***Official Iowa vs UMKC game thread***

OK, the Kangaroos have two guards scoring a lot of points. Smaller guys, like to shoot threes. Minnesota beat them pretty soundly so we should take them out alright ourselves. Hoping to get a big lead and let Fleming and Williams see the court.

Choppy as hell here also. Almost unwatchable. This is crazy that I can hardly watch this game. Well, now I'm being moved to the va tech game

also very blurry at times. not the best production. makes it hard to watch. from what i see, Iowa is only Big 10 team relegated to espn3. tired of having to watching games on internet

Anybody figure out why the WatchESPn app on the Xbox wasn't working? Literally a repeating slide show and really choppy. I couldn't watch it anymore

Uthoff with four blocks the first half. Five guys with seven or more points.

Agree, Uhl playing well. Need Ute to become more aggressive and Ells shot to come around.

They boys look a little tired today.

Really hope IA comes out quick, builds up a nice lead, and let the 5 starters rest a lot - and give the second 5 (including Williams) some much needed experience.

I have to say, the first half felt sloppily than it was. I felt like we had quite a few missed opportunities and still lead by 14. However, looking at the box score, only 4 turnovers, out rebounding them, only 5 fouls committed, average shooting percentage.

I think I have a case of high expectations! Seems like I finally expect open 3s to go in, unlike in past years.

We do need to work on clearing the glass though. If Uhl, Wagner & Baer can provide enough minutes, I think it would be beneficial to even out minutes at the 4 and 5 except for Uthoff to get max effort on first securing defensive rebounds, THEN sprinting out on the break. It feels like sometimes we are releasing an extra guy on the break before ending the defensive possession. Did we make a change this season on how many release?

Glad Uhl's playing well today. It was looking like he hit a sophomore slump.

It would be nice to get Uhl back at the 3 / stretch 4 next season assuming Wagner, Cook, Kriener, Pemsl can adequately fill the power 4 & 5 spots.

It seems a little odd that he doesn't see the court until the Hawks are up 25+. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

No, I don't think you are. I think he must have a lot of work to do yet. Pretty worried about PG position next season unless Williams makes some big strides or JoBo exceeds expectations.

That being said, I say this based on very limited observation of both so could be off base.

Why no Williams?
I think Fran was trying to get that 2nd unit some playing time together. It looks like Clemmons, Ellingson, Uhl, Wagner, and Baer will be the 2nd unit with Jones being out. I think Fran is settling into a rotation. Looks like Fleming and Williams will be the odd men out barring foul trouble.

Good game. Good comments on the thread. Only thing I'd say is we've gotta stay patient with these freshmen. There are a lot of them and they are all trying to learn at the same time.

News on Woody…? I didn't get a chance to watch the game. Stat line was 4 points, 6 boards I think. Was his minutes down or was he in most of the game? I saw he only had one PF.

I think guys like Fleming/Williams not getting as much time is simply a result of Fran trying to increase cohesiveness within the first and second team, and getting all of those guys comfortable with each other.

I mean, Fleming could have gone in way earlier than he did, but Fran opted to leave older guys in

I'm encouraged that the backups have outplayed the starters in multiple games (with the starters not necessarily playing poorly in said games). Different guys stepping up makes me really excited about the future. We've seen huge games from Uhl, Ellingson, Baer, and Wagner (played nicely today). All of these guys are sophomores or younger. Very nice.

He wasn't that aggressive. Did a great job facilitating today though

Woody played great. They played a lot of zone, so Woody played the high post and made good decision after good decision.

I'm actually very pleased with this game; I thought Kansas City really battled, yet we responded to every one of their runs.
