I just heard there was a vote today. Was this a final vote where a casino would have happened if approved or was this some preliminary vote?
I believe this is what you meant to say.You gamble with your own life when you drive I-380.
The only reason they allowed casinos in Iowa in the first place was an attraction to draw out of state money. It never had anything to do with capitalism. Once the state saw how many out of state people visited Tama Casino, they wanted that tax revenue.Meh, if CR got one I wouldn't have used it anyway. Although, I have heard many have good restaurants. Corbett had said earlier this summer that he doubted any of the 3 options would pass, so I'm not surprised.
My only beef with the licensing board voting against CR is the concept of 'cannibalization' from other casinos. That seems like a disingenuous reason in a nation that supports capitalism.

Suck it, "second city".
Quaker doesn't smell bad, unless you have something against oatmeal.not if you know what you are doing.
But, by in cedar rapids with all them gangs and disease from foul smelling quaker oats plants you can catch the dead. Like Omaha.
3, 2, 1, 4Cedar Rapids beats QC again. Have fun with these hotties...
You gamble with your own life when you go to Cedar Rapids.
I wonder how many casinos Iowa can make profitable. For Cedar Rapids: Meskawki to the West, Isle of Capri to the Northwest, Riverside to the South. Not to mention the new one in Davenport and Prairie Meadows in Des Moines. Lots of gambling options out there. How many degenerates are there to flush their income and savings down the toilet?Suck it, "second city".

It's ADM that smells bad.
Funny you mention gangs. The local police for some reason absolutely refuse to call them gangs. They're 'associations' or some such nonsense.
Chicago transplants have certainly made certain areas in CR worse. I will not disagree with that. However, it's still by and large a decent small city. I have no qualms living there.
Meh is right. Back in the day CR was the first choice for a Paramutual Horse Track which they turned down. Then when the idea to have legalized gambling came along, CR was given a chance to have one of the first gaming facilities. They turned that down as well. So, screw CR (Iowa City had a chance for a casino as well after CR turned it down).
I live in CR and while totally ambivalent about the prospect of a casino, those who voted against it in the first place but now want it (e.g., many of our local leaders) have to reap what they sowed.THIS! It makes me laugh every time those dumbasses get shot down now.
Before Riverside Casino went in, they wanted to put it in CR. The good folks of CR said "Oh nooooo, we're a family city with morals and values and we don't want that casino bringing in whores and degenerate gambers"
Then they saw the money train come to Riverside and were like now we want a casino. Have no sympathy for them getting denied.

You have to admit Mt. Trashmore can get pretty ripe, especially those warm and humid days with almost no breeze.Foul smelling? You, sir, haven't experienced Crunch Berry day.
I will say, though, that while the money it gives to non-profits is good, and it does help fill city coffers, it also creates a TON of problems with bankruptcy, addiction and embezzlement.THIS! It makes me laugh every time those dumbasses get shot down now.

I agree. The other interesting tidbit of the Diamond Jo Worth was that Queer, err, Clear, Lake was the preferred choice for the site and the arrogant residents said it would hurt the city's reputation. Thus, it ended up west of Northwood, and the rest is history. If Lake residents were to give an honest answer, I bet the view would be different now. It's been an absolute god send for Worth County.I think it sucks somw areas benefit greatly from a casino and others are denied.
I think all the kids in Lake Mills school district get a huge scholarship when they graduate and a gift card every year for school supplies,
In 2009 every graduating senior in Worth County That was there for junior and senior years got a little over $6000 in scholarships.
IMO all the casino profits should be gathered up and each citizen of Iowa should get a check.
The state shouldn’t play God unless it is fair.
Yeah but not where casinos are concerned. Most other states with casinos are as protective of the existing casinos as Iowa is. The only exceptions are Nevada and New Jersey. States like Iowa are still slightly embarrassed about licensing a sinful activity and feel a little better if they put weird restrictions in place like they do with alcohol.Meh, if CR got one I wouldn't have used it anyway. Although, I have heard many have good restaurants. Corbett had said earlier this summer that he doubted any of the 3 options would pass, so I'm not surprised.

All I know is the QC area has a ton of embezzlement cases from public and private companies alike, and 9 times out of 10, it seems to come back to gambling addiction.I would be interested to see comparison numbers on bankruptcy, addiction, and embezzlement around the Riverside area before and after the casino's arrival.
I can't say I think there are a TON of problems with it. You certainly don't hear about it if there are...
That tends to be the war cry of the casino naysayers than an actual measurable result of their introduction.
Well sure, but if there is a chance that there will be a little more saturation, Gary wants to be the one doing it. His closest casino is in Clinton and presumably would not be "cannibalized" a whole lot by a casino in CR. Pretty sure Gary wouldn't mind putting another casino within a couple hundred feet of one of his as long as he owns the second casino. They're money machines. There was a Wild Rose proposal? How weird, Kirke was so adamant that Iowa was over-saturated and other (see: his) Casinos would be cannibalized. Surely the situation changed since the last time he was torpedoing the proposals.
