I guess National Player of the Year comes down to the best dunker against weak A10 teams and not the actual player of the year.

The winner was just announced on CBS Sports HQ.

The 5 finalists were:
* Luka Garza, Iowa
* Obi Toppin, Dayton
* Udoka Azubuike, Kansas
* Myles Powell, Seton Hall
* Payton Pritchard, Oregon

The Top 2 Candidates:

Full Season Stats:

Points/Game
23.9--Garza
20.0--Toppin

REB/Game
9.8--Garza
7.5--Toppin

Versus AP Ranked Opponents? It is not even close.

How does CBS HQ not have any video highlights of Garza but yet the other 4 do?

I had a feeling this was going to happen. Just effin ridiculous. Obi definitely has more pro potential, but Garza had a better season in BY FAR the toughest conference in the country. And if I'm not mistaken, I think he averaged around 26/game against ranked opponents, and we had 7 wins against ranked opponents.

Safe to assume the Wooden will go to Toppin too, unfortunately.

Naismith, from Kansas, where the Basketball program is under investigation.
May not be a coincidence??
Just bogus by the Naismith 'voters':mad:

The difference is between 11 and 2, Dayton had the better record then Iowa. Dayton would have been a 1 seed and Iowa a 5, 6, or 7 seed. It's not rocket science....

So you're saying you think Dayton would have won the Big Ten title? You're saying that playing the likes of Richmond, Rhode Island, Duquesne, Davidson, UMass, et al. is the same as playing Maryland, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Purdue, Indiana, and Minnesota? You, sir, are a spin doctor of the highest order.

Iowa would have won Dayton's piddly little conference without losing a game, and Garza would have AVERAGED 35 points and 18 rebounds.

You can call the earth flat if you want, but it sure as hell doesn't make it true.

As others have noted, Iowa beat seven ranked teams this season. How many did Dayton and the mighty dunker beat? If it's all about the dunks, Tyler Cook should have been POY last year.

There is no objective way that anyone can make a convincing case that someone other than Luka Garza was the college player of the year.

And as I've pointed out before in this context, if you want to know how fair awards are, remember that Todd Lickliter has a trophy that says, once upon a time, he was the national coach of the year.

Believe it or not, I'd be saying the same thing if Garza wore an Indiana jersey. I realize we don't live in a world where facts matter or where qualifications are valued, but we should. And in such a world, Luka is player of the year. Period.

Hi everyone. Just checking in to make sure everyone is doing ok.
Also, obi beat Garza again if you didn’t hear. Maybe he should transfer to Dayton next year

Not only this, but the Big Ten had the most and best big men in the country as well, Virtually every game he played Luka was going against a big man that was pretty dang good....

No twitter. I am just happy we had a player be 1st team AA. And a team to make the tourney when nobody expected it. And little brother have a total dumpster fire in all sports. Best football team was a joke, worst b-ball in 40 years, wrestling can’t recruit, Pollard cutting funds except his bridge and Iowa being 17-3 over ISU. That’s all.

Legend doesn’t quit. Good work. Get a life and stop following me you sick person.

And you won't quit bringing up ISU in threads that have nothing to do with them.

And you accuse me of following you when you post in a thread that I've already posted in? I'd ask you if you realize how dumb that is, but I already know the answer.

These post season awards have no merritt anymore.... all they are, are just talking points to help affirm whatever their own biasness is.... the awards never go to the best player anymore, it's just the player that will generate the most buzz and with the AP and Naismith choosing Toppen, when everyone else chose Garza as their POY, it just generates buzz and talking points because if Garza swept then no one would be talking about it because it would be too unanimous

So tell us Legend why do clown fans celebrate Toppin winning awards as much as Dayton fans?

I’ve still not a heard a legitimate reason why obi deserves it over Garza.
Well I certainly wouldn't be holding your breath for that since there is no explanation. I'm sure the couple of Dayton posters will be here soon with their drival, and reasoning, none of which had anything at all to do with what these awards were supposed to be about. Congrats to Luka none the less for an outstanding record breaking season. Time to move on from this farce that is college awards......
