Flo has listed Hall's official visits, and none are to Iowa City. I think most of us had figured he wasn't coming, but this pretty well cements it. Officials are to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Penn State and Ohio State. My guess from the beginning has been Nebraska, but a LOT of people are saying it's Ohio State.

Austin Gomez of Illinois has committed to Iowa State, per Andy Hamilton's Twitter. Gomez is a good get and has beaten Hawkeyes recruit Jason Renteria a few times recently.

solid get for ISU. Hall = no surprise. Time to move on but still shocking we can't even get an official visit.

Folks,

Has anyone thought that Hall is just trying to throw everyone off? He's close to Metcalf. He's made an unofficial to Iowa. Who says MN is an official. Might be wishful thinking, but I wouldn't be 100% surprised if he ended up in IC. Flip side, if he doesn't come what does everyone think about Brands declaration that we'll love what M* brings in for this class - remind you that statement was after we already had two studs for the year comitted.

Yea,
Been pretty quite on the recruiting front here. Feel like the last kid waiting to get his present at Christmas and hoping it's not a pair of socks.
All the while, watching PSU play with their Red Ryder Rifle.
You gotta believe Brands and M* got something up their sleeve, but I have no delusion in believing Hall will be a Hawkeye. No inside info, just reading the writing on the wall. So sorry Flo, I won't be watching in anticipation of your big Hall announcement. Best of luck to Hall though, kid's going to be a world beater.
I guess what I'm really curious about is where do we find someone to compete or even beat Hall in the future? Maybe Marinelli if he grows big enough? Any indications from Breske or K. Moore?

Great get for ISU. Gomez has been one of my favorite wrestlers to watch since he was 9 or 10 years old. Kid is fun to watch, gets after it and is never out of a match regardless of score.

*Gomez beat Renteria the last time they wrestled (state finals) with a throw on the edge in the waning seconds of a match Renteria was winning. Leading up to that Renteria had beaten Gomez the previous 3 times they wrestled, including the week before the Gomez win.

I guess we will have to wait and see what Paddock brings to the table. Expect to see him at 165 the next two seasons and going to 174 when Marinelli comes in. He's a solid wrestler. 2X New York State champ, Fargo double AA his senior year. 1st in Greco (160) and 3rd in freestyle (170) only losing to the champ Rodgers and it was a good match. He didn't have a great RS year at 174, but he looked smaller then most of his opponents. I think right now he is better suited for 165 and with a few more years in the room with Rutt will grow into a nice 174. Also it looks like Kalab young is still growing. Could also see him at 174 since 157/165 look to be Kemerer/Marinelli spots in the future. Go Hawks!

i'll take j-rent all day long, good recruit for isu .but I'm pretty happy with our 2 jays
I agree with this. And based on who he'll have in the room once he hits campus, I think the college results will mirror Clark/Meeks to date.

I said this in another thread, but smokescreen. He wants the announcement to be big.

He is sitting at a table with those 5 hats in front of him. All you see from the camera is the top half of his shirt and tie behind the table. When it is time to select, he then pushes the table over as he stands up and the hats go flying. You then see that he's wearing the shirt and tie over a singlet and wrestling shoes. He then rips off the tie and pulls the shirt....buttons go flying everywhere...revealing a black Hawkeye Singlet underneath.

The crowd goes crazy, the internet goes crazy, it's repeated all night long on SportsCenter.

Mark is way too low key to do something like this, but it would be hilarious

And then a curtain falls to reveal Spencer Lee on one knee in front of his girlfriend, and THEY'RE wearing Hawkeye singlets too, and Spencer slips an Iowa class ring on her finger and asks her to marry him, and she says yes, and then he dives in for a low single, but she counters by backing off the stage in the Mike Evans style, and then the Brands brothers come flying in like those monkeys in the Wizard of Oz. What a day it will be!

:( ...this again?

Good stuff.

Yeah, the Hall ship has sailed, for whatever reason. Disappointing, but move on. Don't be all Molly Ringwald about it.

I agree that Gomez is a great get for ISU--and Renteria is as good or better a get. Interesting that a lot of projected future lineups from Hawk fans have some combination of Mejia/Lee/Happel/Turk among the first three weights...folks, don't count out Renteria.

Last word: we were lucky last summer to get advance commits. We got some Christmas presents early.

Congrats to Gomez but this is an Iowa site. We need a different picture there IAwrestle!

The comment by Gomez about the Paulsens is a little strange to me. They're not going to be his room coaches unless someone has a massive weight change. Does ISU not have a paid asst. for the lighter weights? ISU hasn't had any consistency on the bottom end for a very long time. Even Hall couldn't repeat his flash in the pan performance from 2014.

From a ratings standpoint... it's a very nice commitment. But ISU fans might want to temper their expectations given KJ's results to date.

Obviously Austin Gomez is a stud. He beat Renteria and Cade Olivas. Pretty solid resume. But I gotta take a shot at his interview where he says the reason he picked Iowa St is the fact that Kevin Jackson is the best wrestling coach in the country. I don't believe Jackson has a top 5 team finish yet. I'm sure everyone on this board could rattle off 20 coaches who are better that Jackson. Things are looking up in Ames however though with some solid recruits coming in. Gomez will be a great rival for whatever lightweight Hawk he meets up with. (Renteria, Mejia Lee (fingers crossed).

You really want to take issue with his interview because he's sticking up for his coach?

Best of luck to Austin. He's a tough competitor and likes to mix it up with the crowd. Hopefully he injects a little excitement into the Iowa-ISU dual meet series, even if only for one match.

Happy for him, but I love the kids we have coming in to battle him and like our chances.

I'll have what you are having!

Welp...I'm willing to let them have their moment with Gomez w/o trying to downplay it. Success at the national level and a possible 3Xer in a tough state.I hope he has success at State because I'd hate to see good talent go to waste.

Agreed. The better ISU is the better Iowa Wrestling is for me. LOVE the wrestling rivalry, even though the Hawks kind of own them. So many GREAT duals with them, and memorable moments for all involved. I still think Jackson should be gone, but nobody asked me.
