I took a way way worse hit to my eye when I played (guys finger went all the way to the back of the eye socket) and I suffered no long term damage. I don’t think it was nearly as bad as people are making it out to be, but I do think the long fingernails need to go.
I had to go to the ER to stop the bleeding after playing a pickup game at the fieldhouse where a dude sliced my eyelid open from horribly swiping at the ball and instead getting my face when I was playing point guard. That is a dude with normal dude fingernails that probably just needed a trim, and a fight damn near started because of it. It doesn't sound like Carrington had obnoxiously long fingernails, but those things sure as heck look dangerous to me. And I still say, how does one go from an open hand like that to the bent finger eye stabbing position without doing it intentionally? Moe Howard would be proud.

Caitlin is going to have to learn to play one handed so that her other hand is free to do this.

Aside from missing layups, the second most common WNBA faux pas is mistaking someone's head for a basketball.

Don't agree that it wasn't nearly as bad as people are making it.. at all. It's almost like you are condoning it. I agree the nails need to go
Agree. Might not appear to be bad to some, but I'm dealing with age related eye problems right now myself. It was discovered that I have a partially detached retina. I had no idea. The nails can be viewed as weapons. Could have been a lot worse. Don't know if a full eye exam was done following that poke, but we'll see...

Edit FWIW: Just got back from the Retina Specialist and he repaired a retinal tear with a laser, (I thought it was detached), and even though he numbed the eyeball, I could feel the jolt of pain at times clear to the back of my head LOL.

Just a few millimeters off target. Could have lost sight in that eye. End of career. All done on purposed and later giggled about with a teammate.

If Carrington had succeeded, Caitlin probably is blind in one eye. But not a peep from anyone.

In terms of intent and potential to maim and end a career, it's the worst on-court assault I've ever seen.

What's your opinion?
I watched Rambis clothesline a dude near full speed.

Condoning what? If she did it accidentally (which I think she did) then there’s nothing to condone. If she did it intentionally, then I certainly wouldn’t condone it. If Kate Martin had scraped Caitlin’s eye trying to block a pass, would a.) people think it was on purpose, and b.) think she should be suspended?

Wrestlers get their nails checked, no way you should be allowed to play bb with talons. FFS

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool....

I have this feeling in my stomach that tonight will be a very ugly game. Carrington will be out for blood and I just hope Caitlin will be alright. This is the kind of team that would have no remorse in hurting her.

Have you been to an eye doctor lately? I really hope you don't drive. Before the other view was showed it appeared to be an accident...it wasn't an accident

She should have been suspended for tonights game no question about it.

That would put an end to this bush league bullshit

CC should distribute first tonight. Get KM and AB going. Next priority is to drive. Get to the rim. Shoot only if it’s in the regular flow. Don’t try to redeem herself for poor shooting by trying to force things.
