Sitting here watching consos thoroughly disgusted at what I see Penn state has coming back. A lot of holes to fill next year. S Lee is huge but what's a preliminary line up going foreard

25 Laux
33 Happel (hope he makes the drop like Gross choose to this year)
41 Turk
49 Sorenson
57 Kemerer
65 Marinelli
74 Young
84 Cash
97 Holloway
HWT Stoll (way after Midlands)

Solid team but the year after looks like it's time for NO MORE EXCUSES!

25 Lee
33 Teasdale
41 Murin/Happel
49 Happel/Turk
57 Kemerer
65 The Bull
74 Young
84 Cash
97 Warner
HWT Stoll

Does Costello hold the fort down at HWY until Stoll is ready. Otherwise, Holloway isn't seeing 197 again next year.

If Stoll's not able to go, I would prefer to forfeit heavyweight and have Holloway make some noise at 197.

T'dale will be the only true fresh in that lineup, correct?

Agreed. It makes no sense to have Holloway take a lot of losses at hwt and then spend a month or so getting down to 197 for the last few duals of the year.

I think Costello goes until Stoll is fully healthy. One weird thing about Costello is he already has the strength and weight to be a big (although short) HWT.

I doubt they waste a year. Plus Costello isn't ready.

If Holloway is going to be 197 he needs to weigh in there for every match at the start of the year.

Why waste a year of Costello's eligibility just to fill in for Stoll until he's back?

We can also have Bowman fill in at HWT and let Hollaway stay at 97 all year until Sammy is back.

Forgot about Bowman. But I doubt he's able to beat out a 280 pound Costello. I don't see it as wasting a year because he is unlikely a four year starter. Get in there while you can. Besides - no guarantee that Stoll makes it back. Get your best body out there. I still think this team contends in the 3-5 range next year.

You are not wasting anything with Costello. He is not a blue chip, we are not counting on him to be the starter for 3 or 4 years, at least we better not be. Besides he can redshirt the next year when Stoll is a Sr.

Won't happen. Heard the same argument about Young this year.

The idea that we shouldn't depend on Costello in 3-4 years is ridiculous. He was intermats #8 HWT. He's every bit as good of a prospect as Wilcke and it looks like we have something there.

Stoll has 2 year left ya? why not put costello out next year till Stoll is healthy then have him redshirt the next year when Stoll is a Senior? I maybe wrong and I don't post much mainly lurk but that would give Holloway the ability to go at 197??

I don't think I ever remember our wrestlers getting stuck so many times in one tourney.

Next years line-up looks to have 6 potential AAs plus some ?marks. If they improve all year we could have a decent team. Wilcke proved this weekend he can be a contender for AA at 184. If Hollaway can make 197 who knows there as well. He wrestled hard at heavy. Laux at 125 might be a fringe AA as well. It will not be as bad as some think if we stay healthy and Stoll can come back and be effective. I was not counting Stoll in the 6.

Sure hope Stoll can return to the lineup and be a force. Concerned about his ability to remain healthy.

Costello is not even a top 100 recruit, Wilke was 80 to 100 I think so in reality neither one is the level of recruit we need to settle for if we ever expect to win another title. I hope they both are 3 time high AA wrestlers but these are guys you hope can turn into something good. You are making a mistake to depend on them to be stars.

As strange as it may sound, I don't mind it. I thought we wrestled aggressively for most of the tournament. Brooks for example, is a go big or go home guy, I loved watching him for it!
I have to agree with you guys after reading your opinions. I actually meant to post this on the session 5 board. Doesn't fit this thread. Sorry

Yes but if ou watch him he'll be good to go. He's older for his class, same age as Spencer and he dominates!

I agree. If we think we can start competing with PSU again with this new group of recruits, then we need to start thinking we can use them right away if needed. Are we recruiting the same kind of kids as Suriano, nico and retherford? If so, use then if needed, and if they aren't that kind of talent, then we are in trouble and already behind.

So what are we looking at for expectations? Are we going to throw a fit when the Hawks don't take 1st again? (I.e. last night and previous years) Or are we going to be realist and understand that we are wrestling for 2nd? Hawks have 2 AAs returning. Is the expectation of Marinelli to be an AA? A healthy Stoll? How about Wilcke? That would give the hawks 5 AA again which would repeat this year...which the Hawks are sitting in 4th now, can they finish 3rd woth a Clark win and a Heil loss? Or do they get jumped by Mizzou and finish 5th with a Clark loss and a Lavallee win?

So realistically are the Hawks looking at a 2-5 finish next year as well? I'll sit back and read your responses. Thank you.

Forgot to add what what the expectations would be for Young and the rest of the perceived lineup.

The chances of Iowa finishing 1st are greatly lower than they were this year. Realistically we are going to finish 5th at best, but hoping for better of course. We are going to have one of the "worst" Iowa teams in recently history and PSU will have one of their best EVER.

Because conceivably Stoll will be ready to go at some point next season. Then what?

No reason to throw Costello out there for a few relatively meaningless early season duals. Costello is a developmental guy. Starting him as a true frosh is counter to that development. Keep the shirt on until or unless it is determined Stoll can't go.

One response is you don't have a grasp of how scoring works.

Some of you need to be really patient next year. You may not win a match when you come to Rec Hall. PSU is going to be crazy good next year...IF...they stay healthy.

I am not flaming or trolling, that is a real fact. BUT....the year after is where I see you having the potential to challenge for the Natty! Be patient, the Brands are working hard at upgrading their recruiting. They just need a little time to harvest the fruits of their efforts.

Next year is clearly a rebuilding year and will be fun to watch, but not competitive for the top spot. Murin, Lee and Warner will be redshirting.

Kem and Sorensen = high AA. Prob 2nd each
Bull = Mid AA
Young, Wilke, Turk = Non AA to Low AA
Stoll = mid to high AA if healthy
Laux, Happel = Qualifiers, could be low AA if the cards fell right
197 (Holloway/Bowman) = Qualifier hopefully

Optomistically as many as 9 AA if Stoll healthy. Realistically as few as 3. Fourth place would be an awesome finish for next year. More likely 5-10.

The following year we could have as many as 10 AA. Lee, Teasdale, Happel, Turk , Kem, Marinelli, Young, Wilke, Warner and Stoll all solid AA prospects (or other if they can beat out these possible starters).

If Iowa cannot compete for the title in 2 years then we can all panic (more)...

125-Lee (Fr)
133-Teasdale (Fr)
141-Murin (Fr)
149-Turk (Jr)
157-Kemerer (Jr)
165-Marinelli (So)
174-Young (So)
184-Wilke (Jr)
197-Warner (Fr)
Hwt-Stoll (Sr)

Only TWO Iowans in that lineup I believe. But look at PSU that same year.

125-Suriano (Jr)
133-Cortez (So)
141-Lee (Fr/So)
149-Berge (Fr/So)
157-Nolf (Sr)
165-Joseph (Sr)
174-Hall (Jr)
184-Nickel (Sr)
197-Cassar (Jr)
Hwt-Nevills (Sr)

Scary ****ing good as well.

Iowa may be "ready" the year after, but PSU will still reload.

After Wilcke's showing this weekend a weight up I would call him a likely AA at 184. Young and a healthy Turk as well. I agree though our AAs will probably be mid to lower though. Without Stoll i think we will get 6-7. A couple of our guys may be pleasant surprises.:)

Plus both Ohio St and Michigan will be very good. Michigan's red shirts from this year are going to make them extremely tough.
