Hard pass on the alignment, but I like the expansion efforts. However, if baseball wants to get some things right they need to figure out what's going on with the A's, and realign out of Florida. Baseball in Florida has failed. Nashville and Charlotte would probably support teams, but so would Portland. They have a nice stadium proposal. Take the Rays and Marlins out of Florida and put one of them in Portland and one in San Antonio.

I am conservative by nature. I'm going to pencil Cody Bellinger in for 40 homers this year. If a few things snap into place and he stays healthy he might hit 50.

I’d look at Montreal again, too. Good baseball history there and just don’t give them a cheap, asshat owner this time.

PCA will have every chance to shine this Spring. Clearly he will not break with the big league team, but I can see him at AA, with a shot at Des Moines if he performs well. Nothing wrong with a full season at AA, though.
Also, once you’re in AA, you’re within range of a call-up. I wouldn’t expect to see PCA in Chicago this year, but if there are a lot of injuries and he’s tearing it up, anything is possible.

Who knows which baseballs we’ll get this year.

Speaking of cheap owners, MLB also needs to find a way to force the Reds, Pirates... and every other team with owners sucking on purpose, to sell, or to put in penalties for sucking.

Agreed. It’s a little tricky since MLB doesn’t consolidate media rights (this is what makes other salary caps work), but there needs to be some level of attempt to compete.

I prefer the Reds and Pirates to suck. Two teams we don't have to worry about.

When/if they expand, Montreal tops my list. Lots of interesting choices, tough to pick from Vegas, Portland, Nashville, Charlotte, can live with any of those.

Absolutely right about the Rays, they should be out of Tampa and I really hope they could find a way to keep the A’s in Oakland.

There are several solid relievers still on the market. Supposedly a deal a week or two screwed up the market, and teams are holding back. I do think we are well positioned to add a veteran arm before ST. I assume there will be movement this weekend as guys decide they need a landing spot.

I feel like finding effective relievers is a strong point of this front office.

Solid signing. Likely means Merryweather will be DFA'd, Assad or Estrada will start the season at AAA Iowa, and if the Cubs want a second lefty in the bullpen to start the season, it will likely come from their NRI list (Borucki, Kay, Elias, Stout).

I’ll be surprised if Merryweather is DFA. There are some other options, but I think (and check me on this, I’m not 100% sure) once pitchers & catchers report, teams can start using the 60-day DL again, so guys like Roberts and Heuer could get bumped off the 40-man.

I don’t know that roster rule, either. I didn’t think they could start using the 60-day DL until opening day roster was set. Being able to use it next week would make things less complicated.

I gotta go with Alou. Are you sure you didn’t shade with some recency bias and a little heart felt 2016 emotion? I always felt like Fowler’s defense was overrated, too.
Loved the Kingman strikeout comps to today’s players.
I don’t think it’s recency bias so much as I think I’m still bitter over his tantrum in LF in game 6 and then fighting with the announcers in 2004. I try to tell myself I’m over it, but I don’t think I am.
