Notre dame

ND wins out they are in. Alabama and LSU game this weekend...the loser will fall below ND.

Clemson loss would be interesting because they beat ND.

If Iowa loses a game they will be out of the playoff. They just don't play anyone that can boost their resume enough from here.
If Iowa has one loss, gets to the CCG and wins that, I still think the committee goes with other 4.
If that scenario happens it won't bother me at all. Would be one of best seasons ever for the Hawks.

If you assume that the committee is looking to find the best four teams for the playoff, then Notre Dame probably doesn't bump a conference champ. However, once you realize that the objective is to have "compelling match-ups" or what have you, then Notre Dame is a lock. The playoff system has little or nothing to do with football. It has EVERYTHING to do with making money. Notre Dame draws eyes, some due to admiration, others due to hate. The key is that people watch them. The committee wants Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama and Notre Dame. Clemson is first out if they lose. They want name schools. There are ads to sell...

Would a 1 loss ND team get in over a 1 loss power 5 champ?
Not over an SEC champ, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and MAYBE Stanford or Florida State/Clemson (depending on the loss). Everyone else would be out of luck, including Iowa.

I do not agree. The CFP rankings last year proved to be much more fluid than traditional rankings. If you have an undefeated Big 12 champion, undefeated Big 10 champion, and Clemson and either LSU or Alabama win out, then I don't see any way Notre Dame makes it to the playoff. No way they would leave out a team like TCU or Baylor who still has a lot of difficult games remaining. They obviously wouldn't leave out Ohio State either, and I also don't see them leaving out Iowa if we are 13-0. I will admit that I could see a slim possibility of a 1-loss Notre Dame team beating out Iowa for the playoff, but that would be a huge upset. I can't imagine an undefeated Iowa team not jumping Notre Dame if they potentially beat and undefeated OSU or MSU team while Notre Dame is sitting at home. It wouldn't just be Iowa fans that would be upset if that happened.

There are 4 spots. So, If ND runs the table I think they will deserve one, which means 3 spots for 5 P5 conference champs.

Interesting scenario - tOSU, Baylor, LSU and Clemson all finish undefeated, and ND has one loss - who's out?

My vote would be Baylor.

Notre Dame would be out, no question. They would have to beat Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and TCU on the way to finishing undefeated. Those teams are a combined 23-1. Notre Dame's best wins would be Stanford, and either Pitt, Temple, or Navy depending on how those teams finish.

I don't see any way an undefeated Big 12 team does not get in over Notre Dame.

If Iowa wins out with a win over OSU/MSU, they are in. Despite the negativity now, there will be no argument if we beat a top 3 school at the end of the year and are undefeated. At that point, Wisky will be top 20 as well.

A buddy of mine and I got into a huge argument last weekend over this. He think ND plays a tougher schedule than anything in any BCS power 5 conference. So that's why they are not joining any conferences soon.

I think personally the committee needs to say join a conference or get lost. I don't think its fair that a "independent" gets to schedule their own games and basically can front load or back load their schedule and then play a bunch of nobodies in between.

Regardless if ND does win out they will have beaten Stanford @ Stanford, that is a pretty big win and I would have to say that they probably deserve to be in. I would say they deserve to be in over Alabama if Bama loses this weekend.

Remember the selection committee is made up of conference peop Ie. I tend to think they start ND high and if 4 conference champions finish with 1 loss or less they finish ahead of ND. I think it will be the committees way of saying join a conference. Each of the others will have won a CCG and even if a Big 12 champion of Baylor, TCU, OU or OSU finish with only 1 loss they all have at least 2 very nice wins over the other 3 teams and OU would have 3 very nice wins.

Whats ND's big win at this point? a 3 loss USC team?

Would a 1 loss ND team get in over a 1 loss power 5 champ?

Maybe, but not over an undefeated power 5 champ. A few on here try to claim we might lose out to ND if we go undefeated but I don't see an undefeated Big Ten Champion being left out, ever.

ND schedule looked tough at the start of the year. Unfortunately for them, most of teams on their schedule aren't as good as people thought. They played Clemson tough and came roaring back to make it close. Their best win would be Stanford.....

If Clemson loses ND goes down with them. And actually with their new affiliation isn't selecting Clemson and ND like picking 2 ACC teams
