Nicholas Baer

It doesnt get the same notice but its still a part of college athletics.
Nicholas is now a two-time Academic All-B1G.
We've been very fortunate on this side of things.

It doesn't, but given academics is kind of the point of going to college (I know, novel concept, right, Forrest?), it should get more attention.

Congrats to Mr. Baer!

Thank you for bringing notice to this. We, as fans, need to appreciate these guys who bust their tail in the classroom and in games. With all of the shady stuff going on across the entire college athletics landscape it is a breath of fresh air knowing we are running a clean program with genuinely good kids.

I believe JU and MG both earned this honor as well, but am not 100% sure. Bottom line is it's nice to sit back and appreciate things like this because it makes the program look outstanding. Not to mention he stuffs the box score on a nightly basis. What Baer does on and off the court is not taken for granted!

and it should be noted just because someone isnt an All-Big 10 Academic player doesnt mean they dont do a good job with school...obviously not everyone is an academic star....the fact they keep themselves eligible is note worthy. Fran's track record with the young guys he has brought in has been exceptional.

as well the student services provided does a heck of a job...working with the student athletes'''no reason for anyone to get in trouble with school work as long as they take it seriously and it seems Fran has recruited guys that understand that.

Garza and Nunge, both had offers from Ivy League school Princeton. Garza also had one from Columbia.

I remember back when Fran was recruiting Evan Boudreaux that McCaffery said something to this effect, "I like recruiting kids like this because you don't have to worry about them. They are either in class, studying, or on the court working on their game. You win with these kinds of players." Boudreaux kind of slow played us while his stock went up and down, and eventually I believe he found out his offer had expired. (That's my guess anyway) I recall some hurt feelings and a nasty comment or two.

He ended up at Dartmouth. Another Ivy League school. Was ranked by Bleacher Report as the 13th most complete player in college basketball. Lead the league in rebounding the past two seasons. Last year scored 17.5 ppg. First Team All Ivy League....He's got two years left! I know it's not the Big Ten but I think we'd have liked him as a Hawkeye.

Very excited for Baer to enjoy his honors. And I am so very happy we've enjoyed guys that are good students.

Btw, I don't know why, but Nicholas kinda looks like the singer from the 80s group Pet Shop Boys. Anyone else see the resemblance? Lol.
