NIU is going to try and do the same thing everyone else does: stack the line and dare to pass over them. we oblige and then we break at least 3 runs over 30 yards, 1 long rushing td for sargent.17-14 Hawks but gain less than 100 yards rushing.
If NIU scores more than 17 that does not bode well for our defense going forward. They have a decent line, but their QB, RBs, and WRs are just okay. Unless they have made massive strides between last year and this one, they are going to struggle on offense (unless our LBs struggle more than we expect...in which case, buckle up).
Offensively, I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised. NIU has a respectable defense, but we can attack them. Iowa has a full complement of weapons offensively like we haven't had in a long, long time. And, year two of BF is going to look a lot smoother and more consistent than year one. Pass Pro is obviously a concern, but we can do things to cover that to a large extent.
If we are where I think we are, we win this one 40-13 or so.
You should be more direct on how you really feel about thisLess than 2 weeks ago you started a thread here on HR entitled "IOWA WILL LOSE TO NORTHERN ILLINOIS".
You're an idiot.
21/10 HawksWell it's that time of year again. It is time for Iowa Football.
NIU will not be easy. They have a solid DL and Iowa's two starting tackles are suspended.
Iowa's game plan for this game and all season needs to be Stanley, Fant, and Hockenson. I don't think Iowa runs the ball well. I say 113 yards for the game. Stanley to the tight ends will be the difference unless we have a lot of turnovers.
Iowa - 28
Northern Illinois - 24
HAWKEYES 45
NIU 3
I think it will be the NIU quarterback running for his life from Eppy, Nelson and Hesse. Int's will come from this.
Reminds me of fans all worried about Wyoming. The Cowboys had a first-round NFL pick at QB. The Huskies have a 6-1, 225 pound DE pass rusher.
Iowa 37, NIU 20.
I was responding to a comment that appeared to demean the size of the NIU kid ...just pointing out size doesn't necessarily mean a lot when you have superior talent.WTF does Leroy Smith have to do with this kid. We have plenty of TE's who can chip him, and a DL they cannot handle.
38-3
HAWKEYES 45
NIU 3
What if they do? You get an overdraft? Bankruptcy?Iowa will not blow NIU out, take it to the bank. I can't believe people are predicting that.
I love that. Like their OL having a lager average weight makes them equal or better players? Be sure to turn the switch on your electric football game there buddy........Copied from the Husky football message board. Interesting take. I think what this guy fails to address is depth. Fresh bodies in the 2nd half is where Iowa should prevail in the trenches.
-Like many fans of P5 teams when facing a MAC school, there some Hawkeye fans proclaiming - "we will grind them down and wear them out" Well, here's a look at the lines of both teams for a comparison. I'm assuming they mean the wearing out will be done on the lines unless they were going to wear NIU down with their safeties and wide receivers.
O-lines:
Starters
NIU avg 6'4.00", 307lbs
Iwa avg 6'4.75", 299lbs
Reserves(less true freshman)
NIU avg 6'5.00", 302lbs
Iwa avg 6'3.50", 294lbs
D-lines:
Starters
NIU avg 6'1.50", 267lbs
Iwa avg 6'5.75", 275lbs
Reserves(less true freshman)
NIU avg 6'2.33", 264lbs
Iwa avg 6'2.33", 277lbs
Tight Endstarter + back up)
NIU avg 6'3.50", 254
Iwa avg 6'5.00", 245
RB(largest starter)
NIU 5'11", 227 lbs(Harbison)
Iwa 5'11", 221lbs (Young)
NIU's total weight starting O-line + starting D-line = 2578lbs
Iwa's total weight starting O-line + starting D-line = 2570lbs
I did the best I could for who the Iowa starters will be on both lines. Being so many suspensions and all. And there's no denying Iowa has a noticeable height advantage at D-End. Crazy tall there. If you can wear someone down with height I suppose they have a case. But I don't see any huge advantage in weight.
