Nice inside-outside LBer combination.

I think the staff is putting together a solid class so far. Good to see.

What we need is a few high three star or four star guys that have MAJOR offers. I don't have a problem going for a few diamonds in the rough, but when the majority of the class has Iowa as their only major offer then there is a problem IMO.

You do realize that both the players the OP have mentioned have multiple high D1 offers, right? Probably a misplaced post in this specific thread.

Iowa still has a long way to go in terms of improving recruiting (if you are basing it off of stars which in reality usually proves to be accurate). With that said, this is the 2nd linebacker in this class who chose Iowa over Wisconsin. It's a small step forward but it is at least a step.

Also, I think it's important to remember Ferentz didn't resurrect Iowa football with four and five start recruits when he put together an undefeated Big Ten season in 2002. Yes, I think in all likelihood Ferentz has gotten too comfortable over the years with his system and recruiting. Yes, I do agree that Ferentz has not been living up to reasonable expectations, especially after signing the large contract. However, especially with the favorable schedule Iowa has this season, Ferentz is due for another surprise season. If he is willing to make adjustments and tailor his system to get the most out of the talent he has and to adapt to the modern style of play, a successful season may help improve the talent coming in and get the program moving steadily in the right direction.

However, I will say at this point in his coaching career there is serious doubt that he can or will. In other words, if Iowa has another mediocre season (6-6, 7-5, or whatever) then I think Ferentz should indeed humble himself and agree to step down. I have no idea of the logistics as far as contract buyout etc., but I will definitely be in agreement that he needs to go. My hope is this situation will be somewhat similar to Joe Paterno at Penn State (sans the child abuse scandal). Paterno seemed to have gotten comfortable and lax and strung together some mediocre seasons that got Penn State fans grumbling. He proved that he was able to adjust and got Penn State back to national relevance (until of course the child abuse scandal). I hope Ferentz can do the same at Iowa. However, if Ferentz doesn't get it done this year, then I'm in agreement it's definitely time to start looking for his replacement.

Iowa's class is currently ranked 10th in the Big Ten.

Incorrect, 34th in the country, which is an improvement at this point, and 9th in the Big Ten. That number is going to fluctuate as new commits come in. Frankly, it's about where most Ferentz teams are in terms of national rank, probably a little higher than usual. Generally they end up on average around 35-40 or in that neighborhood. The one outlier year was probably 2005.

Iowa has been in the 50s the past 3 years and will end up in the 50s again this year. Unacceptable for the Iowa program.
Trying to rank recruiting classes in June is an exercise in futility. A much better and more accurate indicator of the strength or weakness of a class of new recruits is how they perform after arriving on campus.

Could be worse ISU still has zero commits compared to a dozen after Hockenson committed. But got to love LB recruits with niemann and Taylor and maybe even wade.

Hopefully With 12 commits Iowa can start trying to make a play for some bigger names. Also think wr and cb 2 positions Iowa will be looking to hit.

17, I agree, Wade would be another very good LBer candidate.

Really like how Taylor and Neumann close to the ball.

Iowa's recruiting class is now ranked 29th in the country and 7th in the Big Ten after the commitments on Saturday evening. Very close to moving up one more spot right now. Of course, the standings will change and a rise/drop will occur as other prospects commit, but this is where we are at this point with 14 commits.

No, he has that post copied already and just pastes it in periodically
