Non-Hawkeye recruiting news (unfortunately including Mark Hall)

Is it just me or does anyone else's blood boil listening to gomez talk about the hawks. I personally do not care to see this kid succeed at state.

It's as if some of you expect a high school kid excited about his commitment to say "yeah, my new coach is mediocre and I'll probably be a bust." Honestly....
Man, when did this board get so soft on our rivals? Where's wehate and (dare I say) Queso when I need some backup on KJ being a TERRIBLE coach. Gomez is a top tier talent, I hope that talent isn't wasted in Ames.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Iowa State has become relatively irrelevant in college wrestling-- they are not a rival to Iowa in any way and haven't been since KJ has been head coach. I wish ISU was a powerhouse and Iowa vs ISU would be something fans would get excoted about.

Obviously Austin Gomez is a stud. He beat Renteria and Cade Olivas. Pretty solid resume. But I gotta take a shot at his interview where he says the reason he picked Iowa St is the fact that Kevin Jackson is the best wrestling coach in the country. I don't believe Jackson has a top 5 team finish yet. I'm sure everyone on this board could rattle off 20 coaches who are better that Jackson. Things are looking up in Ames however though with some solid recruits coming in. Gomez will be a great rival for whatever lightweight Hawk he meets up with. (Renteria, Mejia Lee (fingers crossed).

That is hilarious. Not to mention driving a power wrestling school like ISU into the ground his record with USA wrestling was awful too. ISU and Iowa was a great rivalry before KJ. ISU is now on the same level as Grand View and UNI. The last two top 15 light weights under KJ have ended up at Grand View.

Good luck to Gomez, but his comment is wayyyyy off..

I hope thomsen takes him to but he is supposed to come in praising his coach and talking crap about iowa

I may not have read the thread thoroughly enough, but what comments did Gomez make about Iowa that has angered some of you? I would find it odd he would bash Iowa when Ramos is from the same h.s. as Gomez.

It's amazing how petty some people are on this board. Gomez is a high school rival of a hawk commit (Renteria), and wrestled against an Iowa Commit at Iowa against the world (Mejia). He commits to an in-state rival and praises the coaches of the school he commits to (every recruit does this). Why in the hell would he sing Iowa's praises? What has he done that's out of line? He's a high school kid that is saying things in the heat of the moment, and we have a bunch of 50 year old arm chair quarterbacks that can't wait to tear him down.

I'm here brother. I agree that KJ is a horrible coach but ISWho isn't even on the national radar any more. I'm more concerned with the job M* is doing on the recruiting front for the Hawks. :)

I guess I would say because not everyone cares about being politically correct and some like to say what they think on this HAWKEYE message board.
I'm not sure why you think everyone on here is a 50. I can't speak for everyone, but I'm not even close.

People making stupid comments has nothing to do with political correctness. It has to do with them being petty and stupid

#1 Welcome back Wehate. Missed you my friend. #2 I'm also not 50 (39, but my wife tells me I look much younger:rolleyes:) #3 I simply pointed out my OPINION that young Mr. Gomez's comment on why he said he committed to Iowa St is silly. He said that he committed because Kevin Jackson is the best coach in the country. Silly! Obviously he's not. Not even close. How many lightweight AA's has Kevin Jackson produced? I can't think of any. How many lightweight talents have gone to Ames and their talent been squandered? I can think of a few. Gomez seems like a heck of a kid and supremely talented, it makes feel for kids when their talent is wasted. I mean Mark Perry has waaaaaaay more success coaching lightweights than KJ and that's in Gomez's backyard. #4 I didn't hear him say anything about Iowa that I thought was out of line. (he knows that if he did say something out of line, Spencer Lee would make him pay for it in a couple years .:p #5 Ease up 1stplace no need to resort to personal insults. Chopper's a friendly.

It's common for people to applaud the people close to them. Would you also find fault in him calling his girlfriend the best girlfriend ever? Or his mom the best mom ever? Y'all are gettin worked up about nothing.

Yes. If his girlfriend sucked at being his girl and everyone knew it but he married her anyway. That's actually a great analogy. Thanks grappler 6

so because you feel KJ sucks at coaching, that means everyone should share that same opinion? I bet Kyven feels KJ is a great coach, as do many others that attend IA state. "Greatness" is a subjective term. I apologize not everyone shares your opinion. I apologize that Gomez is excited about his future.

And yet you were worked up enough about it to put in your .02 cents. Pot meet Kettle.

FWIW I was over it from the start. Why? Because I don't care.

Over it and don't care, yet u felt the need to add your .02 cents. Kettle meet pot.

I was "worked up" cuz people are dumb enough to criticize a kid for saying something complimentary of his coach he just committed his future and 5+ years to. What do you expect? I guess common sense is not so common. #mybad

And somehow your "common sense" kicked in and you decided to put your Gopher .02 cents in on an Iowa board, where people clearly don't give a shit what you have to say. I think your and my definition of common sense is considerably different. That's fortunate, if you're me.

Ya cuz Gomez committing had so much to do with the Gophers....

You don't care what I have to say, yet you acknowledge my statements and respond to them. Does this site have a block option? If so, you have the ability to perminantly disregard everything I say since you don't give a shit. However, I presume you will choose to engage in my "anti-Iowa" convos in the future and still bitch about me posting. To which I will again refer you to blocking me. I will talk wrestling with whoever.

I follow more than just my team and actually respect many other programs, wrestlers, coaches and fans. One being Iowa, as my wife and in laws are from Iowa. Spent many hours on Saturday night of national duals chatting with Matt McDonough's dad, Shane Sparks and Jim Gibbons. Discussed a lot of Iowa Wrestling and many other programs/individuals throughout the nation. Wrestling is a great sport, so I always try to follow as much as possible.

Is the pissing match over yet? This isn't the first time we have engaged in one. I have no issue with u. I am going to continue to post on this site. Thanks for the warm welcome! (Take my posts with sarcasm, unless you just want to get upset then disregard sarcasm ;) )

I said this in another thread, but smokescreen. He wants the announcement to be big.

He is sitting at a table with those 5 hats in front of him. All you see from the camera is the top half of his shirt and tie behind the table. When it is time to select, he then pushes the table over as he stands up and the hats go flying. You then see that he's wearing the shirt and tie over a singlet and wrestling shoes. He then rips off the tie and pulls the shirt....buttons go flying everywhere...revealing a black Hawkeye Singlet underneath.

The crowd goes crazy, the internet goes crazy, it's repeated all night long on SportsCenter.
You guys are funny !
