Very fortunate that Seegers was able to not have that ball hit him.
There's that wide strikezone again.
You watching from Mars? LolMy god, this ump's strike zone blows
Fullard delivers nonetheless on an 0-2 count and Iowa leads by 1 going into the bottom of the 9th
Fine, I'll cut my evening short!Christophersen dealing! Survive and advance Hawkeyes! See ya at 9am tomorrow.
BAUDon't worry guys, this is Iowa baseball......we got this!!!!![]()
Win over Purdue? Check.Play it out if other games go chalk and if Iowa can keep winning.
Tomorrow:
Nedved against Purdue.
Saturday:
Langenberg against PSU (elimination game)
Schultz against Maryland
Sunday:
Brecht/Baumann against Maryland
Brecht/Baumann against Rutgers
Trying to break out of my "this f'ing sucks" mood. New goals:
Ride Nedved to a win tomorrow and advance to weekend. Eminently doable.
Ride Langenberg to a win in first game on Saturday. Eminently doable.
That puts Iowa in the B1G's "final four."
Hope that either (a) Maryland gets upset and Iowa faces Michigan, Illinois or Indiana in the late Saturday game or (b) if that doesn't happen, Iowa gets to face Maryland for potential signature win. Likely that it would be a combo of Schultz/Brecht/Baumann.
Somehow survive Saturday night's game. Advance to Sunday.
Hope that the other bracket doesn't result in a necessary Sunday early game.
That puts Iowa in the B1G's "final three" and puts Iowa's B1G tournament record at 3-1.
Then you are playing with house money on Sunday.
I'm not claiming that would get Iowa in as an at-large but . . . I'd watch the selection show on Monday with fingers crossed.
I actually like Iowa's chances to win tomorrow and the first game on Saturday. (After today's game, I understand that it is illogical).
They need to hit "erase" and "re-set."
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
Hell no.
It's not over in Omaha either.
Yeah big win to at least keep hope alive. Things could all end at any point now, but Iowa still does have depth of arms that make it not totally unrealistic to win 2-3 games in a row here. Still have Langenberg, Schulz, Bauman, plus Brecht and some others. As you get into Saturday much of it comes down to how many viable arms teams have left.Win over Purdue? Check.
Now bring on Rutgers or PSU.
Good job, Hawks! Get back to the hotel, relax and rest up.
I see that at 2:16 am CT the #5 Michigan/#4 Illinois game ended (with #5 Michigan winning 7-5).
One game at a time, of course. At the same time, Iowa would have to win their next 4 games to win the B1G Championship.
The 4 games:
(1) game 9, Saturday, 9 am (vs Rutgers or Penn State)
(2) game 11, Sat evening (facing the undefeated team from the lower bracket)
(3) game 13, Sunday morning (facing the team from the lower bracket again)
(4) game 14, Sunday afternoon, playing the other remaining team for the B1G Championship
The Bracket:

This is the million dollar question. If PSU loses, do you consider holding back Langenberg and starting Schultz?
It would be a risky move but a calculated risk.
It doesI don't believe the updated bracket has crossovers. Iowa will play Rutgers Saturday night if they beat PSU Saturday morning (assume Rutgers beats PSU)

Good question. Don't really want PSU sniffing winning the conference tournament. But yes, winning over Rutgers would do more for Iowa's RPI than beating PSU. Just happy the Hawks get to have another game. Iowa's pitching depth should help them out here. What an amazing job by Christopherson coming in and giving the Hawks 3 innings. They still have plenty of arms in the bullpen.
Now my question is who do we want to face tomorrow morning? If you think Iowa can win it all I'd say PSU as their pitching will be hammered by the time tomorrow rolls around. If you think Iowa can only hope to win enough to get into the regionals then beating Rutgers could get Iowa there. Beating Purdue helped the RPI today, at least Purdue had a decent record but facing and beating PSU does nothing for Iowa.
I would like PSU I think. You win and you still gain RPI points. Rutgers is a tough task. So is Maryland, but anything can happen once you get deep into these bullpens.Good question. Don’t think so. If they win tomorrow morning they would play someone like Maryland tomorrow night.I don't believe the updated bracket has crossovers. Iowa will play Rutgers Saturday night if they beat PSU Saturday morning (assume Rutgers beats PSU)

Need to win both don't we? If so, I don't care as long as all have a short leashIf PSU loses, do you consider holding back Langenberg and starting Schultz?

And he’s pitching his ass off. 4IP, 0 runs.Penn State starting a guy who's made one start on the year and thrown just over 16 innings prior to today.
Just going to say another PSU pitcher with a career outing. PSU now goes with Henline who was a Friday starter too.And he’s pitching his ass off. 4IP, 0 runs.
