Iowa state douchebag.
Again... Sorry Mr. Brooks.

BTW: I'm not worried about ISU. Love seeing them be irrelevant and their fans hyperventilating about a 5th, 6th, and 7th place AAs in a coach's 7th season.

If you are pleased with SB's results, more power to you. Whether he deserved a 2 seed is debatable, but it certainly set him up for a favorable path to the semis. He had wrestled Dudley at least twice before. He knew the tendencies. His path into the consis was no different than a couple dozen other guys. It's mental once you lose on the front side. I could have more empathy if he was a freshman. He's not.

you got any eligibility mouth, get in there and take his spot
I'd have to lose 15 pounds and I like my Bud light and chips too much for that to happen.

Seems no different than a few other threads where the coaches get critiqued. Why is an honest discussion about a wrestler getting such scrutiny? Brooks was inconsistent as hell this season. And to a lesser degree, last year too. Looks like an NCAA champ one match and a career backup in another.

This is my last post regarding this wrestler since he's done wrestling this season.

Sorry that I have offended some fans with my opinion, but that's the way I see it.

He was a scramble away from beating Dudley and having a clear path to the finals.time for you to stfu
First, there were few wrestlers who had a "clear path" to the finals, what with all the upsets. Second, what an attitude! Your handle says "retired" --- maybe it's time for you to retire from posting, or do it with some civility and respect! At the very least, chill with your aggressive posts.

My take
Gilman
Clark
Turk
Sorenson
Kermer
Paddock
Meyer
Brooks
Holloway
Stoll, but if he tore his ACL, gotta get that other heavy that just recently retuned form his mission trip ready to go.

Question, has Brands ever started a true freshman before?
Burak wrestled as a true fresh but came in a year after high school as he had been at Olympic training center. So he gets an * for wrestling his first year at Iowa and two years removed from high school.

Derek St. John was considered his true frosh year and

Vallholl had a crazy lineup in which Cory Clark went at 141 his true frosh year and then redshirted his second year at Iowa (which allowed gilman to
Wrestle his redshirt frosh
Year at 125) but that never made it off the message board.

I believe Sorenson and DSJ were given the most consideration in Brand(s) tenure.

I hit like as I'm eating a slice of pizza. But give me 6 months, some eligibility, and some ibuprofen and I'm in.

Mrs. Kwood can make 125 without cutting anything and still have Tarp's pizza. And if you want tough and hard-nosed..........well!!

Right before she walks onto the mat, just whisper in her ear that the other guy thinks she's a bit chunky around the hips and stand back.............:)

Is St. John #2 that good? I watched him lose in high school to a mediocre wrestler. Maybe it was the exception but I feel he is a LONG way from what his brother was. Nothing against the guy, Elite wrestlers just don't usually get outwrestled by average wrestlers.

You are one, pissed off dude today. Seems you are a control freak and don't like people who don't bow to you. Your opinions are yours' alone. I hope you aren't a boss to anyone because I can't imagine someone having to work under such a head case.

People who can't take a little serious criticism don't last long on this forum.

Drink another 12 pack, watch the finals, and come back tomorrow.

That's was totally unnecessary...................

No reason AT ALL to invite him back tomorrow...........o_O

Brooks and Meyer have not exactly scored a lot of team points where they are. I think it is an easy call to move up and try something new. 13 points between the two of them is not much.
It's better than what they scored last year. Let's hope the 13 is about 25 next year at 74 and 84.

Your right I shouldn't waste my time with such a mouthbreather. Go to carver and see what the real fans think of brooks

Results speak for themselves. It doesn't matter what we think...we're just fans.
Not ripping specifically on SB anymore, but Iowa isn't catching PSU anytime soon with guys that wrestle six spots below their seed.

Most people are this board are respectful of others and use appropriate language - it would be nice if you did the same - thanks. :)
He's not getting the message. I suspect he personally knows a couple of the kids and is insulted that we are giving some deserved criticism.

95% of the people posting here are likely big wrestling fans who are just frustrated that this team, outside of Gilman, is so offensively challenged.

From what I've been interpreting, Kem and AM are coming in as more offensive guys. Problem is Iowa loses a lot of firepower after next season. I think there is still reason for hope, but after what I saw this week, Lee AND Berge are an absolute MUST GET pair. If we can't get BOTH, Brands might be feeling the heat.

Agree. EVERY Iowa wrestler should watch the video of Spencer Lee that I watched last week - he has an attitude like Ray Brinzer, Randy Lewis, Cary Kolat, David Taylor ---- "I just love going out there to wrestle and score points!" I sooo badly want Lee to come to Iowa, AND for him to infect everyone on the team!! :)

Come on Mitch. You're a better observer than that. Sammy got a gift for a seed. He should have been somewhere between 5th and 12th seed.

Yeah, Brooks was ranked 7th and finished about where most knowing people expected. On balance, our guys all finished at or above expectations.

This tournament was lost long before this weekend.

Very true and that is the issue. We need better guys, we need more than 4 top 4 quality wrestlers to be competitive. If you start with a diamond recruit the likelihood of them becoming diamond performers is really high. Starting with coal recruits only yield an occasional diamond. Starting the tournament with top 4 seeded wrestlers gives you a chance to win. Our top 4 seeds did the job minus Brooks who was over seeded based on having a good big tens, he finished about where he was ranked most of the year. You are not going to win nationals with a team of guys not seeded/ranked to score any points. All the hoping so and so magically wrestles over his head at the big show from a non or low AA seed is a pipe dream most of the time. You can't count on that happening. Top 4 who can bonus is where all the points are at.

The issue is when you get the gift of a #2 seed you have to take advantage. Brooks didn't take advantage and ended up 8th.
