With the transfer portal, early outs, there’s so much balance in college basketball these days. If a team is able to gel and get some chemistry as a season goes along, they can make some noise come tournament time.

Houston is super talented but they make a ton of dumb plays.

Both of those coaches have ties to Matt Painter, Lutz at Purdue and Korn at Southern Illinois, fwiw.

Painter is obviously a good coach. Not surprising that he's had some assistants go off to success.

Lutz is off to Western Kentucky.

The way I heard it explained is that the committee seeds all the teams and then the top X seed plays close to home. So if Iowa would have been the top 8 seed, they'd have played in DesMoines but they weren't. Auburn must have been the top 9 seed.
