*****Official #38 RPI IOWA at #127 RPI Indiana Games Thread (All 3 games are on BTN PLUS)*****

Iowa adds 1 run in the 9th and falls 12-8.

IU wins the series 2 games to 1.

Iowa gave up 12 runs yesterday and 12 runs today. It's extremely hard to win baseball games when you have to score at least 13 runs in order to win the game. Iowa's offense is good...but NOT that good.

If you followed this thread, you saw that:

* IU was extremely clutch today with 2 outs.
* Baumann struggled today. His line: 3 2/3 IP, 11 Hits, 7 Runs (ALL Earned), 4 Strike outs

We are now tied with Maryland for 4th in the B1G standings. Maryland beat Minny 6-3 today. They have won 9 of 10 and 6 straight.

Current Records of Iowa & Maryland:
4th in B1G Iowa (19-13)
4th in B1G Maryland (19-13)

Iowa baseball, every mistake is costly. Seems every walk, hbp, or error leads to runs. No D1 team should be giving up double digit runs this consistently.

What started as a promising weekend, ended up as a gut punch. Indiana was so good today and yesterday at getting hits with men on base and with two outs. Extra base hits at that. It eventually came for Iowa, but not before it was too late. Coach Heller is right that it’s very disappointing not to pitch well, because Iowa did some good things against some of the best

Things are extremely tight in the conference now 1st through 6th, anything could literally happen. Iowa will be taking on a Penn State team that has won four in a row. Iowa still has an opportunity, but the margin of error is becoming very thin.

Great summary at the end, Penn State and Illinois are tough outs. Look at Illinois splitting with Michigan this weekend, Penn State has only been swept twice...they’ve won a game in every other series including against OSU, Michigan, Maryland, and two from Rutgers.

I think 5/6 from Penn St and Illinois would be big. That would be 24-14 going into the last two series. Those two are on the road, so the RPI points loss for dropping one wouldn’t be nearly as bad.

We are getting to a point where I have no idea how the teams will be evaluated? Conference finish alone can’t be the lone indicator with unbalanced schedules. Then you have RPI,SOS, and everybody in the top 7 literally beating each other.

I guess I should rephrase. No D1 team with a chance at a conference championship or a chance at a tournament bid. My bad.

I get what you’re saying, but would we be saying this if Iowa say won both Sat and Sun 15-12? Probably not, the conversation is different.

Pitching this weekend was flat out terrible and defense was mediocre. Indiana was scorching hot with the bats and made us pay. Hopefully we can bounce back with a lot of winnable games to close out the season

Saturday was a rough day as we fell behind, 5-0, in the first inning. We had a call go against us that changed the course of the game as much as any I’ve seen. With a runner at second and nobody out Indiana hit a ball into the right center field gap. Adreon ran it down and made a full extension diving catch, spun quickly from the ground, and doubled off the runner at second. The umpire gave up on it and didn’t go out. He stayed on the infield grass and said Zeb didn’t catch it. After a long meeting with the other two umpires, they did not overturn it. We ended up giving up five after that and had to take our starter out in the first.

That was from Heller's email today
