*****Official #38 RPI IOWA at #127 RPI Indiana Games Thread (All 3 games are on BTN PLUS)*****

A few things. I always check the Warren Nolan predictions to see what whacky thing it throws out today. Last I looked, it has Iowa getting swept at Indiana and finishing 28-16, yet finishing #29 in the RPI. It’s been pretty consistent with Iowa getting swept this weekend, with the occasional 1-2 series loss.

Wallace is a big factor. I admit I am concerned about the toll of a full season. He’s allowing more guys on base, his velocity is down, and his last two outings have been four innings. It’s something to keep an eye moving forward.

The sweet nectar of a road game with the RPI. With a win, Iowa gains 60 RPI points. With a loss, they lose 19 points.

Then there are indirect games where Iowa gains or loses points based on teams they’ve faced. Iowa benefits most points wise with Minnesota, Nebraska, and Michigan winning.

A little RPI shock value for you as well. Maryland who is #72 hosts Minnesota who is #271. With a win, Maryland loses 39 points. A loss, they lose 129 points. A win literally drops them 10 spots in the RPI before other teams results and indirect result come in. That’s what I hate about the RPI, a team shouldn’t be punished that much if they win. Minnesota loses 0 points if they lose. Remember last week, Northwestern gained 3 points with a loss to Iowa.

Iowa is 14-3 over its last 17 games; from 4-8 to 18-11.

That’s a big win for Iowa, Wallace with a great outing after a couple weeks of struggles. I go to told saying though, one game at a time because that’s all Iowa can do currently.

I think one more win this weekend needs to happen. Take 2/3 and you are looking at 20-12 with an RPI of around #33-#36.

Then you have 12 games vs Penn State, Illinois, Northwestern, Michigan State.
The thing I like about the first two series, is that they are both home. Last 6 games at Duane Banks for the seven seniors. You would love to take 5 or all 6. Go into NW and MSU with a 25-13 or 26-12 record and you feel really good.

Would be nice to maybe give Walley an off weekend vs NW or MSU if possible to rest him for the NCAA Tournament. I personally don't think Irvine, Baumann and Davitt would be a bad rotation vs one of them.

I am getting a little ahead of things, but after this weekend Coach Heller can essentially go to the team and say "It is right in front of you. Four teams near the bottom of the conference. Take care of business and you get to play in the NCAA Tournament."

Wallace won’t get a week off unless Iowa doesn’t play for some reason. The three main starters would be on a routine which includes bullpen sessions.

Tomorrow is the only game that matters to me. I’ve seen too many Iowa teams look ahead in the last few years, but I’ll add that every team left is a tough out in their unique way.

Nebraska goes down 9-4 at home to Rutgers. Iowa creeps to within 2 games I believe of first.
