***Official Northern Illinois @ Iowa Football Prediction Thread***

Iowa … 3 … 7 ...17 ... 7 = 34
NIU … 7... 7 … 3 … 7 = 24

Close game at Halftime. Big 3rdQ lifts Iowa. Hawkeye defense stops late 4thQ Huskie drives.

POG: Anthony Nelson (3 sacks, 1 TFL).
Stanley: 19-29-190-2-1. (TDs: ISM, Hockenson)
Rushing TDs: Toren Young X 2

Were we missing our two starting CBs vs Wyoming?

Also, do you remember former All-American Hawkeye DE Leroy Smith? (6'2, 220)
We were missing one starting CB (Rugumba was suspended, OJ started) and a largely unproven at the time Josh Jackson starting at the other spot.

Well it's that time of year again. It is time for Iowa Football.

NIU will not be easy. They have a solid DL and Iowa's two starting tackles are suspended.

Iowa's game plan for this game and all season needs to be Stanley, Fant, and Hockenson. I don't think Iowa runs the ball well. I say 113 yards for the game. Stanley to the tight ends will be the difference unless we have a lot of turnovers.

Iowa - 28
Northern Illinois - 24

I think you are hugely underestimating what Iowa has the capability to do; we have two future NFL TEs that run better routes than some WRs. We have three RBs that, for the most part, are unknowns, but I think are going to be really good. To say we don't 'run the ball well,' is a bit of a misnomer. Historically, we run the ball very well, actually. I'm pretty optimistic our WRs will be much better this year.

I think NIU will be a cake walk, even with our suspensions. Guarantee whatever we have for backups is better than what they have at starter.

Kirk will play basic football with the objective of getting his guys quality reps and the expectation that his OCs will expose just enough creativity to win. When we have a solid team, this approach sets up our guys for sustained (during the season) success, but when there are big talent gaps there's nowhere to hide. I'm koolaided enough to expect to end game-1 with a 27-17 type workmanlike win and for KF's notepad to be full of teaching notes.

You may be right, but hopefully wrong. This approach is how you lose to NDSU. Focusing on getting reps and field position rather than points has been KF's achilles heel. Brian needs to over-rule his father. I remember reading mods from several sites rooting for BF to become OC for that specific reason. If he can't alter Kirk's love of offensive predictability then Iowa will under-perform relative to talent.
