**Official 2016 Iowa Caucus Thread**

Rand Paul did much better than I thought he would. Good for him! Maybe all but the top 5 will drop out now.

Y'all got some square counties out there in Iowa

makes it easier to know what country you're in. Unlike Kanawha.

C-Span's coverage is positively riveting. One eoman reading numbers to another woman who writes them down on a piece of paper. Then they get out their calculators and start adding up the numbers. At one point one of the women asked another person to go get some masking tape.

I agree with another poster that was surprised how well Cruz is doing in the bigger cities. My Des Moines district had Rubio winning with 63 votes and second place was Cruz with only 18.

The governor was at my site but didn't see who he voted for.

I should note that this was my first caucus and I can't believe the voting process and how loose it was. I registered at the location and they checked nothing. I could have voted without registering as no one was paying attention to the check-in or really checking. I wouldn't be surprised if there is cheating going on in places.

If you're a Republican or Democrat and can go in Iowa, then go participate! I don't care who you're voting for. Go set some records tonight in turnout!

My Ankeny site went 109 to 90 for Hillary. Delegates split 4-4. Big turnout of new dems and voters both.

No way! HuffPo has assured me that election fraud is a total non-issue. Never happens. Nope, nope, nope. Everyone is totally legit when it comes to voting.

Speaking in regaurd to the R's. Listening to various national media comment on the huge turn out and it isn't helping Trump. They seem to be forgetting the anti Trump sentiment.

The evening in this case. The Bernie side was mixed. A good deal of younger people, working class, and some older people.

The old people were told by the lamestream media that Clinton was the only choice. They were not on the Internet seeing the Sanders wave growing.

I'm SHOCKED that Hillary is under 1% over Sanders. There are a lot of Sanders supporters that are young and stayed home tonight because they didn't think it would be this close and were intimidated by the voting process.

Cruz declared the winner.

A lot of surprises in this, it was a weird race. Trump runs REALLY well in Western Iowa including Sioux City where you'd expect Cruz to run well. However, Trump does not run well in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City areas and Cruz runs really well/better than I thought in Eastern Iowa.

I just can't imagine how the Republicans can win the general election this fall. I know the Democrats haven't exactly put an A-list out there, but the three amigos of the Republican party makes Mitt Romney look like the greatest candidate ever.

I (and a whole lot of others) can't imagine how the Republicans can lose the general election.

The "Democrats haven't exactly put an A-list out there"?!

Hint: their situation is much worse than that.

They can lose it by selecting Cruz or Trump. Rubio is by far their best shot at winning the election.

Nah.

Just about anyone who could support Rubio could support Cruz. They are very similar in their convictions.
