*****Official HORT Golf General Discussion Thread*****

THIS spring/summer he'll be at the 5'-4" plus maybe an inch or so, but then summer 2026 he should be around the 5'-8" I would imagine.

So ultimately asking about this summer, it is worth trying to get him womens standard length or would him playing standard length mens shafts this summer at 5'-4" impede him too much or not? Standard womens vs mens is what 1" to 1.5" difference?

I would think worst case this summer, just choke down a touch if needed and just get the standard mens shafts right?

As far as price, not looking to spend a whole lot, simply because A) still not sure how much we will be able to play and B) still not sure if golf is going to be his cup of tea

Something in the middle between brain new high end set VS. old mix matched garage sale sets
General rule of thumb is 1 inch in difference between men's and women's length. That is also dependent on the head style. In men's clubs take TaylorMade. The P790 standard length 5 iron is 38 inches and the QI is 38.5. Club manufactures make game cast game improvement irons usually 1/2 inch longer. Mizuno is a 1/4 longer. It varies from model to model.

Going men's standard for the short term is too long, too heavy with grips that are too big. The ideal set I have is a Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 ladies set. They are 1 inch short and have a 52 gram graphite shaft with a ladies size grip. The good thing about them is they don't look like a ladies club. Tour Edge is out of Chicago and has a limited lifetime warranty on their clubs. This set I 5-PW, SW for $428 down from $559.

I also have a Tour Edge C522 iron 4-PW men's reg flex steel for $250. If you need a complete set with a bag I do have one offering from Head for $280 and it isn't pink, purple etc.

Was able to play legacy last Wednesday. Drove the ball out of my mind. Which was good, because I'm back to the pull hook on my irons. Had the first carpal tunnel surgery the next day, the other will get done next week so I'm out until March.

I would probably take this Detry guy seriously if his glove didn’t look like a surgical glove

This weekend there is a “hickory tournament” Sat and Sun at Grandview in Sun City..these are organized by an old Des Moines native who has ramrodded these things the past 15 years or so across the nation..full field for this one…temps are suppose to start moderating here this weekend…

The former superintendent at Hyperion has been really involved in these; it’s fun giving it a try with those old clubs!

Well, this guy was an old Hyperion member and I think he was associated (and then bought out) the old Hyperion superintendent..it’s gonna get pretty foggy Saturday night as we (about 8 of us) rehash old times and old days…we bowled together back in those stays, too!

Highland national in st Paul has the famed Snoopy bunker.

I played the 9 holer across the street. A true public course. Neighborhood kids walking up, no set tee times. Just pay their $5 and play 9 holes with friends. Wish we had that in Sioux City when I was young. But it was an anniversary trip and my wife is just getting into golf so she got nervous with all the kids around. Me? I calmly finished my beer, adjusted my crotch, and proceeded to drill a drive straight into the collection pond for the rain runoff.

You had that. You just described Floyd GC in Morningside and Sun Valley on the Westside. South Ridge in South Sioux City too.

Played The Meadows last July and would highly recommend it. Fun course and decent restaurant.
