*****Official Ohio State at IOWA Games Thread (May 5-7)*****

Guy sitting next to me in the stands claims to have knowledge of why Anthony, Tallman and Christiansen aren’t suited up.

If what he shared is accurate, I wouldn’t expect to see any of these guys play again this year.

Nothing criminal but conduct that is not tolerated by NCAA.
Bau for Iowa having a helluva season gotta have some common sense boys!

Top of the 6th:

With Iowa leading 9-2, Morgan's day is done.

His line:
5 innings pitched
23 batters faced
93 pitches (49 strikes, 44 balls)

7 strike outs
6 walks
2 Wild pitches
(1 resulted in a run scored)
1 Hit Batter
3 Hits

2 earned runs (1 solo home run also given up)

Let me be clear … I know nothing and I’ve heard nothing about NCAA violations involving any player on baseball team.

I sure hope that it doesn’t involve gambling. Alabama’s head coach fired this week for gambling activity. And there was a rumor posted in the Football forum about a former Hawkeye athlete and “others” being investigated by the feds for gambling.

You sure? Jk

Wow.

So … as fate has it … Keaton Anthony’s Dad was sitting two rows behind me, overheard what was told to me and confronted the person who shared the information. I’ll just write that there was a vehement (and I mean vehement) denial of part of what what shared with me and implicit confirmation that the other part was accurate.

Hypothetically speaking, anyone know if college athletes are permitted to bet on pro sports or college sports that are separate from the sport in which they participate? The answer to that question might be important.

EDIT: https://www.ncaa.org/sports/2016/4/29/sports-wagering.aspx

Ummmm - not good.

EDIT 2:

Ooooof.

That’s too bad. Once again UI athletic department hurts the student by doing nothing but a cryptic “no comment” which allows people to gossip like this and throws the kid under the bus.

This isn’t meant to be snarky … serious question.

If the NCAA is conducting an investigation into whether certain members of the Iowa baseball team committed an infraction, are the Athletic Department’s “hands tied” at all? Can they issue a statement detailing what the situation is? Or are there privacy concerns at issue?

I certainly don’t believe the UI Ath Dept should be free from criticism but - just citing one other example from another program - ISU’s Ath Dept didn’t ever disclose why Caleb Grill was dismissed from the team … allowing wide speculation.

When a player like Keaton Anthony is not in the lineup, questions will be asked by the media. You have to say something.

I’m not a compliance specialist but I’ve tried to read as much as I could find this morning about potential penalties if certain things may be true. And I’m not just talking about individuals losing eligibility, I’m talking about trying to find whether Iowa’s baseball team is at risk for having to forfeit games if players were ineligible under the rules.

I really think that this is potentially a sticky wicket. I stress the word … potentially.

You and I have heard the same thing, from at least one of the same persons.

Going today?

I'm not going to try to answer your questions, but will include an article in the The Athletic about gambling and athletes. One thing for certain is that some, if not all, schools have hired "consultants" to keep an eye on things from the gambling perspective. For instance, the bet that was made on LSU (in Ohio) was flagged by the book as suspicious and sent to the Alabama AD which led to the investigation and firing of the coach. Also, some schools with sponsors in the sportsbook industry are ending those affiliations.

Athletic Story

The whole thing is frustrating. because you know every Iowa athlete IS TOLD OVER AND OVER AGAIN WHAT IS AND WHAT IS NOT AN NCAA VIOLATION and it appears KA ignored what he knew and broke an NCAA rule. Again, we are all speculating but we all have seen the rumors and there is at least one report stating that it involves gambling (on what teams, no one knows for sure except probably the UI).

It will be interesting to see what comes of the former Alabama baseball coach because things looked so shady there that the sportsbooks wouldn't let you bet on Alabama baseball games. What was the coach doing there to affect the games' outcomes, I wonder?

Hindsight is 20/20 but I guess we should have seen this coming with many states legalizing gambling.

And speaking of money and scandals, I predict there will eventually be a huge embezzlement scandal involving a school's collective. There's a a lot of money flowing into collectives across the country and someone's hand is going to get caught in the cookie jar.

Bolded- From what I have read he withheld his best starting pitcher, and then let people in Ohio know he was doing it. Sounds like 2 large bets were then made on LSU moneyline which were flagged by the book as suspicious at which point all gambling on Bama baseball was suspended.

The other takeaway from this situation is that the Alabama thing looks much more serious, and there hasn't been any speculation about Alabama vacating wins.

From what I heard Anthony’s father say … his son did NOT bet on baseball. And he was vehement and adamant about it.

Draw whatever conclusions you may from the specific nature of the comment.

I never suggested that he did. My reply to Fran is that the Bama coach appears to have affected the outcome of a game by sitting the starting pitcher.

It happens. Ty pitched great. My only criticism is we seem to not be very disciplined at the plate in early innings and chase first pitches and bad pitches. There were some potential runs left out there today I think directly related to this. Has been all season really.

I’m not the coach so they much have the green light to swing at first pitches and 3-0 pitches.

This said, I would have guess tOSU pitch by bullpen committee on Sunday would have had a much higher score. I steak tOSU pitched well enough and it was low scoring. An outlier for tOSU Sunday games.

Like I said it happens.

Just disappointing and I think Keaton is done for the year also. That’s my working assumption.

But the team can’t give up, so I’m. It giving up.

Anyone have any idea when Chase Moseley might be able to play again?

OSU is in 12th place just in front of last place NW @ 6-15 IN BT Play.
BT standings
1st Maryland 13-5
2nd Indiana 11-6
3rd Rutgers 11-7
4th Iowa 10-7
5th MSU 10-8
6th Nebraska 10-8
7th Michigan 10-8
8th Purdue 10-8

the next 2 week are going to be interesting.

Keaton has only himself to blame for letting him self for this.

but let this run itself out
STFU and GTFO. You are an idiot numptie who has NO clue what is going on.

Read what you wrote. It makes zero sense, and you are a moron. Don't clutter this board, keep to messing up the FB and BB boards.
