*****Official Cubs 2024 Thread 🪦*****

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting Ballesteros winds up at 3B, just that he has a non traditional body type, shall we say. But, he's a hitter, find a spot for him if he can produce. Parades isn't producing, and he's an error machine.
Shaw has mostly played SS, so that confuses me a little. We have 5 more years of Swanson, and quite a few more SS options. 3B is the most glaring hole in the line up, that begs to be filled by a younger, cost controlled player. Or, 2B, if the team moves Hoerner in order to get more production from that spot. And, Busch could easily play 2B. He's rounding into a good 1B, but there is that option if you are so inclined to add thump at 1B.
I probably over-read your Moises comment, so all good there. Agree with the rest. Busch was a SS, but even before the draft, always projected more on the 2B or potentially 3B path. I don’t want a team full of DHs butchering all over the field, but to some extent, you get the bats and figure the rest out. Busch could absolutely be a solid 2B.

Cubs have options. Jed just has to have the stones to make some bold moves. Tweaking in the margins won’t be enough this offseason.

I think they get Pete Alonso
Jed's tenure as the boss doesn't give me confidence he'll get into a bidding war. Alonso isn't much with the glove, but at age 30 the power will stick around for awhile. The Cubs are the team "sources", will report are in a bidding war in order boost his price.

I saw on BCB that Paredes has 9 errors since he joined the Cubs? I hope nobody in the Cubs organization is feeling he is owed a roster spot next season. Besides the errors, he's looking kind of chunky. I am all about Ballesteros getting a shot to come whack away at the ball, but Paredes really isn't bringing much to the team, and in no way should he stand in a young player's path.
I think there was long-term value in finding out on Morel at 3B. Paredes has been a disaster. I don’t think he’s this bad at all, but agree that he doesn’t have to be locked into next year. He’s certainly a trade candidate this offseason. Not sure he’s blocking Moises playing 3B, but agree to the larger point. Could apply to Triantos or Shaw, just as easily.
I'd be SHOCKED if Paredes is on the team next season. He has been a disaster and there will no longer be a need for a warm body to play 3B, especially one who isn't very good at it and can't hit, either.

I would like to see Busch get some work in the offseason back at 3B. I figure that assuming Bellinger comes back he would be the everyday 1B. Keep Suzuki at DH and let Davis/Canario/Caissie fight it out to see who our next RF is. Any injuries or poor performance at 2B/SS/3B and we have Shaw and Triantos ready for their shots (maybe even C. Smith). If Wisdom or Bethancourt aren't cutting it as backup 1B/C, then Ballesteros will be ready.

Swanson isn't going anywhere, so SS isn't really an option. Give Shaw the shot at 3B and have Triantos get ready for 2B.

I’d trade Happ or Hoerner, sign Alonso to DH.

I seem to be in the minority, but I think Alonso’s bat is going to age really poorly. He’s going to get a big deal and I think whoever wins that prize will regret it in fairly short order.

Don't even get me started on Matt Chapman... If we could have had him on a Giants type deal, he would have solved a lot of problems this season.
Explain to me again why we traded Christopher Morel for this bum. Morel took heat for not being a good fielding 3B but he was improving.

IMO we lost this trade, especially if he's not on the roster next season as you suggest.

Last 24 hours, 5 hits, 0 runs, Hawks shit the bed.

Not optimal.
I was walking back to our parking spot and a guy was walking with his kid and he said, "Well, we get to watch the Bears lose tomorrow, too".
I looked over and said, "That's the Hawkeye, Cubs, Bears spirit".

Nailed it.

Noted in BCB, today was the 11th shutout at Wrigley this season for the Cubs, and the 15th overall. Since 1901 they’ve averaged under 5 shutouts per season at home.
The offense has been positively bi-polar this season.

I found these numbers interesting.

3 games, 8 total hits, 2 runs.

I’m tired of watching this team trying to hit. I get who was on the mound today but something is fundamentally wrong with this team’s hitting philosophy.

Especially with the DBacks slumping a bit, I still think the target is 88-89 wins to get in. That’s a 16-3 or 15-4 finish. Need to go on a tear ASAP. The end isn’t here yet, but I can see it from where I stand.
I'd like to think there's still a chance, but yeah, they need to catch fire immediately with the Dodgers next 3. The Yankees I kind of expected, but dropping 2 out of 3 at home to the Pirates hurt. Agree on the target number of wins, trouble is how to get there. Of the 19 games left, 6 of those are against the Dodgers and the Phillies, there's probably your 3-4 losses there. The rest of it (Rockies, A's, Nats, Reds) all sounds doable, but the Cubs still have had trouble getting 3-game sweeps against lousy teams all season.

Diamondbacks and Mets both got pretty tough schedules the rest of the season too. I guess we find ourselves rooting for the Brewers as the Dbacks face them 7 times and the Mets 3.

It is possible that they don’t have to get to 88/89 if 2 of the 3 teams really fall back, but that’s hard to count on at this point. 88 or 89 would give them a really good shot and even starting that kind of a tear could put a lot of pressure on the Mets and DBacks.

Went to games Saturday and Sunday. Lots of Yankee fans there. Fun environment. Not sure a visiting player will get a standing O on 3 consecutive days like Rizzo did. Aramis Ramirez and Kerry Wood into Cubs HOF on Sunday. Wish there was more action, but I will take the weekend split. :)

3 games and no dingers!

Let's be honest about yesterday's win, if the Yankees weren't playing Judge in CF the ball by Paredes is caught, and the Cubs lose 1-0.
But, a win is a win.

It looks like Cam Smith it getting a bump to AA. Might as well, he'll get a few more games as the A ball teams are done for the year, and TN is in the playoffs.

These dang Cubs. Just when I try giving up on them they keep pulling me back. I'm sure they're going to win just enough to keep me invested but ultimately fall short. Marquee's sponsors must be thrilled.
