***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

It is amazing what a good commish can do for a league. Exhibit A Adam Silver.
The NBA All Star game, this year, was an utter embarrasment. Every little touch foul was called. The feedback from the masses and the internet was resounding.
From that game on, touch fouls were not called and they allowed a little more physical play. Not Pistons/Bulls physicality, but tighter. No more parading to the foul line every possesion. A better product.
The WNBA could have that same affect if they just got their head out of their asses. The way the game is officiated now rewards physical contact and negates creativity. Simple fix, if they are willing to commit. The fans would sure enjoy the product more.

There is a WNBA commercial that pretty much brags about their rough play. Might take a while to work out this identity.

My hope is that CC retires at the end of the season and the wnba reverts to their old viewership. Serves them right.
She's not going to "walk away" from her dream job, AND that 28 million $ deal with Nike (for 8 years) or the deal she just signed with Wilson to be their face in the W. I'm sure those deals might go poof, if she walked out on the league......

Anyone else have a loading circle of death on the WNBA app? Not that I expected much different but I appreciate paying for a blank screen.

Agree. All Adam Silver has to do is elevator down from the 5th floor to the 1st floor and have a chat. Simple as that.
Or like I said earlier, have a delegation from Nike pay a visit.

Then you could have future trivia questions like:

Q - Who was Teresa Stuck?
A - She was that WNBA referee who called a technical foul on Caitlin Clark in the last game she ever officiated.

Better give Dangerfield the respect she deserves off the bench. 7 PTs and a rebound.

David Stern made the NBA. Perhaps the greatest commissioner of a professional sport in the late 20th century.

So you're asking the WNBA to stop being so physical, but without the officials trying to keep order by calling fouls/enforcing the rules (which they don't currently do anyway)???........................................

Good luck with that. :)

It is damn impressive how Kate has played herself into big minutes for the defending champs.

We were talking about this at the office. There are 6 main things going that have blown 95% of the momentum Caitlin brought with her:
  1. The team sucks from a talent perspective more than I could have imagined. Passes and would-be assists foiled by drops and missed open shots. And then just shooting in general, irrespective of anything Caitlin is doing. Just horrible.
  2. Horrible defense and questionable game management.
  3. Despite 1 and 2 above, the fever are getting every team's "A game" to show Caitlin up. So no one is sleeping on them, and they are picking up Caitlin full court, all game.
  4. Linked to 3 above, the refs are worse than the college refs. Just horribly inconsistent, and it sure seems like they are consciously or subconsciously hazing Clark. Defense like that allowed in WVU game during March Madness is the norm, while she seems to get called for tickytack fouls.
  5. Horrible scheduling for the fever at the beginning of the season cramming so many games in with no rest or time for practice, against most of the best teams in the league.
  6. The commissioner is either weak or unable to effectively communicate that they are all in it together to grow sustained interest in the W. Bad scheduling and bad reffing, and rather than trying to develop a beautiful game with freedom of movement, crisp passing, and great shooting, they have commercials celebrating how physical the W is. Awesome, you have a shitty version of the 1990s Knicks and Pistons, except with no dunking or fights.
This has resulted in a bad product on the court for the fever, and diminishing interest. There are a few of us hardcore fans who tune in, but the others in the office have lost interest or are losing interest. These are big time Iowa fans who just can't take it anymore, and will tune in once the league gets it figured out. By then, most people won't care anymore. At least, not those who were new to the W this year. Rant over.
I have watched some WNBA games and keep wondering if this league wants to survive. Any Park and Rec has better officiating, and the schedule is nonsensical.

It has the look and feel of a subsidized organization. If it had to exist on its own, things would be different, or it would disappear.
