***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

Angry Womens Basketball GIF by NCAA March Madness

This just seemed appropriate 😉

Very smart move by Caitlin to stay out of Unrivaled! Now she can keep dialing in with the lifting and with the finer parts of her game, all while getting enough rest and still having time to enjoy life after a really long season.
I went back and forth. On balance, I was hoping she would play for purposes of recruiting free agents, and for purposes of my entertainment. But she made the best decision for herself for the reasons you stated.

Not surprised. Caitlin was a former stud Freshman forward. She was at the U of I Soccer Complex a lot cheering on the Hawks. The current Hawkeye women's soccer team is loaded with future NWSL talent as well. That would be pretty sweet seeing her welcome a new Hawkeye signing.

Looks the the cost of the club is $100M. I wonder what kind of stake she has in the entity, either through direct investment, or sweat equity promoting it through her unbelievable personal brand...

At this point in her career, a $5 million cash investment is probably on the top end of what she could do.
However, signing her name to this for the publicity and weight it carries in the application process is probably worth 5-10x that.

Having her name attached to it as a brand ambassador could very well be the thing that allows them to get a bid over other large markets. How crazy is that?

I agree. And Cleveland, the other bidder, must be ruing that Cincinnati is 200 miles closer to Indianapolis, which is probably a big reason why Clark put her support there.
The other bidders include Denver, Philadelphia, and Nashville. If cincy gets a bid in front of all of those cities and Cleveland, I think it would have to be because of you know who.

CC will definitely help, but even without her Cincinnati would probably be the favorite. They have a state of the art downtown stadium ready to go and are at the convergence of multiple media markets.

I don’t doubt you. Everything I know about this league and cincy’s bid fits in a thimble. All I know is that Boston got the other new team and Denver and Philly are way bigger markets.

I'm not so excited about soccer, but it's pretty cool Caitlin is in the position to tell Geno and his league to kiss off ... I think I'll just get me a share of my own league.

What follows is a good story from CBS Sports on the 6 players each WNBA team might protect from Golden State.

Some excerpts:

In order to fill out the Valkyries' roster, the league will hold an expansion draft on Dec. 6. For a full explanation of the process, go here.

The short of it is this: the Valkyries can pick up to 12 players, but no more than one from each of the other 12 teams. The current teams, meanwhile, can protect six players who will be ineligible for selection. That includes those on the current roster, as well as those whose draft rights they hold.

The current teams must have their lists turned in to the league by Monday, which will give the Valkyries time to make decisions and discuss potential trades.

Unfortunately, those lists will not be made public, but we can still predict what each team might do.

Ahead of Monday's deadline, here's a look at the six players that each team might protect:

Indiana Fever
Aliyah Boston
Caitlin Clark
Temi Fagbenle
Lexie Hull
Kelsey Mitchell
NaLyssa Smith

There shouldn't be too much deliberation in Indianapolis. The 5 starters from last season are all locks: Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, Lexie Hull, NaLyssa Smith and Aliyah Boston. There's no guarantee all of those players are in Fever uniforms next season. Mitchell is an unrestricted free agent and
Smith is a candidate to be traded after posting what certainly seemed to be a farewell message. However, the Fever have to protect the assets.

The final spot should belong to Temi Fagbenle, who established herself as a key rotation player, and even started the team's final playoff game, due to how well she connected with Clark.
While Damiris Dantas could make a case with her ability to space the floor, Fagbenle was a much more important part of the team.

Just watched that Iowa -UConn game again the other night. Without the two bad turnovers in the last minute Iowa wins that game with zero drama. Kate Martin punched her ticket to the WNBA draft in that game--nails.

Also of note: Affolter was playing at a very high level, a gear she hasn't even used since her surgery.

Iowa had a very good team, played with the best toe to toe. Left me wondering how far the current team still has to go/grow to get on that level.

I think I'd rather keep Dontas and look for someone a little more reliable to replace Fagbenle in the rotation.

Either way, I don't want Smith back. She doesn't seem like a person who will accept her role. Her game drives me nuts

After the way she played in the games against her girlfriend’s team this season, you can’t trust Smith as a teammate. I think she’s only protected because she’s trade bait.wont get much for her, but on a rookie contract you can’t trust Smith get something. The unprotected players don’t have any trade value.
