I think we have to take them both tomorrow. If we beat Maryland on the back end tomorrow we’re certainly in, regardless of what happens Sunday. Doing the same with Michigan (and losing to them on Sunday morning) would be a bit dicier. But beating Penn St and Purdue won’t make up enough of the lost ground for losing the opener.
Well, so much for Illinois' pre-tournament hopes for making the NCAA Tournament.
They lose to #5 seed Michigan last night.
They lose badly to #8 seed Indiana tonight.

Indiana pitching is a night and day difference from the Iowa series.
Should be fun then watching this kid "force" us to scatter 5 hits and 1 run and a million players LOB against him because it wouldn't be BAU Iowa, otherwise...........
It would be fun to have Iowa eventually play in one of these 9 pm games. Get a decent crowd there and get rowdy.
Big Ten is a 3 bid conference…..right? If Iowa beats Penn State tomorrow morning I think we will glued to the announcements on Monday no matter what happens tomorrow night.
This is correct, but all projections say two bids. In my opinion a win over Penn State SHOULD be enough, but likely wouldn’t be.
I have always thought the B1G should get at least 3 bids. Now, I think 3 (obviously) is the ceiling.
If we lose tomorrow morning, I think we're in big trouble. If we lose to Maryland tomorrow night, who knows what our fate will be. The damn RPI seems to play too much of a factor.
It would be a shame, imo, if the B1G only gets 2 teams in.
So, if you were to bet, you would say Iowa needs to be playing on Sunday (in the semifinals) to make the NCAA Tournament?
Given the way the power conferences have played out, I don’t think B1G gets three unless (a) Iowa ends up facing and beating Maryland once; (b) Iowa makes it to Sunday or (c) a team other than Rutgers or Maryland wins championship.
Let's just make sure we're playing Sunday and I can watch the game stress free-ish

Iowa/PSU might be playing for the right to play Michigan not Maryland.

I get what you are saying; Michigan is the weaker team & they'd be easier to beat probably.
However, RPI wise, I am guessing it's best to beat Penn State and then play Maryland tomorrow night, beat them, and then advance to Sunday where you'd play Maryland again.

Maryland and Rutgers have the best overall pitching left in the tournament. If Iowa can get past PSU in the morning then I think they are more likely to beat Michigan twice. I give them almost no chance of beating Maryland twice. Gotta get past PSU though.
Get by PSU and beat Maryland just once. That’s enough to get Iowa in.

we did take 2 of 3 vs Michigan earlier this season but dang, do we have enough offense now to keep up with Michigan? where did Iowa's bats from last weekend go?

(2) game 11, Sat evening (facing undefeated Michigan from the lower bracket)
(3) game 13, Sunday morning (facing, again, a now one loss Michigan team from the lower bracket)
(4) game 14, Sunday afternoon, playing Rutgers, Maryland, or Indiana (from the upper bracket) for the B1G Championship

All of the last four in and first four to eight out have less than stellar RPI numbers. That’s why they’re where they are.
