***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

You can't give up 90 points to the Sun and expect to win.
Over the last seven games the Fever have given up an average of 94 a game. Just can't expect to win often with that poor of a defense.

The Fever are dead last in the league in forcing turnovers. Opponents 3P% is 36.1 - only Dallas is worse.

Sides defensive scheme is a sagging, passive mess. It is not a proactive defense, it's a get out of position and chase defense. She has no idea how to cool off a hot shooter. Earlier in the year Clark defended Mabrey very well. What happen today was puzzling.

Bluder was not known as a defensive coach, but Iowa's defense was light years better than this crap.

Sides is a below average coach. And, based on her refusal to take any responsibility for any coaching decisions, it's apparent she thinks she's an elite coach. Dunn needs to sit her down for a talk.

I still hate the fact CC's shot is so broken. Hope she can fix it in the off season.
Lolol.. Do you guys watch the games? She had a bad game. Since the break she's been over 40% from three shooting farther away from the hoop then any female or MALE pro, and been the third leading scorer in the W while averaging 11 assists/gm. You're right though, she's SO broken. Good Lord...

The issue with the Sun is three fold:

1. They are a veteran and experienced team
2. They are bigger than the Fever
3. They are a defensive-minded team

All three of these points go directly against how the Fever operate. They're young, inexperienced in the playoffs, and are strictly an offensive team. I know a lot of people said that the Sun are a good draw, but I don't think there was a good draw at all for the Fever, the Sun are just a lesser evil compared to the Lynx and the Aces.

IMO the only way the Fever win is if they control tempo and play fast. The Sun can't keep up with Fever fast breaks, and they can't let them dictate the pace of the game by going slow.

I have a full season of CC struggling to shoot as proof. Please just go away.

Caitlin is hitting threes at a higher percentage than Allisha Gray, Jackie Young, Diana Taurasi and Sabrina Ionescu. Arike is only .2% better than CC. But, I'm sure, by her standards she's missing too many. Last I looked Caitlin's 2P% is best in the league for a guard. She was 5% points better than Chennedy Carter, who I thought was certainly leading the league.

Caitlin has a significantly higher attempted than 3PA than the top 15, with only three other players being remotely close to her attempts. She shoots in quantity. Her 3PM increased after the season resumed because she had a break for a month. But as time has gone on it's been getting worse. Reaching a crescendo these last few games. Watching her in college as opposed to the WNBA is almost staggering how much different her shots look.

What "schemes"? They have one. Pick & roll at the top of the key. If that doesn't work, the offense usually breaks down in the half court with Mitchell or CC having to create something on their own.
Yes, it's odd that this is the 2nd time I'm aware of, that she's made a statement like that post-game. It's as though she's trying to justify the outcome.

Blame sides all you want. The big 3 all have to be great for them to even have a chance to win, and there’s no way with CC shooting the way she did they’re winning. CC shooting 4-17 and 2-13 from 3 gives them zero chance of winning. I thought she distributed well today. Sun are way way to good if she shoots like that. I will say it didn’t look like we pushed the pace near enough, and I know it’s hard when the other team is scoring all the time, but the Fever push a lot on made baskets normally. Thought they played a bit scared, which honestly I understand.

While I agree with you on the "Big 3" needing to shoot very well, I also must add that when the shots aren't falling, your defense has to be at a sustainable level to keep you in the game. Without good defense, you suck. Plain and simple.

Including today, in the last five games Hull is 0-2, 0-1, 0-1, 0,1, and 1-2 from three. What the hell happened? She is passing up open shots she should be taking repeatedly. She’s either been told to pass them up or she’s lost confidence in shooting them. But why would she have lost her confidence? She was red hot until she just plain stopped shooting. I don’t get it.

Christy Sides has explained this - "teams are going to scheme against Caitlin, Kelsey, and Hull; they're going to do everything they can to make sure someone else takes that three." This was her explanation for setting up Boston to take a last second three against the Aces. Yesterday Boston shot a 3 pointer with 14 seconds on the shoot clock. She's got the green light because the Sun won't expect it. Sides is brilliant.

Yeah, I get your tongue in cheek here. I could accept that to a degree, except that Lexie has had multiple catches on the perimeter where she’s had an open shot and has either passed it off or driven into the lane (often with unfavorable results). Something is going on.

First of all Connecticut is the best defensive team in the league. I only watched the first half but I didn't see her passing up any open 3's. She gets a lot of 3's in transition and there was practically zero transition shots yesterday. The Sun are just a really bad matchup for the Fever. Lots of bigs that can hit the boards and lots of length on the defensive end. I'd like to see us push the pace even more and get out in transition even after made baskets. Otherwise they're just playing into their strength.

It seems like the Fever, right now, need to average at least 22 pts/quarter (88 pts total) to have a chance at winning games. The problem is that the Fever have too many quarters where they are well below that average. In their 93-69 loss yesterday, their scoring by quarter: 20, 18, 19, 12.

On May 31, the Fever were 1-8. They are 19-13 ever since. In those 13 losses, the Fever scored 68, 72, 87, 77, 69, 84, 93, 80, 88, 75, 74, 91, and 69.

In yesterday's 78-67 Las Vegas win over Seattle:

Megan Gustafson played 5 minutes, was 0-1 from the field and did not attempt a FT for 0 points and 1 defensive rebound.

Kate Martin did not play (coach's decision).

Patiently waiting for the Lexi Hull fit check tonight

Lexi never disappoints.

The WNBA commissioner, organizations, and players are sooooo dumb.
And jealous. The commissioner is not dumb, but she has been timid at times. Everyone associated with this league is afraid of stating the obvious, or maybe their envy prohibits it. Whatever. Caitlin is too polite and respectful to say it.
