There is no positive to this. Hawks don't need rest. They need to keep the train rolling.
Nooo!!! There is ZERO benefit to playing really bad teams. If you find a way to lose your metrics get crushed. If you win there is zero benefit. It's always lose-lose.This is BS. Tough luck . They can play walk ons. Let’s replay EIU then. Should have told them we had 3 guys out due to injury and 3 others to Covid. I would like to see the test results
Ain't happening.Barta better offer 2/1 as the makeup day. Take it or leave it NW. I don't give a sh*t if you play Illinois on 2/2.
Actually, Barta should insist on Feb. 6. That's 2 days after a home game with Illinois and 3 days before a road game with Purdue. Northwestern plays at Wisconsin Feb. 5. Make them play another road game with no rest. Barta needs to stand up to the Big 10 and say that is the only date available. The team that cancels needs to make the concessions.
But he won't. He will cave on whatever date NW suggests (which will be convenient for them, inconvenient for the Hawks). Just like he did for the Indiana game.
And why not? NW doesn't get to dictate when the game is rescheduled.....Iowa should. They should not be allowed to schedule at a time convenient for THEM! I could be wrong, but I think this is what Indiana did when they cancelled on us. A day that was good for them, but not good for the Hawks.Ain't happening.
Because they aren't going to force a one day turnaround. And why not? NW doesn't get to dictate when the game is rescheduled.....Iowa should. Agree. Forfeit is clearly what the B1G rules currently state ... it's in black and white. The Big 10 should be stomping this out now. This should be a forfeit straight up.
Really don’t think extra rest is a good thing for a hot team. Fully except ice cold shooting at OSU.
That is not the current policy.Agree. Forfeit is clearly what the B1G rules currently state ... it's in black and white.
2021-22 BIG TEN CONFERENCE FORFEITURE POLICY
Interim Guidance for COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2)
(Adopted and effective from 8/20/21 until rescinded by the Administrators Council.)
- Competition Involving Two Teams. If a team is unable to participate in a scheduled Conference competition due to COVID-19 and as a result the competition is unable to occur on the calendar day on which it is scheduled, the competition shall be considered a forfeit by the team unable to participate and shall not be rescheduled. In such case, the team unable to participate shall be assessed a “loss,” its opponent a “win,” and Conference standings shall be adjusted accordingly.
I highly doubt Barta reschedules without input from Fran.I like this idea better than 2/1. But expect Barta to bend over and take whatever NW requests, because he's spinless
I have a thought that Fran "played nice" in this situation. There is some possibility that the conference told Fran it should be a forfeit, and Fran said "let's work something out".
We don’t want a forfeit. Why does everyone assume Fran didn’t agree to the postponement?
ASU women recently was "forced to forfeit" 2 games because of player shortage...
Arizona State forfeits 2 games due to lack of healthy players (yahoo.com)
I understand that is a difference conference...but would love to know if Iowa is just being 'nice' to NW by postponing & looking to reschedule or if the conference is directing this?
The article makes reference to UConn's women also being short players & they just postponed a game with DePaul...

My point is.....Iowa should have the final say in when the game is played.....not Northwestern. And it should not be in a situation that favors Northwestern. Barta/Fran need to play hardball on this, not Mr. Nice Guy.Because they aren't going to force a one day turnaround.
Good post 83 Hawk.....This is where Barta needs to take a stand. He needs to insist it be scheduled in the middle of one of Iowa's longer breaks. Northwestern chickened out....they should NOT be given a reschedule that favors them and screws Iowa. If that means they have to play on 1 day's rest.....too bad.
Unfortunately I feel the Hawks will get screwed like they did when Indiana cancelled against us several years ago.
I'll just stop you right there until I can quit laughing. This is where Barta needs to take a stand. He needs to insist it be scheduled in the middle of one of Iowa's longer breaks. Hey.....I can dream, can't I?I'll just stop you right there until I can quit laughing.
I think it’s gonna be 2/7. 1 full day of rest of them, 2 full days of rest for us. We will have been home in Iowa City since the evening of 1/26. They will be coming off a road game then have to come to IC and go to Columbus next. Works for meAin't happening.
I'm pretty sure that you can fire anyone or anything, except an OC of course.I say the prudent thing to do would be to fire Northwestern from the Big Ten.
Is that legal?.......Can we fire a basketball team?
Lol. I'm certain the guy famous for only making bad decisions wont possibly allow this to be some idiotic scenario like playing 3 games in 5 days when fighting for a tourney berth. Maybe he can throw the long awaited evaluation of the loser offensive coordinator that is still technically his direct subordinate as a distraction during that time.Agree. Barta needs to play hardball here.

What about the fans who may only have tickets to this game? What about season ticket holders who lose a game? Does Iowa refund all the money for the game?Teams should have to forfeit when they cannot play. There is a specific schedule for a reason. Play the game or forfeit the game and whatever percentage of Big Ten income they earned from the game gets divided up among the other teams.
