*****Official IOWA at the B1G Tournament Games Thread*****

I urge you guys not to worry. My three year old is aggressive at the plate. He also appears to be a nasty lefty. We got this in 16 years.

I thought the Iowa batters had a lot of good takes. The umpire just happened to decide they were strikes.

Hard to get good swings when that happens.

Back is against the wall now. They will play again tomorrow morning at 9 am.

If Iowa could some how win that game there is a chance they could face this same PSU team again tomorrow night. They have burned their 2 best pitchers.
Play it out if other games go chalk and if Iowa can keep winning.
Tomorrow:
Nedved against Purdue.
Saturday:
Langenberg against PSU (elimination game)
Schultz against Maryland
Sunday:
Brecht/Baumann against Maryland
Brecht/Baumann against Rutgers

Trying to break out of my "this f'ing sucks" mood. New goals:

Ride Nedved to a win tomorrow and advance to weekend. Eminently doable.
Ride Langenberg to a win in first game on Saturday. Eminently doable.

That puts Iowa in the B1G's "final four."

Hope that either (a) Maryland gets upset and Iowa faces Michigan, Illinois or Indiana in the late Saturday game or (b) if that doesn't happen, Iowa gets to face Maryland for potential signature win. Likely that it would be a combo of Schultz/Brecht/Baumann.

Somehow survive Saturday night's game. Advance to Sunday.

Hope that the other bracket doesn't result in a necessary Sunday early game.

That puts Iowa in the B1G's "final three" and puts Iowa's B1G tournament record at 3-1.

Then you are playing with house money on Sunday.

I'm not claiming that would get Iowa in as an at-large but . . . I'd watch the selection show on Monday with fingers crossed.

I actually like Iowa's chances to win tomorrow and the first game on Saturday. (After today's game, I understand that it is illogical).

They need to hit "erase" and "re-set."

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
Hell no.
It's not over in Omaha either.

Great write up, analysis and positive thoughts! It just seems we are stuck in this series/movie year after year (I start tracking Iowa baseball in April, get excited, watch RPI, win a few series we should, lose a few we shouldn't, and then Iowa comes to my backyard where I can finally watch them and they play terrible.) Well, as mentioned at least we didn't lose a series to NW or MSU as in years past that made winning the conf. tournament the only way to punch a regional ticket!

At this point, win tomorrow. We'll figure out what to do the game after.

Illini fans have to be very happy.

I know it's not gonna happen....And it sucks when you lose your first game and immediately enter the losers bracket....

With that being said, for Iowa to win the Tournament (sigh, eye rolls), I believe they'd have to win 5 games in a row over the next 3 days. Barf.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is our remaining schedule! ;)

(1) game 5, Fri, 9 am

(2) game 9, Sat 9 am

(3) game 11, Sat evening (facing the undefeated team from the lower bracket)

(4) game 13, Sunday morning (facing the team from the lower bracket again)

(5) game 14, Sunday, playing the other remaining team for the B1G Championship

Big Ten title game is winner take all regardless of record.

We will see how they snap back but losing game 1 with your ace.....I don't see much hope of winning the entire thing. I would not be shocked to see us out tomorrow. Hope not....but certainly not shocked.

Correct

I'm looking at it now as win one and we'll figure it out.

agree. at the same time, its hard as a fan to not look ahead at tomorrow, the weekend as a whole, and what Iowa had to do. Hopefully we win a couple games and are still playing Sat evening against (most likely) undefeated (in the tournament) Maryland. We now desperately need quality wins or we are toast; winning a couple games and then beating Maryland (#3 RPI) on Sat night would accomplish that objective.

Definitely not Duane Banks Field. It's a Big O ball park

Totally agree, this bites teams that play Creighton here as well as Big Ten Tourney and CWS.

Especially if you hit to Center, it's 408 feet to dead center and 375 to both power alleys (335 to LF and RF). This topic is fairly routine fodder for announcers and I remember it well when Iowa has played here in the past.

For reference, Duane Banks is 395 (more than I thought!) and 373 to the power alleys IIRC. 329 to LF and RF.

2 hits is not gonna get the job done.

the game story is linked in the tweet

We’ll see how tomorrow plays out, but if Iowa has little to no output offensively then you have to wonder what their role told or the approach. It can’t be mental because Sher and Davitt are the only two who really played the last time the tournament was here. Frazier was also on the roster.

Purdue staff has thrown about 140 pitches across 5 players, might be interesting development for tomorrow a.m. should we get past their starter early.

PSU has absolutely no depth at pitching. They have two very solid pitchers (5th and 6th for ERA in conference play) - and they threw those guys today. I believe PSU is toast as they sold out to win this game. So if we can get by Purdue - then things look very favorable in the rematch against PSU. Call me crazy - but if Iowa gets by Purdue they might consider saving who they believe is their better starter for the second game on Saturday to try to get to Sunday. I know, I know, it's one game at a time. But I'd like to see Iowa get to Sunday even if the odds of winning the whole thing are very small.

Any chance Mazur can start again on Sunday? Or is two days rest not enough?

If and a big IF Iowa beats Purdue. If the opponent is Penn State maybe you do start Schultz instead of Langenberg. Iowa's offense needs to something.

baseball is a crazy sport.

Indiana takes the lead over Maryland in the 10th

Maryland ties it in the bottom of the 10th

Now in the 11th inning, tied at 5
